The intros get better and better in their dry humor, as do parts of your full video; love it! And love the good news in this one. Happy for chimps who get rescued. I've tried the Beyond with avocado oil, and really prefer it because it's not as . . . tallowy as the one with coconut oil. I have seen the Armored Fresh sliced cheese locally but have never bought it, and after the lurid PR photo of it at 15:41, feel even less prone to trying it. As for Krispy Kreme, yet another reason to move to the UK, and, like you, I'm not a big donut fan. The news about school lunches and prison food is probably the most important, honestly. Baby steps toward the 21st century, 'murica! [eye roll] Thanks for posting 🙂
"Lurid" as a descriptor of that photo has me cackling, and I thought maybe I was being too harsh 🤣 To be fair to them, the product shots on their website look much more appetizing. And yes, there's a hostility toward veganism in the US that seems so much more muted in the UK (even though we know it's there). Thankfully it seems a select group of "usual suspect" Democrats (Jamie Raskin, AOC, et al) are intent on changing that 🇺🇸
Meanwhile the vegan population is lower than 1%, vegan restaurants are closing rapidly, and meat sales are rising. You are wining at making more ppl ex vegan.
I am surprised the USDA is even considering allowing more plant based options. That is definitely a good start. With Crispy cream doughnuts, it's sad to see once again America falls behind.
Yes! I loved the original glazed Krispy Kreme. It was perfect in its simplicity. And interesting, I had always thought of Voodoo as a PNW thing but looking at their website I see they have expanded a ton!
8:28 that's because I emailed them about this issue and they said they'll focus on it. They really took my email to heart to redo their products. Makes me super happy and proud (even though I personally didn't mind the unhealthiness of their products - because it's supposed to be that way - it's others that want better - so it's to appease the masses at my sake to bring the nutritional qualm to their attention - which I did!).
As always, thanks for the positive update(s)! The new USDA guidelines for vegan options in schools, as well as lawmakers pushing for plant based-meals in prison are both very encouraging to hear! Regarding doughnuts, I must admit, before going vegan, I wasn't above a spontaneous Krispy Kreme run on rare occasion. Lol Unfortunately, as you mention, the conspiracy to deny us pleasure here in the US continues on. Grrr...Sooo frustrating!! 😬It's seemingly almost blatant, at this point.
Let's be honest: Krispy Kreme donuts blow Dunkin's out of the water! (and I say this as a born and raised New Englander in a family of Massholes [affectionate]) And yes, as a vegan in the US, we are spoiled in some ways (great products and innovation), but we aren't really allowed to be "spontaneous" or "casual" when it comes to eating out.
5:47 The prize for the Dole Great American Banana Challenge was made by Wildcat Championship Belts. I hope the organizers took the faux-leather option. 🤞 (I prefer to call it synthetic leather or just leather, but faux-leather is their word.)
Beyond meat was originally the final nudge that made me move from a very meat heavy diet to a pesco-vegetarian diet some three years ago - it helped me wean myself off of the meat products I was previously eating. I gradually ate less fish, and became more of a vegetarian who indulged on fish maybe once a month, or every other month. Last Easter, I changed my diet to be healthier, by adding legumes to at least one meal a day, and it was a game-changer. I suddenly had no more cravings for cheese, and found my diet drifting towards a fully plant based diet. Now maybe 95% of what I eat is (healthy) vegan, and that remaining 5% the occasional non-vegan dairy treat. Though even with the occasional treats, I tend to opt for a vegan option if is available. I'm no longer really that attracted by fake meats. I rarely use them. Beans and lentils are my major protein source nowadays. I love lentils, especially! I've experienced significant health benefits from this change - my cholesterol plummeted, I'm at a healthy weight now, and my blood pressure went from "almost too high" to optimal values. I'm still all for development in plant based fake meats - I probably wouldn't have ended up in this diet if I didn't have Beyond Meat as a "gate way drug".
Lol. You are making things up. Beyond meat is gross. You was never on a heavy meat diet. No sone person would eat that gross garbage, than healthy and delicious meat.
I’ve been thinking a lot about prisoners and how unfair it is that they are forced to participate in a system of oppression that maybe they just don’t want to be part of. Happy to hear that that will slowly change
Great video as always!! I'm excited to hear about the school lunch changes. My mother has worked on and off in school cafeterias (in CT!) and the descriptions from this last school year were so gross. Trix yogurt, dairy milk, and cheese sticks were all served together and most kids would throw them out. She did meet a vegan fourth grader though who was very vocal about animal rights which was great to see!
Omg, love hearing about that little fourth grader--bless them! 🥺 That's really interesting insight--and omg, Trix yogurt unlocked a cursed memory 😖 I just can't believe we are (attempting to) feed these things to children; it's actually sickening. It will be interesting to see if/how these new guidelines are implemented; it seems like it will be very much case by case and depending on the people in charge of each school's food program.
