  • Here's the Master-Grade 1/100 scale Gundam F91 Version 2.0. A very solid MG kit checking all the boxes. The gimmicks however, which are usually the icing on the cake, are where this kit kind of falters a bit.

    funny that the F91's face open gimmick looks uncannily humanoid which unintentionally creeps some people out while the Crossbone Gundam's face open is intentionally made to look horrifyingly menacing as it looks almost like its an open mouth with rows of sharp (glowing) teeth to the point in some of the manga panels it was used as a jump scare to the enemy pilots.

    I've always been really big into the sleeker surface detail and grills everywhere on the F91. I feel like it gives it a nice "muscle car" aesthetic.

      in games like gundam vs gundam, the extra beam shield can be also used as booby-trap since it just floats in mid-air after tossing.... a very obselete attack tbh....

      Unless wiki is lying to me, it was supposed to be a 50 something episode series, but then it got cut to like 6 OVA's, then cut again to one movie. With the way they're treating Unicorn Gundam as the new "main UC series" starting point as well as retelling Gundam in the Origin movies, maybe they'll make a F91 series like it originally supposed to be.

    You did not bend the knee as far as it would go, it goes farther. You pull on the leg and a swinging joint comes out allowing extra room for the leg to bend. Why is everyone missing that? lol

    • @longproton
      @longproton 6 років тому +7

      Have you built this kit? Because you pointed out a thing which really affects my decision on buying it.
      This guy pointed that out too, but I just need some confirmation since his channel is not very big.
      Here's the clip: ua-cam.com/video/ukmBVdu6Chc/v-deo.htmlm38s

    • @ORLY911
      @ORLY911 6 років тому +7

      Yup I bought it, and loved it. One of my favorite master grades to be honest. One of the best out of box looking kits IMO (with panel lining). And yeah, whenI get home tomorrow I could take a pic for you for how far the knee can go (and the mechanism at work), But yeah the knee bend is not as bad as everyone says, you just need to pull out a swing joint to get it :P Which is a fine compromise for the sweet opening vent gimmick in the calfs.
      As Zaku said, it has very small parts, I lost one vulcan to the alternate head(no big deal, heh) so be ready for that. and if you want an LED for it, personally I'd say either make your own or get some here: www.modeltrainsoftware.com/collections/hobby-leds Cheaper and more discreet than the huge block they give you for the official one (and the light would look WAY better blue)

    As someone who has both the original and this F91 I can honestly say that the best and biggest improvements for this kit were in the lower half. The legs of the original F91 got reused for all the MG crossbones so they're both very basic and not exactly sturdy.
    (I'm definitely modding the LED stand part onto the Rafflesia though.)

    The original MG F91 kit was made of a lot of ABS parts. The lower legs in particular were very slim so dropping this kit can sometimes break the legs. It's one of the reasons the MG Crossbone has a more robust inner leg.

    I think the part separation of this kit is great, but it’s for very small details and it was a pain to build. The two guns from the back are also finicky to get a good pose on. Also the v-fins are prone to fall off so I recommend just glue them on.

    Waiting for that Harrison Martin PB variant to get this, but I never noticed the shape of the chest/waist before and its actually really cool from that angle. I think reading Gundam Crossbone made me appreciate the F91 and its gimmicks more.

    Funnily enough the 1.0 has a transforming head gimmick that works differently but results in the entire upper half of the head coming off a lot more than it should so in every way, the new transforming head looks much better and more solid. Even the Metal build has that nasty seem line down its face. I sure as hell plan on buying this at some point as I absolutely love the Gundam F91.

    I guess I'm going to have to raise my hand and say I like the transforming head. Same reason I like transforming the MG unicorn it's just a fun play feature and in this case it's optional. The stand looks a little rubbish though. Also looking at the LED's I really wonder if it would be easier to just make your own from some hobby story stuff and watch batteries?

    • @ascensionindustries9631
      @ascensionindustries9631 6 років тому +1

      Its not quite easier but its cheaper. I put blue LEDs in an action base for a MG Vidar. It has two lights and a built on battery pack. All was less than $10 and I still have stuff left over. I used Ebay to get parts from China and they are super cheap. $4 for 10 lights, $2 for 10 batteries, $2 for a battery back, and just a few bucks for wire. Anything Bandai sells with an LED can be built cheaper.

  • @cadsux
    @cadsux 6 років тому

    For a bigger size, Bandai made the 1/60 F91, which was part toy, part model kit. It was 10 inches tall, so it was just a head shorter than the 1/60 scale original RX-78 Gundam!

  • @cadsux
    @cadsux 6 років тому

    Bandai started "half sizing" with the F90 Gundam. The 1990 1/144 scale kit used the same size box as the 1988 1/100 scale RX-93 Nu Gundam. That larger box held accessories to build 3 versions, including a "Guncannon". Bandai later made 3 other separate versions: F90-P (wave rider), F90 II-L (ship destroyer), & the F90-V (predecessor to F91).

    • @cadsux
      @cadsux 6 років тому

      F90Y was a more retooled version with a core-fighter.

  • @OtonashiV
    @OtonashiV 6 років тому +2

    The point of the transforming head is that it faithfully replicates how it transformed in the movie. Bandai wanted to show that they can. No Unicorn kit has faithfully recreated its head transformation yet, but I don't think anyone cares lol

  • @VaxisD

    i own this kit and i have to say the only parts that have a prob with me is that the butterfly joint in the arms are a hard plastic and mine broke off (and no additional parts for it), luckly cement or super glue can fix the job but its brittle
    legs can bend way further than that but when they do they kinda have to shoved back into place for the legs to go straight again
    (this is prolly my kit in particular but) the bazooka mounting on the back skirt DOES NOT like to connect it and stay and the arm on the left side pops off the shoulder joint.
    other than that, its a seriously beautiful kit and the only area you really "need" panel lining is the face cause the rest of it looks amazing and id only recommend to people if they like the f91 and can deal with tiny parts that you have to snap into place vs peg on

      @fantastiCkiLler92 6 років тому

      That's the main feature of the F91, and the old one does transform but in different way. Nowadays people asking a lot for bandai and you definitely can see that. I don't care that head either but I see some people really like that extra transforming head so it's not a completely trash. Plus the Metal Build also has the exact same thing going on with the head.

    Zaku you can pull the foot down further but it is tight. The second shield was used where he threw it and shot it to blow it up. Also the thighs have a problem where it splits at the top thats because of some plastic on the inside piece thats supposed to sit on top of the hip joint is too big so just snip it off or sand it down and it should be just fine.

    • @dantimmerman6693
      @dantimmerman6693 6 років тому

      ConvictedSauces the trick is pushing the piece the ball joint snaps into further into the upper leg. I had this issue at first. I took off the armor and noticed a gap between the grey parts and it snapped in deeper. No more armor separation!

    I'm kind of confused with the legs. Everything else is solid and I adore it, but the legs.. Seem pretty eh. Shallow bend, toes can't go back. Honestly everything else on it is fantastic, so I don't see why the legs didn't get that extra bit of attention to move possible poses better.

    • @ZakuAurelius
      @ZakuAurelius  6 років тому +1

      Actually, despite their kinda lack-luster articulation I think the legs look quite nice. while building the kit it wasn't until I built the legs that I really started to like it.

      According to this guy, F91 has 3 joints at the knee section. Can you confim this ZakuAurelius?
      And he points out some very good point about the toes bend too

      Well first and foremost I never said the legs looked bad. I just said the design choice for articulation seemed lackluster, compared to the rest of the suit. As a whole the 2.0 looks great, though in a way I don't really see why we needed a 2.0 F91, but I'm not going to deny how the suit looks. So let's just clear that up right here.
      Though Kim Long pointed out something I haven't seen any of the reviewers I've watched push on, and that's the addition of a pull out joint for the leg. Which entirely changes that prospective for me. That makes it look a lot better, but I'm confused as to why the 2-3 guys I've watched never even mentioned it. Slackers!

    • @longproton
      @longproton 6 років тому

      Yeah, me too. I have watched like 3 reviewers talking how bad the legs are and that Dadee guy just came out of nowhere, changed my perspective.
      Now, all I need is some confirmation, if it's so, I may consider buying this kit.

    Parts-forming is annoying because of the extra parts you more often than not have no clean way to store on the completed kit itself (not every kit comes with a storage-capable stand after all).

    Metal build's transforming head was engineered league better than this and came out a year before it, it is even anime accurate because you don't even need to open up the sides to retract the face plate(The option is there but it is so smooth so you don't have to)
