  • In this video resident expert Nick Bigelow shares his thoughts on the new Rainier and Baker, a Peaks variation originally created by Mutable Instruments. After Later Audio has reimagined Peaks by offering 2 formats in less HP along with new CV inputs and attenuverters for the multifunction modules various parameters.
Rainier and Baker add CV inputs and attenuverters for each of the four parameters and adds attenuverters for each of the outputs.
Rainier and Baker can be an ADSR-style envelope generator, an LFO and a drum emulator. By default we will load the Dead Man’s Catch (DMC) firmware which adds the Alt ENV, ALT LFO, ALT Tap, Alt Drum modes below.
Additional Dead Man’s Catch firmware modes:
    Basic (original modes)
    Envelope
    LFO
    Tap LFO
    Bass/Snare Drums
    Alternative ENV
    Double attack envelope
    Repeating attack envelope
    Looping envelope
    Randomized AD envelope
    Bouncing ball envelope
    Alternative LFO
    Frequency-modulated LFO (folded sine FM)
    Frequency-modulated LFO (random FM)
Varying wave shape LFO ( folded sine WS mod)
Varying wave shape LFO ( random WS mod)
    Phase-locked loop oscillator
    Alternative TAP Mini-sequencer
    ModSequencer
    Pulse Shaper
    Pulse Randomizer
    Turing Machine
    Bytebeats
    Alternative DRUM
    FM drum Generators
Randomized bass and snare drum generators
    Randomized high hat

Named after two mountains in Washington, neat!

I was one of the first people to have the original Peaks and it is one of the only modules I own that I would never consider selling. 7-8 years later it's still in every other patch.

Hi Nick, great video! I am always watching with big interest when I see a new video by Patchwerks pop up in my feed :)

I use 2 peaks. 1 in my main system and the other in my drum palette 62. Also a favourite of mine. FM drums, hats, LFOs and bytebeats are my favs. Classic design, no frills and great drum sounds.

Crazy! If I hadn't seen it, I wouldn't believe it... Might also be nice to throw a MI Branches into the setup... Have you tried other sequencers with the setup? Steppy? Euclidean Circles? Voltage Block?

How is the CV applied in Expert mode? Does the CV affect both envelopes or LFOs? Or perhaps just the first? Thanks.

I have no modular gear. Would this be an awesome addition to my dfam?

Oh yes - especially with the deadman’s catch (DMC) firmware, which gives you all kinds of different drum sounds and crazy envelopes/LFOs

Fx I’ve had great success with the double attack envelope in the DMC firmware, using it to make clap sounds by modulating the noise level input!

If you haven't gotten into modular yet, just be aware that you'll at least need a power supply and somewhere to mount the module.

Is there a manual for the Rainer?
