My favorite part of the soft lock picking series is always the convoluted solution to the trap, so it was a little disappointing to hear there was no such solution to this one. Nevertheless, loved the video, please keep it up!
@@ryanong7049 Well all set up videos usually exclude external games to help fix your softlock. Jirachi requires you owning either an NTSC copy of Pokemon Colosseum or an Pal Version of Pokemon Channel. Following the rules of this series, the only way to break the lock is to just reset the game.

I don't care if this is an official challenge or not: I'm throwing my hat in the ring. You'd need to do some extra set up, but I've discovered a way to break this soft lock. If any of you want to know, here it is: WARNING: LONG POST BELOW Pokemon Box was a game for the GameCube that let you store up to 1,500 Pokemon on the GameCube's memory card by transferring them over via the GameCube/GBA link cable. It also (and this is the important part) allows you to withdraw those Pokemon on another cartridge entirely. I've done some research, and as far as I can tell, you don't need multiple Pokemon or access to the trade center to be able to transfer in Pokemon. If you soft lock yourself, you can always transfer in a Pokemon with fly from another game, even if you've exhausted all other possibilities. There are a few caveats, however. You need to be able to access the storage system to be able to withdraw the Pokemon you transferred in, but since blacking out always sends you to the Pokemon Center (or to Littleroot Town, in which case you can just walk to Oldale Town's Pokemon Center), this shouldn't be an issue no matter where you are in the game. A much more relevant issue is the restrictions that Pokemon Box itself places on transferring Pokemon. Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire can send Pokemon to Pokemon Box as soon as they get the Pokedex at the start of the game, but to even connect to Pokemon Box in FireRed, LeafGreen, and Emerald, you need to beat the game first. Additionally, while you can deposit and withdraw your own Pokemon to your heart's content once you fulfill these conditions, withdrawing Pokemon that somebody else deposited (the important part for breaking this soft lock) requires you to have 100 Pokemon registered as "caught" in the Pokedex (this restriction applies to all Gen III Pokemon games). Admittedly, the way Pikasprey set up this softlock prevents this from being an option, but if, say, we traded 100 different Pokemon into the new Pokemon Sapphire save file one by one before setting up this soft lock, escape would be trivial. Of course, this is something only an insane person would do, but in all fairness, so is soft locking yourself in the first place. And in the end, it's really about the principle more than anything. After all, Pikasprey never _said_ it was against the rules of this soft lock, did he? TL;DR: Pokemon Box essentially prevents you from soft locking yourself in any Gen III Pokemon game, but only as long as you have more than 100 Pokemon registered in the Pokedex.
Can't decide which is more impressive; getting softlocked on the first youngster, or the overleveled traded Pokemon that listens to its trainer five turns in a row (4:51-5:20)

@@pokepress cause it is a Total different game. 2 games of the same copy does not really count as a external game imo. Even though technically it is a external safe file, he could had done the same in any other town cause shedjinja can't learn any of the HM I think. But he wanted it to be as soon as possible in the game.
Not really, it depends on the player. I, frankly, couldn't give two shits about shiny pokemon since the only thing different is the color scheme. Sure, if I saw one i would catch it, but if it's softlocking me? Hell naw, the bitch gotta go.
Pretty sure Pika said in a video that unless he brings it up, you should consider outside event Pokémon banned. Since the softlock is meant to lock you in one game and one game alone.
No, the GER user was the first game that traded the second game the Shedinja. Calvin's the confused child in the field and the Shedinja Trainer is the broken, traumatised Diavolo. shouting at the child to stay away from him, in fear that interacting with them might lead to another death.
@@iMORTIsieteVOi Actually your fucking stupid, shedinja can be leech seeded since wonderguard does not make it immune to any status moves. If you are going to pedantic atleast be correct.
I legit do not understand those asking about Struggle. Struggle does recoil damage, so doesn't matter who uses it, Shedinja will faint. Even if you didn't think of this, Pikasprey literally mentioned it in the video. Stupidity like this baffles me
Its insane how you were helping out tons of youtube channels with your „can i beat“ series man. This series just got me into your channel tho! Keep up the great work its always a pleasure to watch. 👌🏼
It is true that if Youngster Joey and the player were to switch places, both would be just as screwed, except that now the player could grind for XP and probably eventually find a move to surpass wonder guard
How? If the Shedinja is an opponent and can't do damage, it'll kill itself with struggle eventually. If you can't damage it traditionally, eventually you'll be able to hit it with your own struggle. Wouldn't be a lock if it's only the opponent with Shedinja.
Based Pikasprey. I have no idea how many times I have watched your softlock picking videos already but it's gotta be at least 10 times for each one. I assume you will eventually run out of possible soft locks or they become very simmilar. Anyway, I hope you still have some stuff left to cover because it is brilliant. It's also amazing how you never beg for people to subscribe or anything like that.
By the "well known stuff" were you referring to the Japanese exclusive softlock, the "Oak's Parcel Glitch"? If not, I would love to see a video on it, as is it the only softlock in Pokemon that can happen by (almost) complete accident. It was a common enough occurence that the translation team parched it out! In case you don't know, here are the steps to do it. Step 1: On a Japanese cart (version doesn't matter), evolve your starter before turning in Oak's parcel. Step 2: *There is no Step 2.* The softlocks you cover usually have a setup to limit options, but this one holds nothing back. With the only condition being "evolve your starter before turning in Oak's Parcel", is there any way at any point to make progress from this game shattering glitch?
you can actually do it on international releases of yellow as it was not fixed there the tricky part is to get another pokemon to evolve but it's not impossible
you can do the same thing the speedrun does: Quitting the game at a very specific time during saving, thus corrupting the memory. Then you can do some wonky stuff in the item menu, leave oaks lab and teleport directly to the hall of fame. Technically, this is possible everywhere in the game, so you can theoretically escape every single gen 1 softlock.
@@Wuerschtle Save Corruption requires a New Game to work. The glitch merges 2 saves together. (I'm not even sure why it's considered a glitch, there isn't really any way to fix it) If you have no save, the entire SRAM will be filled with 0xFF, which, when you use the glitch, results in all the effects you're thinking of. But to do that, you need no save, which involves deleting the save file. You CAN use the glitch to escape a softlock, by timing so that it saves your location but not your party, and then you'll be back at Pallet Town. But it still requires starting a New Game, and your previous party will now be disobedient as well (due to a different OT)

I wanna ask something. How do you always know that at least I am wat ging this at night just before i sleep. anyways, i love he soft lock picking series that are in Pokémon! Really love your videos!
The problem with soft locking while event cartridges (and ROM dumps) exist, is that the English Aura Mew cartridge works with all non Japanese versions of the gen 3 games and allows infinite transfers. This should always work, if you saved in a Pokémon Center. To make it extremely hard to escape this soft lock, you should use a Japanese game (or ROM), because Japanese distribution cartridges are extremely hard (and expensive) to get and those ROM dumps are nearly impossible to find.

@@pokepress cause it is a Total different game. 2 games of the same copy does not really count as a external game imo. Even though technically it is a external safe file, he could had done the same in any other town cause shedjinja can't learn any of the HM I think. The most elegant softlock yet! Somehow fitting that it's with a Bug/Ghost type. :)
If you want to make it even more painful, you can shiny hunt for your Nincada so the player will feel too guilty to reset a save with a shiny Shedinja
Not really, it depends on the player. I, frankly, couldn't give two shits about shiny pokemon since the only thing different is the color scheme. Sure, if I saw one i would catch it, but if it's softlocking me? Hell naw, the bitch gotta go.
most people by now have gotten a shiny pokemon already, and unless they really love shedinja's shiny, they might not care lol

The one thing you forgot (I think) was the Colosseum bonus disc, where you can get a Jirachi
Does it work that early? I know for the Pokémon Channel Jirachi you had to have beaten the League
Just get it and release it like in the other videos.
I was going to say this, and I’m glad someone else did. Couldn’t you take them from colosseum too?
Pretty sure Pika said in a video that unless he brings it up, you should consider outside event Pokémon banned. Since the softlock is meant to lock you in one game and one game alone.
@@MuchWhittering Colosseum Jirachi only requires you to have the Pokédex.
Shedinja has always been one of my favorites.

Trainer Calvin used Golden Experience Requiem on the player
No, the GER user was the first game that traded the second game the Shedinja. Calvin's the confused child in the field and the Shedinja Trainer is the broken, traumatised Diavolo. shouting at the child to stay away from him, in fear that interacting with them might lead to another death.
I love the softlock videos you do, it is fun to ruin a save file. Keep up the good work.
I'm shocked that this is the first softlock that Pikasprey hasn't actually found an obscenely ridiculous way to get out!

I legit do not understand those asking about Struggle. Struggle does recoil damage, so doesn't matter who uses it, Shedinja will faint. Even if you didn't think of this, Pikasprey literally mentioned it in the video. Stupidity like this baffles me

"I'm talking about crafting something so ridiculous that nobody would ever think to go through with it"
That's like, this channel's motto XD
Having to fight a forced encounter against a Shedninja could potentially cause a softlock, if you think about it...
Struggle still kills you
It is true that if Youngster Joey and the player were to switch places, both would be just as screwed, except that now the player could grind for XP and probably eventually find a move to surpass wonder guard
How? If the Shedinja is an opponent and can't do damage, it'll kill itself with struggle eventually. If you can't damage it traditionally, eventually you'll be able to hit it with your own struggle. Wouldn't be a lock if it's only the opponent with Shedinja.
Unless he has false swipe and gets you down to 1 HP by the time struggle comes into play

Youngster Calvin after battling for the 58th time: I have never seen this man before in my entire life
Same with most elite 4 members.
Step 2: *There is no Step 2.*
The softlocks you cover usually have a setup to limit options, but this one holds nothing back.
With the only condition being "evolve your starter before turning in Oak's Parcel", is there any way at any point to make progress from this game shattering glitch?
I’m sure the speedrun has some glitch that would work but without glitches maybe
fail
you can actually do it on international releases of yellow as it was not fixed there
the tricky part is to get another pokemon to evolve but it's not impossible
you can do the same thing the speedrun does: Quitting the game at a very specific time during saving, thus corrupting the memory.
(I'm not even sure why it's considered a glitch, there isn't really any way to fix it)
If you have no save, the entire SRAM will be filled with 0xFF, which, when you use the glitch, results in all the effects you're thinking of.

Yes! I haven’t been this excited about a UA-cam video in a while
The problem with soft locking while event cartridges (and ROM dumps) exist, is that the English Aura Mew cartridge works with all non Japanese versions of the gen 3 games and allows infinite transfers.
This should always work, if you saved in a Pokémon Center.
To make it extremely hard to escape this soft lock, you should use a Japanese game (or ROM), because Japanese distribution cartridges are extremely hard (and expensive) to get and those ROM dumps are nearly impossible to find.
