Yes! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this video. Last weekend we were in the middle of nowhere at a campground and ready to head to a bike race. Got the same message. No cell service. Didn't have our books with us. We couldn't figure out where, but remembered our Tacoma had a slot on the outside door handle to stick the emergency key (in the fob) into. This was true on our 2020 sprinter and it saved us. I figured there would be an inside slot.......and now I know! The dang owners manual has nothing on this issue.
Hitting the unlock button on the fob always clears it for me. I don’t always want to unlock my doors though depending on where I am, wish I knew about this sooner, thanks!

Older Prius had a similar spot right next to start button, newer Prius just hold fob right up to start button if battery is dead in fob but Mercedes had to be freaking different. Thanks for the vid, was stranded at a gas station for a bit.

It was after the vehicle 'timed out' and locked itself (I was inside and could open/close fine etc) and I wonder if people have the same thing happen after it locks itself? Possibly anti-theft from stealing vehicle without the fob etc? Anyway haven't had it before today, so thank you again!

The battery in the key fob is not rechargeable. What is happening is that you were putting the key fob right next to the sensor in the vehicle, and it detects the key, even if the battery is dead. Other vehicles have this feature, but usually the place to hold the key fob is by the start button.
That will actually work in the door. So if for some reason the electronics are not working, you can use that to unlock/lock the door. We will disengage the chassis battery and we need to use that key to lock the door
sorry to hear that! what kind of issues? we did have the slide out bolt fail, dropped and dragged cutting the marine floor covering - but it was a good thing because entegra covered replacement of whole floor and we picked a vinyl from Lowes, we like much better. I've had issues, can't nail it down yet, will do a video on electric hot water cutting out after 3 days, dealership can't recreate and won't do anything so.........keeping on it through the full 2 year warranty. What are your issues? I may have info to help, not sure if you are in California? I have a contact at the main office. @@MrRMB1 no, access would be from the inside under dinette . If you can have some one donn by it they could add an additional bracket, Our guy did that but he actually check the other bracket which is closer to the bedside and he said that one was fine, so yours may just be fine and it could’ve just been something they didn’t do initially on ours.
I have tried the unlock technique several times. Occasionally it works, but more often not. The tip in this video works even when unlocking doesn’t work.
Ditto at 1000 miles. It's amazing to me that this is an ongoing problem with Mercedes. And it is amazing to me that after several years with this issue, Mercedes hasn't addressed it correctly in their owners manual.
Hi, Julie! I have heard that this procedure was developed to reduce the chances of professional car thieves from hacking the electronics and stealing the vehicle. Some people say that if you double click the FOB, it automatically disables both the remote unlock and the starting until you put your key into that slot. If you hear or find out anything else about that, post it here. I think only the Mercedes engineer that designed the security system knows for sure. LOL
Yes key is bad or you slept in the van and never unlocked it with the key befor trying to start it happens a lot to me you can exit the van hit unlock and re enter the van and it will then recognize the key again
Just purchaser a 2024 sprinter 24'. We drove 100 miles to our home and next day the key fob's (all 3 of them) would not work. Brand new but replaced batteries...still not work!!! Called dealership and we were told about that little secret insert place near floor. WHY HASN'T THIS PROBLEM BEEN ADDRESSED!!! Had this 4500 mile trip over Thanksgiving (from AZ to Florida) stopped at dealerships in Corpur Christi, TX and on returning in Lubbock, TX. Both could NOT fix the problem. REALLY!!!

We have a 2020 Mercedes Sprinter van and honestly, after owning 5 of them, I would never ever get any Mercedes vehicle. They are like Xmas trees. There is always some light on as something always goes bad.
Sorry to hear that, we have had I think 3 total, no issues, and this latest one, 2019 chassis has been great, no issues at all. But I get it, sometimes there are some that just are not a good batch etc.
so the answer is yes and no, yes, you can use to "unlock" your door if there is a key hole on handle, No, the key is not to start engine, only the fob and placed in the marked space. :)
Stuck on side of road between Carnarvon and Gascoyne Junction after stopping for lunch yesterday. Wouldn't start M B book hopelessly useless. We couldn't find the slot for key fob and out of mobile phone range. One stayed with vehicle one got ride to Gascoyne Junction for phone coverage. Then you tube to finally locate the çorrect place for key fob. Yes it finally started.. The M Benz book is dangerous and could get someone stranded miles from anywhere .
@@ronaldparker1736 glad you were safe in the end. Surprising how dealers do not thoroughly go over vehicles, I'm still researching why this even happens, not the battery in the fob either. I'm told possibly a security thing where if you press twice in a row it deactivates the fob?? still researching but will post more upon learnings.

I believe that port charges the key fob back up.

Ive had my 907 for 3 months ,passenger air bag malfunction, windows dont work off switches but do off key nice van but
You don't have to put the key in the marked space, you can just unlock the van with the key again, while in the cab

Our spare key fob actually has a key in it. A real key. Has anyone found a place to actually insert the key and turn it over?
