I bought a Suzuki Samurai, installed a Toyota 22R-E, lifted it, bought new aluminum wheels and 35” mud terrains, a winch, built an exocage and bought a new soft top along with installing new rear gears. I have a very capable vehicle that I also drive on the street for around $12k
Maybe they could sacrifice like .5 horsepower and put a better muffler on it. That noise would get annoying after a long session with that CVT keeping the revs high.
Yeah could you imagine paying that much for something so unrefined. The driving experience between the loud engine and exhaust and the garbage CVT is atrocious. Not to mention everything vibrating and rattling. No thanks.
I have one, and it sounds no different than the dune runners. Look in person it's not as loud as it sounds in this video with the amplified microphones, and instead of going off of a video why don't you go drive one yourself.
@@phild9813 I have found ALL of the SxS pretty loud BUT you can get add-on mods and enclosures to quiet them down. In terms of pricing NEW Can-Am Defenders are around $16,000 and go on up from there to the $30,000+ range so the Polaris is on par with the Can-Am Defenders. The thing though, is that a 1990's-era B-series (i.e.B200) Mazda compact truck (i.e. which is a Mazda modded Ford Ranger!) is now only around $4500 used so I could mod it to high heaven with 4x4 parts and M/T tires and it would carry more and be more comfortable while still being able to go on the more narrow trails. And when Mazda OEM'ed the Ford Ranger, they added some extras that increased reliability and comfort so that is your best best for getting Can-Am Defender ability at a much cheaper price! Those Mazda compact trucks sure do run like tanks! They go and go like forever! V

Came for the comments and they didn’t disappoint! Knew this luxury side by side was coming for over a year. In a day an age where motorcycles are $30k, pickups are $100k, homes are $500k, Polaris knows what it’s doing building these things. Heck, 4 years ago a Ranger North Star General or whatever with tracks on it sold from a dealer I worked for, $44k out the door.

People that aren’t into power sports will never understand….remember people, there is a base price. Not just top of the line. If people will pay 70-80k for an F150 there is a market for a 40k SXS when they already hit 30k pretty easy.

Need the helmet to muffle the sound or go deaf) Not an ideal hunters rig. Sneaking up onto anything is impossible with that rig. Not ideal for ranch work as a cab over. So, that leaves some sort of.. expedition/glamping use case scenario. I for 1, would have a lot of other choices that would come 1st at this price range that are street legal too boot.

Side by sides are nice for off road fun, but most can't afford the cost of that one. I'll take my 4x4 pickup, because I can take it offroad and take my kids to school or to the grocery store.
There some 3rd party companies that do the headlight and safety bumper mods and backup camera requirements such that these Polaris Expeditions and Can-Am Defenders are STREET LEGAL in all 50 states and all Canadian Privinces! They even do the federal crash tests and road tests that will certify this class of vehicle as being 60+ MPH highway-safe and legal! V
There is a very specialized use case for these things. You really have to have a very specific use for this machine. I'm sure there are people out there that will buy this, but I can't justify that money. I grew up on four-wheelers that could've been purchased new for $5,000 (at the high end). As many have said, I'd take an old Samurai or an XJ and stick about $10K into it and have it be just as capable, plus if you don't go too crazy with the mods, still have it be street legal - complete with A/C and heat! Plus I wouldn't need to listen to the drone of that engine. My goodness that is not something I could listen to for long periods of time. I want Polaris to succeed, especially since they're based out of my home state of MN, but $50K+ isn't it Polaris.
It's on loan from Polaris so they have to play the game. In the real world I have worn a helmet in my Can Am exactly zero times. Your milage will likely be the same.....
They (I think it was Nathan) mentioned in the first video about this thing that it's a loaner from the manufacturer, and they're picky about the helmet use. All I know is that I'm not about to pay through the nose for the doors, etc, just to wear a helmet. Maybe if you're doing goofy things likely to risk a roll over, it would be different.
Been around Polaris rangers most of my adult life-long time! No doubt they have a comfortable ride, but they are constantly in the shop! If you can live with the price and the cost of ownership it beats a 4 wheeler.
TFL needs to run that off road course everyday for one hour a day. I'll bet the transmission wouldn't last a month. Come on, TFL! Let's see if the Expedition can survive a mere 30 hours on your off road course.
We have had several Rangers over the last 14 years as farm/ranch vehicles and have never had one in the shop for anything but routine maintenance. FWIW
if you want to make these Polaris Expeditions AND Can-Am Defenders STREET LEGAL, I would lookup the videos made by Tooele Valley Motorsports who have some fantastic examples of work done to make these higher-end SxS'es truly ultra-intense 4x4 off-road capable AND fully street legal. Great work by them and TFL should do a review to show what can be done in the SxS world for street legal and more performance! V
Why would anyone spend that kind of money on one? I just don't get it. I'd take a lifted vehicle on 37s or 40s over this any day. If you are going to trailer your offroad vehicle anyways, why not get a proper Jeep or Toyota that has been built?

The suspension flex is surprisingly bad😮 There's plenty of space inside the wheel arches to accomodate a nice rock crawler almost 90° flex, but it actually behaves closer to Dakar rally trucks with barely any suspension flexing

Got the cash, by all means, indulge yourself in something that will plummet in value immediately after you buy it. The sense of value is fading from the human....
Polaris isn't any different than Can-Am or anyone else. A Defender is 50k+ for the same setup. People aren't buying the equivalent of two Toyota Camrys if they can't afford to. Why use low range when you are driving on pretty normal off road terrain?. That thing sounds like it's gonna explode and 'stinky' likely means you are destroying tha belt. Nice you didnt have to pay for it.
Seems very capable, but that CVT mortorboating drone sounds pretty bad and only gets more annoying as it continues. The helmet must help the driver endure it.

After owning a brand new sportsman and ranger I would recommend to never buy anything polaris. They ride really smooth when they work but are unreliable and lack quality.
What if you already have a 4x4 truck, or 2.. and you don't want 3. Instead, you want a vehicle that can take you farther, and it can also run 45 mph down a logging road into the woods with all your gear for weekend

Nothing wrong with the CVT, plenty of people can go 3k before changing a belt which is %40 longer than a Nissan CVT haha
