      @@JasonMorrisphotocinema I have the nucleus but ive never used it. I like that I can pull the lens as fast or slow as I want - not sure if the feeling is the same with the nucleus handles. I just bought the g master 24-70 and 70-200 though so I am learning an entirely new system with auto focus and everything. Totally new year, like starting over.

    I usually mount my Portkeys on the stock monitor mount of the FX6 with a ROD Adapter. Works like a charm and brings it right in front of the handle without risking damage to the hot shoe or being too high up. Can definitely recommend!
    Also I found that the FX6 microphone holder is just too janky and i get a lot of handling noise transferred. I solved that by 3d printing a rycote adapter so I can use their mic solutions!

    Great vid... Why you think sony haven't put yet angle/degrees shutter and waveform on the cinema lenses... I have FX30 and love it, yet at work we use a GH5M2 and 180˚ + waveform makes me work faster.

    So what if, when you do handheld shot, break the 180 degree rule and raise the shutter for example 240 or more, will it be better later in post? Because micro jitters will bring more motion blur too!

    I own one & it’s my favorite camera of all time. Not sure if I should get a second one or get an FX3. I’ve heard reports that the FX3 can overheat, which is something that worries me for documentaries or weddings. Leaning towards a second FX6. Maybe FX3 can be my C cam 😅

    • @JasonMorrisphotocinema

      definitely get an FX3 for that B cam. Having a smaller camera is very versatile. You won't be overheating if turning the overheat temp to high. This setting must be set. The fan will be sufficient enough to cool it down

    I’m looking to get a lense for my fx30, I use it for videography and I want it to have a range. I was looking at the sigma 18-50mm F2.8 and the sony E PZ 18-105mm F4. Which one would you recommend? If neither, what’s another you would recommend in the same budget?

    Hi Jason,
    This is gonna be a pretty long question, so I wanted to first apologize, but second, wanted to thank you if you stay along for the entire thing and end up answering my question.
    So I am in a bit of a dilemma, I was saving up for an FX3, but then I started to realize that maybe I should use that money for a new PC. What set the foundation for this thinking was that I not long ago got an A7IV, but I wanted an FX3 as I wanted more of a cinema camera.
    I should lay everything out in this post so it's easier for you to answer my question, having all the details accessible if you choose to do so. I'll start off by saying that obviously by having the A7IV and not having any clients currently and probably not having clients for a good while, that I don't need an FX3. However, I do want one.
    Some reasons for this include the aspect that I get off work pretty late and by the time I am shooting, it's typically pretty dark out so the lower MP count and the higher native ISO will allow me to shoot in these dark conditions with more confidence (as i dont live in or near a bright place when its nighttime). Obviously, the A7IV is a beast of a camera in low light, but I think it's pretty well known that the FX3 is better. Some other things include the potential to shoot in 4k 120, good rolling shutter performance, and having a very low chance of overheating even though I've never had that problem with the A7IV (though I only have my A7IV on for like a minute at a time, and I should mention that I have yet to use 4k60 and don't pan my camera super fast, but regardless, having the ability to do so with very little consequences is a nice feeling). It's also netflix approved, which is nice to know. Generally, I would like a video camera to accompany my hybrid/photo shooter in the A7IV. I guess I would still consider myself a hobbyist, but I want to hit the ground running with creating a portfolio of my work and shopping it around very soon.
    Moving on to the PC. My current PC isn't bad (GTX 1080 I7 6700K, 32 GB DDR4 RAM). However, I do feel it's getting a bit dated and could use for an upgrade in terms of my editing suite and things like that. So, that is my decision. Do I spend about $4,000 on the FX3 with the 50mm f 1.8, or do I save $500 and get a new PC?
    I think most people would advise me to:
    1. Use the money for other gear instead like better audio, lighting, etc.
    Or
    2. Buy one now and just save for the other later
    The main problem with this is that i only have until the end of February to decide as my family is forcing me to start saving up to pay back my student loans. Therefore, which ever one I don't buy now, I won't be able to buy for maybe up to five years and I fear that the FX3 is gonna be basically unusable and that they might not produce another small form factor cinema camera by then if i choose the PC. If I choose the FX3, I fear that my current PC might die before the next five years, and I won't have enough money to replace it.
    So this brings me here as I have gotten really great advice from you in the past.
    I should note that the only gear I have is a tripod, A7IV, Tamron 24mm f 2.8, 3 tube lights, a square small rig camera light, a mid XLR mic, and a shotgun on camera mic. I have also been shooting films since 2017 and have started photography in the last year. So the only thing that keeps me in the amateur category is that I don't have any clients yet as I haven't attempted to put myself out there and look for them, but I plan on doing that soon.
    I should also note that my computer has a few overheating issues that, after further inspection seems to be a result of old age, making me wonder whether a new PC is the way to go or not. However, this only happens when gaming. However, I haven't put it through the ringer with any intense editing, so that might make it overheat as well.
    So, do I get the FX3 with the 50mm f 1.8 (that's all I can afford, unfortunately)? Do I get the PC instead and just keep getting better with my A7IV despite some of the shortcomings I mentioned and hope that the FX3 is still viable in a few years or hope that there is a small form factor netflix approved sony cinema camera available? Or should I do something entirely different that you didn't see mentioned?
    I am sorry for this long post and appreciate it if you read this far. I would appreciate it even more if you could provide some feedback, insights, or guidance.
    Thanks so much!

      If your PC already struggles with A7IV codecs, getting an FX3 isn't really going to help you that much. What are the limitations with your current PC?

    • @itsallgone5077
      @itsallgone5077 Рік тому

      @Orphan Uprising Thanks for the reply! I'm sorry, I forgot if I specified in my original comment about this or not, but I haven't put my A7IV footage through the ringer in the editing suite so I don't know for sure if it will handle it or not. However, my intuition tells me it might not be able to in the long run as my computer is shutting down just by gaming on my 1080p monitor without pushing max settings.
      The current limitations for my PC are the consistent overheating, despite there being enough fans and venting in it, and generally I think it's just the age or the PC being like 6 or 7 years old despite still having decent parts.
      What are your thoughts?

    • @orphanuprising
      @orphanuprising Рік тому

      @@itsallgone5077 I would definitely try to upgrade your PC situation first. The best codecs in the a7iv sound like it'll bring that PC to it's knees. Its hard not to get caught up in camera specs and want to upgrade to the best of the best, but the a7iv is still a remarkably capable camera. There's so much you can do with it. If you really feel like you need 120p, just remember the a7iv can do 1080p at 120p. I know it's not 4k, but it is still 10-bit, which in my opinion goes alot further in perceived image quality than just resolution. Thats just what I would do though. Good luck on the path, either way!
