After Later Audio Popple // Stereo Eurorack Filter - demo & LOTS of patch tips
Вставка
- Опубліковано 11 лип 2024
- Here’s the new stereo Eurorack filter ‘Popple’ from Seattle based After Later Audio. It’s a stereo filter design based on the Mutable Instruments Ripples v1 circuit. You have stereo inputs and then stereo outputs for band pass, 2 pole low pass and 4 pole low pass. Stereo cut off, and resonant controls as well as CV inputs are present plus the addition of attenuverters to fit the cut off frequencies on the left and right sides and there’s addition left and right FM inputs to modulate the two sides of the stereo filter independently. As always I’ve tried to cram plenty of patch tips into the video so I hope you gain some ideas and patch tips for your own systems.
Popple is available here - bit.ly/PopplePre

God this is dope
you say that to everything lol
This module is a prime example of why Mutable open sourcing her modules is amazing. Not just squeeze it down and change the panel but really push the boundaries of what the original design could do.
2 minutes after I watched this video I ordered one from Perfect Circuit. Now I keep watching this video.
I've had this filter for a few weeks now and I can say I love the stereo imaging I can get with it. I haven't dove as deep as you DivKid but so far I like it a lot.
… and now I’m adding this to the growing list of modules I need. Great helpful video as usual! Thanks
Great Demo, thanks mate! Looks like a great module.
Cool, lot of nice tips like always, I really like the sound and also the way you can offset the frequency, way one easy to do that kind of stuff with one module only.
Honestly been looking for a filter module like this for a while!
That was brilliant
Dope! I use that multiple outs for stereo imaging tip all the time with the After Later Filthy and the Filter 8
Very cool! Great patches to show it off. Just wish there was an attenuator on that main cutoff input.
This video couldn't have come at a better time for me -- I was just trying to figure out how I could add stereo filtering to my rack in a modest amount of space!
I definitely think they are onto a winner here for sure.
Sounding decent
I like it. Added it to the list. 😝 Also, which module were you taking the bass from? It sounded great... ✌️
GODEATER on the left there - please do a demo!
just sitting pretty in the corner of the case
You can also probably send the Left output into the right input , and listen to one of the right outputs, to get a mono, series dual peak filter
It wouldn't work as dual peak is mixed in parallel. You could do dual peaks with input to left (which normalises to right) then take the two band pass filter outputs and mix them together externally. Then you can freely move the two band pass peaks around. Cool idea.
@@DivKid I’m noticing that when I plug a mono source into the left input, the volume is very very low, although it does become stereoized. When I plug it into the right input the volume is five times as loud. Is this normal? (pun intended)
Is it possible to get even roughly v/oct response from those attenuverting FM inputs? So one could achieve separate tracking in dual mono mode?
Hello! Thx for this video :) can you tell me the oscillator you are using at the beginning at the video to show us raw filter sweeps? Thanks a lot!
Hello, I can't be 100% as it was some time ago but it could have been the bOSC from After Later Audio. But listening back and looking at it, it is just a saw wave. So any analogue oscillator with a saw output will do that.
Happy to chat about oscillators options and point you to some videos that might help if you'd like.
I’m into this. As someone who has considered running dual Ripples but didn’t quite have the space for it, this module seems a little too perfect for me! Have After Later tapped into my brain? How did they know this is what I wanted?
Exactly my feelings
Does anyone happen to know how deep this module is? It's not listed in the ALA product page.
16:31 These waves are made for wobbling...and that's just what they'll do.
Great tutorial, and very tempting module, thank you. What patch cables are those, never seen them.

Thank you:)
May I ask, do you have an electronics background? You possess so much knowledge about such complicated modules.
This module renders amazing sounds and stereo imaging. Really great!
Hi Sarah, thanks for the nice comment and question. I did study physics and electronics at A level but to be honest didn't do great in either as I was out touring with bands by that point. Music has been my background and life for a long time. From performing, composing, producing etc. The biggest previous jobs prior to video was sound design for sample companies and composing and producing music for TV and media.
DivKidVideo what a great background! You must have stories, sir! Well, I just want to say you have impressive knowledge of these modules. You make it all so straight forward. Always a pleasure to watch you. 🙋🏻♀️
thank you, really appreciate that. Lots of stories from various jobs and tours yeah.
i NEEDZ those cute alien patch cables, where to get??
they are Luigis Modular cables, they've stopped trading for a while for some future changes but I think they intend to come back. There's a message on the site.

What is this...a filter for Time Lords?
not sure if they're doctor who fans.
Yeah, that's 100% Gallifreyan on there and it says "ripples" three times. I'm both impressed and disappointed in myself for figuring it out.
I realize they are expert hiders but I kept my eyes peeled for Popples and didn’t see a single one.

@@hidikitalks haha ok now that makes more sense, sorry i was the dense one
Darn Jason, stop being so hard on yourself you probably aren’t dense... your possibly awesome. The people exploiting children through television and toys in your region just dropped the ball and failed to expose you to the explosive pleasure of Popples. Also I will say this. I own one After Later Audio module (which is well built and wonderful) it’s original panel lies in a drawer in wait of guilty disposal because when it was created the concept of eyes gazing upon it was not even a consideration. I love and use this module nearly everyday but with a pleasant panel I bought elsewhere.

Will a German reseller like Schneidersladen get these?
Not sure, it's pre sale on their website until October 7th when they will ship the modules around the world direct. But you could tell Schneidersladen you'd like them to get one for you or ask After Later Audio.
Hope you can get one easily if you'd like one.
Twin Ripples ?
That's the general gist. cut and res as global control but individual CV and offsets per side too.
They really just put Gallifreyan on a module huh
I just saw this module on RedMeansRecording and have been treading comments sections of videos on the module to see if anyone knows what it says. I immediately saw the writing, but I’m not fluent in the language
Lately, it seens that we get nothing but sponsored videos and the sponsored products have been pretty mundane.
Hella disagree on the lame part. Also people have to earn a living. Div gives us hella all the time for free.
Divkid videos are some of the best, most technically proficient, musically advanced modular videos out there. No reason he should be rewarded for it and be able to put food on the table for providing such quality.
Ben makes some of the best, if not the best demos and reviews for a whole swath of modules and they are invaluable to the modular community. These are really well done and I don’t see how they could be mundane at all, maybe you might be after the wrong type of content. Sponsored videos are a great way of supporting and I don’t see how that could be a hindrance to any of his videos.
Ben good. Opinion bad. ... however I can agree that the modules themselves may not standout or standalone but I feel the overview and patches provided prove that a lot can be done with simple tools and a lot of knowledge. There are so many options out there in the modular world and with modular being... modular, it makes sense that the countless combinations and potential of those combos makes any “mundane” technical, in-depth content so very welcomed in the community. Fr the community celebrates Ben/Div and wouldn’t have bloomed without his help
Lame, sad comment
