Thank you so much for your videos! Very informative
Hey man, Watched a ton of your vids through the TSA hiring process, passed CBT, got Tentative Offer, Filled out SF-86, then completed finger printing and did medical… ONE issue, a week after I took the medical they sent an email saying I did not meet the requirements! I’m 23 not obese healthy physically and mentally, the only thing that wasn’t Ideal is I’m on Sertraline which is a non-sedative SSRI medication. I’m now waiting for the appeal paperwork to come in so I can begin to file, I’m researching strenuously to make sure it gets overturned after I fax the appeal… Any tips or advice with TSA and SSRIs on the med. Eval? Love the vids man, keep it up. Thank you!
You should be fine, they want an independent doctor to sign-off on you. It’s not automatically disqualifying. You were sent to a contract health facility and they are mostly RNs and PAs. They don’t have the same qualifications as a MD to sign-off on certain things.
Later…for your security clearance it won’t be a concern because there’s a HIGH threshold to deny clearance for mental health issues. They literally need to justify that the mental health issue will cause you to compromise national security.
I passed medical 7/15 then never heard anything about background investigation being done. I got call from HR this week telling me my start date. Does that mean my background investigation came back ok? I asked hr and they said if we are calling you then you passed it. Everyone else I see on Reddit etc says an investigator called them but no one called me. Do you have any thoughts on this??
It’s new. some people have been getting cleared without interviews if there is nothing the investigator needs to follow-up or get clarification on.
I had a few jobs I didn’t like in between 07/15 and now but I didn’t put them on my sf 86 form when I updated it bc I updated it around 08/15. HR said I will get another sf86 form before orientation so do you recommend I put those jobs I had on the form but to me that looks like I was lying to investigators as I didn’t put them on it around 08/15. Makes it look like I was withholding information but I literally only stayed at a few jobs for like two days. Any thoughts I’d truly appreciate it?
@Funny_FL1 there were jobs I left off my sf 86 bc I made less than $600 and therefore not required to filed taxes or only worked for 1-2 days and quit. I told the investigator about them and explained why i didn’t list them. Just list them and an explanation why you didn’t list them the first time. You’re not the first one to do it that way.
Thank you so much
What if I don’t know anyone to reference not related to me. No friends, coworker 😂😂😂
Neighbors, classmates, teachers…
What shoes to wear on the job? Before uniforms, all black tennis shoes are fine. Is that okay after? Hoka’s are what I’m looking for.
All black shoes. Don’t buy anything yet. Once you start look at what everyone else is wearing and buy accordingly.
I’m concerned that you are stating to divulge expunged records. As it states clearly on the application DO NOT disclose expunged records. But you are saying tell them??? Please elaborate
I’ve listed the link to the SF-86 pdf document from the OPM website. The document is the latest revision. See section 22, the box that says “Police Records”
www.opm.gov/forms/pdf_fill/sf86.pdf
Not mentioning sealed/expunged records counts as a willful omission. It’s seen as mitigating to present yourself in a better light and it closes off lines of necessary questioning. When applying for a security clearance everything is on the table. I’ve seen new hires get walked out because of this. It’s not up to you to decide what the investigator needs to know. When you apply for a security clearance your life is no longer private.
See the link I listed below.

What if I have a 4 year degree in criminal justice and homeland security will I still come in as a D band for TSO
Yes you will, TSA doesn’t give credit college degrees.
Would having a previous wage garnishment stop the process for me?
No
@@theTSAguy thanks for answering
Passed everything. Got tentative offer. Had my airport interview and fingerprints. This was in July of 2023. Never heard back. Did my background in June 2023. I think it’s just a joke now 😂
No news is good news when it comes to TSA lol. The hiring process is just checking boxes.
Hi, I was wondering if you had some insight or advice. I have an offer for an entry level step position, but I'm 2-4 years into the industry. The manager knows this so I asked if I could get bumped up to a comparative grade, but he refused. It's a 7,9,11,12 step for an engineering position.
Is it really that difficult for them to open up a higher grade position if they like me? I've explained to the manager many times that I won't accept this pay and he's still hounding me to sign.
Even entry level positions in my field would be in the 11 range and I don't feel like starting my career over on the bottom rung.
There are hiring quotas and the office only has a certain number of slots allocated for each pay grade. The manager could make the case to HR to hire you at a higher pay grade but they need to justify it.
The thing about government is that you start off with a lower salary but you’ll be right back to where you want to be in a matter of 2-3 years. You can always take the job and then ask for accelerated promotion. That’s what I did.
As far as what you should do…it depends on what your end goal is and if the government job will help you get there.
Thank you for your interest in the Transportation Security Officer position, Announcement my number and airport i applied to Spoke PT. Your application is complete. No further action is required at this time did i pass or not
Fwd me a screen shot of the email. My contact is on the description.
Where are you in the process?
What type of schedule I should expect at my home airport after FLETC ?
That will be determined by your home airport. It’s a 24 hour operation so you will be working in shifts based on whatever schedule your airport demands.
I start training next week
Let me know how it goes
How long did it take for you to get a final offer?
At TSA, after I finished everything…about 2 weeks. That’s because my airport was opening a new terminal and they needed bodies asap
How long did you hired after you passed your medical evaluation?
Enjoy the sphincter training segment lol
I already went through a federal background check do you have to do it again
You shouldn’t have to, but TSA will do it all over again
Hi i just did my cbt. waiting on results. I was a bit confused.. i did research on what i might get test on bur it seems like some were missing. i was wondering if you know if there were any changes recently. i also searched it online and seems a mix of answer..
i saw people saying i moght have gotten the wrong test
BUT
i also saw some people saying they were changing it but not sure if its recent or started to change it..
anyways, thanks for the videos! very helpful
You got the right test. The test changed around the beginning of this year. It’s mainly spatial perception testing now. No more X-ray or English testing.
@@theTSAguy Thank you! i also jut got a reply and i passed!
its a tentative offer. so it said i need to accpet and follow the rest of the requirements in order to continue.
again thank you!
@darsky0110 good luck
Hello, I went through a bankruptcy that got discharged and everything is good now. I also have a couple of places I got fired at just for attendance, everything is listed on my SF-86. I am in a repayment plan for state taxes. Can you speculate if I will have any issues with the back ground investigator?
List it all on your SF86, and just be up front with the investigator. You’ll be fine.
@@theTSAguy thanks!!!!!
So I applied to these airports. The HR rep said they werent hiring but said another airport desperately needs people. They give me the link, I apply. They say they will accept my TJO. I go onto the USAjobs and it says selected. Based on your experience how many more months or years do you think I am looking at before I get a real job offer? lol. @@theTSAguy
Is there a number we can call to check status or is there a portal we can check
no number to call, just sit and wait. you don't want to bother OIG, they will reach out if they need anything.
Hello. I have been following your content for a couple months and it has helped me recently aquire a job offer. I wanted to say thank you for putting out this helpful content. I just finished my first week as a tso and i have a couple questions. Do you have a business/channel email that i might be able to write to? Many thanks
Happy that you’re doing well! Contact me at akatsaguy@gmail.com
@@theTSAguy Thank you
Hey, I have a question. Do you think disclosing an old debt has already been resolved is necessary? This is my case right now while filling out the questionnaire for a contingent offer for TSO. Please, I need your input. Thank you!
No need to mention resolved debts because they are no longer a financial liability to you.
@@theTSAguy , that's good to know, and thank you so much! I passed the CBT exams, and I accepted a contingent offer. I am now in the assessment process. I will let you know for sure!
@rmhansom7418 good luck!🍀
Hey man I love your videos, you're the reason I'm interested in tsa, I have a question, I already passed my cbt and I'm in my background check, the only problem is that my parents are illegal, is there away around it?
Send me an email and I’ll explain in detail what OPM policy says about this. Email is in the description box
IS IT OK TO CHECK WITH THE AIRPORT IN PERSON TO SEE WHAT ARE YOUR JOB OFFER CHANCES IF I AM NOW ELIGIBLE???
Yes, you can. However….they won’t have an answer for you, you’ll just be told to apply and go through the process.
@@theTSAguy What if I have already gone through the process and are at the Job Offer stage? Can I check with them in person or should I just wait for job offer?
Wait for the order first
@@theTSAguy Ok thanks TSA Guy! Appreciate your feedback.
Hey! I was looking to apply for tsa but I’m worried about the background check because I’ve only worked 2 jobs in the past 5 years. My memory is a little fuzzy too about one of the jobs so I’m not sure about the dates. Also my recent job that I was at for 3 years, I was terminated for violating company policy. I figured I should be completely honest while applying but am I immediately disqualified from being hired because of what happened in my previous employment?
You’re never immediately disqualified, you’re always given the opportunity to explain yourself. As long as the violation wasn’t a legal violation then you’re good. Just tell the investigator what happened that way they hear it from you first and they aren’t surprised by it later. Just know the employer will most likely show the investigator your employee records.
@@theTSAguy Wait, was that a yes? lol
Yes lol…but it’s definitely not disqualifying. There’s a lot of caveats which the investigator will address with you. You’re going to list the job on your SF86 and put the reason for leaving is termination. Then tell the investigator what happened. As long as it’s not habitual behavior and it’s just a lapse in moral judgement then they will be more forgiving of it. You’re not expected to be perfect, just be honest.
@@theTSAguy Yeah, it was a one time thing. I deeply regret the decision and I was hoping they would be forgiving as I’ve reflected on it and want to do right. I’ve just submitted my application. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions. God bless
Yea you’re fine, good luck!
Hello, big fan of all your content. Applying for a tsa position but I'm have an issue with the eqip questionnaire. I sent a email to the support that was mentioned on the usajobs site a few days ago but as of this point in time I have yet to receive a response. I get the error message for the SSN that says "Unable to complete registration. This social security number or request number may have already been registered. If problems persist, contact your sponsoring agency for assistance." For the forgot password error message I get this response, " You are unable to perform a password reset for the specified username. If you have previously registered using this username and currently have an active investigation request, contact your sponsoring agency for assistance." Any information that could lead to a fix would be greatly appreciated.
Did you already submit the SF-86 or are you having trouble accessing it for the first time?
I filled out the DHS personnel security data verification request form, disclosure and authorization pertaining to consumer reports pursuant to the fair credit reporting act form, and the Declaration for Federal Employment form. The only thing left to fill out in this phase of the hiring process is Review and Sign e86 form in e-QIP
@rpk5000 you’ll get an email it’s login credentials for the SF86 system
Hello. Hopefully you respond to my comment because I’m desperate to hear any advice you may have.😩
So I applied for TSA back in March of this year. I completed the SF 86 form, signed a NDA form, the phone assessment, the interview, the drug and medical screening, and finger prints…I passed everything. I completed my fingerprints on 06/02 and I’ve been stuck in limbo ever since. 3 months have passed since my fingerprints and haven’t heard back from anyone. My application says 67% and that I’m stuck in background. Is this normal? The whole process has been a total of 6 months and I’m starting to get a little discouraged. Any tips or advice you may have? Do you think there may be something wrong?😕
You’re fine, the background investigation is the longest part. 6 months into the process is not a lot of time. Mine took about 22 months. My advice would be to not put all your hopes into one job and to keep applying for other jobs until you get hired.
@@theTSAguy THANK YOU❤️
How do u check your application status?
@faltumedia3883 the candidate dashboard isn’t working. You just need to wait for update emails.
