That was not because of the front brake, although it did not help the matter. His rear wheel lost traction, which is why the back end of the bike clearly swings out to the side. Losing traction on the front usually causes low sides because the front wheel dips and does not effect the rear wheel at all. Considering the road condition it wasn't an acceleration issue, rather he was probably dragging his rear brake. Braking with the rear make the rear wheel lose traction, kicked the back end of the bike out (as you can see it's natural to continue steering in the direction of travel, like a drift), if he stayed on the rear brake it would have locked the wheel, not allowing it to slide sideways on the pavement like you'd typically see with drifting. Weight transfer with the momentum carrying you out of the turn, rubber contacting while off-center, and potential panic braking is what actually threw him off the bike. Initiated by rear wheel slippage.
He should learn trail braking. The high-side results from a loss of traction by the rear wheel followed by sudden recovery of traction. If the rear wheel ends up pointing in a different direction then the front wheel the bike will whip the rider off when the rear regains traction. In the video when it started sliding in the rear he let off the brake and that's what caused it to throw him off. If he continued to hold the rear brake I think he would've had a low side. Or maybe he could have controlled the skid without wrecking and let off the rear brake when the front and rear wheels were pointing the same direction.

Phone or not, this dude lane merging needs to learn how to do it legally. Its not a drivers job to move over for you. Its your job to lane split when able to safely. But he has a camera and likes to make what he thinks are good videos.

You getting pissed at the driver, because they had no idea why you were revving your engine, not only makes YOU look stupid and arrogant, but that bad behavior reflects on all riders.

As a Californian, I witness bikers lane splitting when the law says they shouldn’t. No lane splitting when traffic is above 35 mph. And they are not to be faster than 10 mph than surrounding traffic. But they do it all the time. I just try to give them room. Still no need to put the bikers life in danger. Lane splitting between my Odyssey and an 18 wheeler at 70mph is a disaster waiting to happen. But I won’t chase them down to say that. I have better shit to do than tell a biker he/she is being reckless. I’m sure they know.
