You can jam the code from your tentacle to your Fx6. If you remove it, timecode continues to run on Fx6, matching the tentacle, since it's using actual code not noise. You don't need to house on the Fx6 like you would need to on the Fs7 or the a7siii. You can now use that tentacle on your a7siii, save yourself about $400. No need for two of them. A7Siii would require to have tentacle at all times since it uses the audio jack to put in the timecode signal.
For one, this build is amazing, and I needed the monitor mount tip! Also, your mellow and clear presentation makes it so easy to follow. Probably my favorite film related channel!
@ddfagioli Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm thrilled to hear that the monitor mount tip was helpful and that you enjoy the presentation style. Your support means a lot, and it's comments like yours that motivate me to keep creating content that's both informative and enjoyable. Thanks for being a part of our film-loving community! 🎥 Cheers!
Just snagged the Bright Tangerine top plates + top handle and you're absolutely right. These parts are built well! Also snagged the wooden camera mount and that's also a game changer. Thanks for the thorough recommendations!
Great insights. I appreciate your video. This is definitely a dream build for me. I am in the market for this camera and you provided some valuable tips. Thanks!
Thanks for the comment! Thats great to hear that it gave a little insight. Let me know if you have any other questions as I would be a happy to reply or make another video about them. Cheers!

I like your tech videos and I see their place on your channel, but just from hearing you talk and watching your portfolio pieces, I feel as if you’re leaving a lot of experience you have in the background. As the the owner/operator movement pushes forward I find that a lot of us are valuing the content makers who share practical advice and on set work experience. Think Luc Forsyth, Mark Bone, Cranky Cameraman, David Morefield. You remind me of this caliber of people and I think you should consider expanding your content to cover that side of our industry. I’d love to see what experiences you can share. I think others would appreciate that in tandem with the gear stuff. :)
Fist off thank you for writing such a thoughtful comment. This is great insight and I appreciate being lumped into that group of UA-camrs! I agree! I would love to do more content like that, Really it comes down to me. I am so focused and so in my head already on every shoot no matter what size or budget that the last thing I do is pull out another camera or my phone and start capturing BTS content. I will do more of this though because I agree 100% with you. Showing the process is more important than talking about it, and with phones nowadays there isn't really any excuses anymore haha. Thanks so much for the comment, and the fire under my butt to create more engaging content. Cheers!
Definitely! And it doesn’t even necessarily have to be BTS even if you’re just doing breakdowns of previous work and describing the process I think that could work really well. Happy Monday :)
That’s awesome! You will honestly love it. The fit and finish is 👌 Let’s hope someday they send one over. That new one that they have coming out looks awesome and set up proper. Thanks for the comment, cheers!
100% love your thoughts!! I had a couple smallrig products failing on me and it just sucks... I thought about getting some higher quality basplate and stuff but never pulled the trigger because of the price. I guess your video sold me and I am going to purchase now 🙏🏼
Great video man! This is probably one of the cleanest fx6 setups I’ve seen. I’ll probably model my rig after this. It Adresses most of the issues I’ve found with my last rig. But I’d be interested in how you address the monitoring situation when using the standard audio top handle because I find myself having to use it most of the time.
Thanks so much, I appreciate it! The products these companies make are just the cleanest and most secure I have found to date. Everything fits perfect! I am not trying to get you to watch more of my videos but I have a non talking video about that set up here: ua-cam.com/video/Y_V1pCGGoSU/v-deo.html This covers the XLR Handle set up and how I mount the monitor. Thanks for the comment, Cheers!
100% on the monitor mount comment. The only mount that hasn't come loose on me in the swivel tilt section is the Andy Cine monitor mount, the cold shoe attachment is atrocious on it though. My monitor crashed to the ground when using it once. Running the SmallRig hawk lock swivel tilt monitor mount now but I'm always having to tighten it up so it does get too loose on set.
Nice! It was a pain finding the right one. That is no bueno on the monitor crash! That would ruin my day for sure haha. Thanks for the comment, cheers!

Just a question for the baseplate: Bright tangerine got it for different models because of the hight of the lens mount on different cameras - I guess it doesn't really matter if I get the FX6 version and put it on my fx3? I'll check out some more videos but I would appreciate your thoughts :)
You will want to get the universal version here: www.brighttangerine.com/store/leftfield-3-15mm-lws-qr-baseplate-core/ And one of the Manfrotto riser plates from them also.
Clean Set-up! I don't mind my monitor mount panning left to right; I actually prefer it. and man! this looks cleaner without the silly looking fx6 top handle. Hope the mkii has XLRs on body without messing with the design too much. I have a pretty clean build on mine but this makes me want to do a rebuild hahahaha! Nice Vid!!! Also what are you using for you key and top light? lol Nice YT set build. Im just getting on so looking for inspiration! Subbed!
Thanks, I appreciate it! I don't like when it pans by itself as they all inevitably do over time is my problem. When they are new, it is a different story. Yeah for sure on the top handle! It serves its purpose but I try not to use it when I don't have to. I agree on the MKII. For my Lighting setup I have a 600D with a soft box as my key with a white bounce as my fill, and a 300D up on top with a china bulb on it. I use an old Aputure Mini-20 set to 3200K as my rim. Thanks for the comment, Cheers!
@@KarlWeinreich Thank you! I did a search and I think what I am referring to is a thread plate for the matte box you use? It sits on the lens even when you don’t have the matte box connected?

That depends on the style of the shoot. I do both. The gimbal really is amazing for getting those clean shots but a little camera shake is my personal favorite look. If the customer is looking for slow motion shots that are clean and stable then the gimbal comes out. Thanks for the comment, cheers!
I record externally 99% of the time. But if/when I do use on camera mics, it is the Sennheiser MKH 416 or the Sony ECM-44. Thanks for the comment, Cheers!
I am running the tentacle sync lav set up. Or if my subject is standing in one place, the zoom F6 with a lav or boom mic over top. I use the 32bit float instead of the onboard audio. Thanks for the comment, cheers!
The scratch audio is ok, when you hook up a mic it depends on what you put on it but it sounds good. The preamps are pretty good. I like the flexibility of 32bit Float is why I don't use it though.
