    I have been a long time fan having read the books as a kid. I started getting my daughter into the world (we have been playing the cooperative card game Fantasy Flight put out) and your videos have been fantastic to help me flush out what I didn't know (which is 90% of what you covered). Love leaving your videos on and growing in my lore knowledge. Thanks!

    I listen to your lore videos when I drive to and from work, and have done so for a few days. I really enjoy your Lore series! Can't wait for the next one! I feel like I owe you a very large beer, for all your troubles. Is there a thing like paypal, but with beers? If not, there should be.

    Arvedui of Arthedain, was married to Onodher's daughter... hence upon the death of Onodher, Arvedui claimed kingship over both of the realms. However, the Council of Gondor rejected the north's claim and instead nominated a great nephew of a distant king of the southern realm.

    I have two suggestions. I enjoy the narrative very much and credit you for your passion and willingness to share. I suggest that you scale up the graphics to full frame. Some of the detail is small and unreadable. So as I listen I strain to see what you are referring to. Most graphic software allow this and have algorithms that minimize pixelization and sometimes can improve the graphic. Second, I noticed at time you lose your train of thought. This is common and understandable with detailed narratives. Why not write down a script? Then just read it.

    Great video as always! I've learned quite a bit from this new series of yours! I read the Silmarillion in grade school but most of it went right over my head at the time. I really need to re read that book. I assume pretty much all of the information you have shared with us is coming from that source?
    BTW you could make these videos an hour and half or two hours long and I'd still watch. :)
    EDIT: also that picture you have displayed at the beginning of the video was made by Ted Nasmith. His artwork is always EXCEEDINGLY lore friendly.

    I'd see a whole lot canceled for Rings of Power and a complete debut of Melkor, Gondolin, and the battles before and after The Second War of the Ring. So many events need to be shown on screen and we may need a theatrical release.

    Isn't the Argonath faced the wrong way in the DaC campaign map? If the Fellowship sail southwards and the Argonath face them, it must face northwards, no? Not southwards, as is the case in DaC, if I remember correctly. Always wondered about that.

    Great work. I just can listen to this for 45 minutes and I still want to know more. Thanks to you, now I know more about middle earth than about history of my country, although it is boring compared to this :D
    I wanted to ask one thing. I cant remember his name and I don't want to search for it now, but the king who was challenged by Witch-King... Could he have become one of the 9 Wraiths? He was never heard of again and last time, he was seen, he was going to fight Witch-King one on one. What do you think about that? :)

    •  8 років тому

      +AWPscrape All 9 wraiths already existed at the time of Eärnur's disappearance.

    • @awpscrape3128
      @awpscrape3128 8 років тому

      +Arachír Galudirithon My bad :D and do you have some theory about what happened to him except the one, that he is dead?

    • @Harridax
      @Harridax 8 років тому

      +AWPscrape While not canon, in the Lord of the Rings MMO, it is discovered that Eärnur becomes Mordirith. Mordirith is a wraith and is the Steward of a revitalised Angmar in the absence of the Witch-King. The idea being that the Witch-King corrupted the King and mocked him by making him into a Steward of Angmar just as Gondor had to now be ruled by Stewards due to his disappearance.

    • @awpscrape3128
      @awpscrape3128 8 років тому

      Well that is intresting. I should get my hands on that game :D thank you :)

    • @SauronMorgoth
      @SauronMorgoth 8 років тому

      +AWPscrape Here is another theory that might spark your attention. In another Middle Earth game called Shadow of Mordor, there is a boss called The Black Hand. He is a Lieutenant of Sauron and is feared by many. His story depicts that he used to be a King of Men but fell into darkness (not talking about the nazguls). There isn't much evident on this claim that's why it's a theory. But there is a possibility that this could be Gondors last King only if the game were accurate as the books.

    Sounds like you have quite a biased opinion of Queen Beruthiel :P Truly she was of the King's Men, but her being so horrible is in the end nothing but rumors among Gondorian peoples, there was no mention of her actually accomplishing infamous actions during her time as Queen (in the same fashion, her using cats to spy on her people is old wife's tale, never was it positively stated that she did it).
    Plus, was she really from Umbar ? I can only remember that she was considered "Black Numenorean" by the people of Gondor, and after being exiled her ship disappeared after passing the Cape of Umbar, but I don't think she was precisely identified as Umbarrim ...
    Don't worry though, I'm being extra picky over that lady because it fascinates me that we know so few about her, but overall very, very good video, I definitely love your "Lore of Middle-Earth" series, and this one with game screens is even better than the Arnor one, keep going ^^

    • @nilubensonofnimruzir1637
      @nilubensonofnimruzir1637 8 років тому

      +Er-Mûrazor Arangmar The fact that she was exiled from Gondor means that she had very dark agendas. Maybe the 'cats' are just a metaphor for her large web of spies. We know that her name was erased from any records of Gondor, but her name continues to live on. You had to have left a very bad mark on the minds of the people of Gondor that your name continues to be cursed in the streets of Gondor two thousand years later, after your name was erased from any records of Gondor, whenever a black cat passes by.

    • @carolusmartellus2520
      @carolusmartellus2520 8 років тому

      +Malgalad “The Blade of Fire” Naurmegil Well, the metaphor of the cats for a spying network is very interesting, I'll admit it. But one should also take into account the relative conservatism and bigotry that transpired in Gondor's commons when it comes to Numenorean identity, especially Black Numenoreans. Her coming from a "Southron" Realm of the Adûnai might have been enough to fuel all rumors that the Gondorians might have propagated on her actions. And given that it was an arranged marriage it should be no surprise that there was no love between her and Tarannon, all the more reasons for Gondorians to whisper and for Tarannon himself to start listening to them. After all, her exile and erasing from gondorian records might have been a political act to appease the crowds (when you look at the commonry's reaction with Eldacar, a Northman half-blooded, imagine the uproar with a Dúnadan of the Black South)

    • @nilubensonofnimruzir1637
      @nilubensonofnimruzir1637 8 років тому

      Er-Mûrazor Arangmar Then let me ask you this: Why did he banish her? Why would Tarannon listen to gossippers on the streets? Yes, they are not living together, but why would Tarannon just listen to gossip and say 'well, if the commoners say it, it must be true!' That's kind of like 'it's on the internet, so it must be true!' Why would Tarannon do that? Why let the gossip of commoners influence your decisions? And erasing her name from the records to appease the commoners means nothing if all the people of Gondor are still going to talk about her. And banishing her from Gondor? Good, you just revived the old hatred between you and the Black Númenóreans. Kings can't always listen to their citizens. And also, why are you even protecting her? She's barely mentioned anywhere, but you just have the urge to protect her. Oh, wait, you're the Witch-king, you must have a crush on Beruthiel, then.

    • @carolusmartellus2520
      @carolusmartellus2520 8 років тому

      +Malgalad “The Blade of Fire” Naurmegil Damnit, he knows !!! *runs back to Carn Dûm*

    • @carolusmartellus2520
      @carolusmartellus2520 8 років тому

      +Er-Mûrazor Arangmar Just to precise, I talked about "gondorian bigotry" because in Gondor, especially before the Kin-Strife, people seem to be quite narrow-minded about the Dunedain identity, and from every writing of Tolkien that I could get my hands on, I get the impression that to Gondorians, any Dunadan who either does not bow to the Winged Crown, or is not a Faithful (in the Elf-Friend understanding of it), necessarily is a Black Numenorean, i.e. a Melkorite. And that perception is very wrong in my eyes, because given the suggested number or Numenorean Colonies in the Southlands, as stated in HoME, it is mathematically impossible that all of them still bowed to Morgoth or to Sauron after the Akallabêth.
      That should be taken into account when speaking of Beruthiel's status. Even if she did not follow the path of the Darkness, she was bound by a political marriage to a foreign king of a strange lands, with customs that might be entirely different from hers (if indeed she was from a land south to Umbar). It is quite easy to imagine that she became depressed, and/or reclusive, and that eventually she was estranged from her adopted people. It takes quite some time for a conservative people to accept a foreign monarch, even if he/she has a strong public presence (look at the Republicans' view on Obama), but if she does not even show herself to her people, dislike becomes nearly omnipresent.
      And even if Tarannon did not believe in the sorcery gossips that ran around her, he did become the first Childless King of Gondor, and may have had his own suspicions. But even then it took years for Tarannon to come up with the decision of exiling her and having her name erased. Whatever the reasons, it would be more rationale, from a political stance, to do that in order to make her responsible for the absence of descendants to Tarannon ...

    what's osgiliath etimology?

    • @carolusmartellus2520
      @carolusmartellus2520 8 років тому +1

      +lolply54 Osgiliath is constituted of "Ost" (meaning Fortress, or Citadel) with the -t muted to allow more fluidity in the spelling, "gil"( meaning Star, as in "Gil-Galad", Star-light), and "ath" (a collective plural suffix), with an -i between gil and ath to again allow fluidity in the spelling. (note that the mute -t and the added -i are grammatical rules in sindarin)
      Therefore Osgiliath quite literally means "Citadel of the host of Stars"
