    Thanks for sharing this. I race in a real BMW 116 in the UK. To practice, I've been doing some Assetto Corsa online races in an MX-5. The most popular track is Leguna Seca; a track I've never driven. This guide was ideal.

    I got busted for 94dB in a 92 limit PCA event. Had to short shift to 4th coming out of T5 to keep the revs down. Gave the guys in the beige hut the stink eye every lap after that.
    Very smooth with your inputs. Good job. Many times my students turn in too early, so I tell them "wait, wait, wait". They tell me yrs later they still hear me saying that.

    Years after the fact, his words reverberate in my head when I drive that track. I ultimately got down to a 1:44 lap and that is considered exceptionally quick for a Honda of my build. This info is probably the best someone will find about driving Laguna. You always know when you pull on someone if they understand the core content of what it takes to be quick here. That info is laid bare right here.

      If you don't mind what Honda is it? I would like to make your build in Gran Turismo 7 to some what experience it. if you can give me the full specs I could try to recreate it. Is always been one of my dreams to be a race driver, life just keeps throwing curves at me and is become impossible for me to fulfill them. GT7 is and outlet for me I know it sounds stupid but it works for me.

    Your instructor put you on a really great line, I love Laguna such a fun track! I have a valved exhaust but my instructor had me keep it on the low setting so I didn't have to mess with it or worry about the black flag. He also had me do the whole track in 3rd and 4th (except 11) in the Boxster S to keep it simple. Great drive!!

      Yeah, instructor nailed it! I've since had a number of glorious sessions in my 987.2 based Sypder. Any of the 987 are an absolute blast at that track. However, I've chosen to relegate mine to garage queen status, gotten too valuable.

      @@dvmartel1 ahh a Spyder very nice I get that ... yes I'm in relatively cheap so I get to daily driveway 987.1. After my first full day of 4 sessions my brakes were gone luckily I was way ahead of everyone and made it in without incident . Added 635º high temp B fluid, ss lines and GT3 ducts. My Indy shop here said "learn your line and do swaybars and tires before power mods so I'm adding Tarret Industies swaybars and adjustable end links soon for my DE at Buttonwillow 12/10. “Racing makes heroin addiction look like a vague wish for something salty.” - Peter Egan Cheers

      @@EDavidM100PFC compound 11 brake pads and a set of Nitto NT01 are an absolutely fantastic combination for your car seeing track time. Great pads and near r-comp level tire grip, it will blow your mind. Having moved on to a competition license, I get within 1.xx seconds of Toyo RR during lapping days practice with my NASA Spec Miata.

      @@dvmartel1 oh thanks for that ... I am running Michelin 4S street and track on 18" which I was very comfortable with but at some point I'll find a spare set of wheels for some Toyo R888R's so I can drive to the track and race them which would be so convenient. Any other tire suggestions? any experience with full race tires? The guys in the Central Coast PCA Club do talk a lot about tires some are running the RR's the rest are on Cup 2's. Thanks I appreciate your input.

    • @dvmartel1
      @dvmartel1  Рік тому +1

      @@EDavidM100 I have M Pilot 4S for street use, love them. But on track, NT01 will own anyone near you on 4S. On track, near its adhesion limits, within five laps, the 4S will oversteer/ get loose during turn in, trail braking and particularly on throttle/track out acceleration by comparison to NT01. 4S slide, they let go, they won't hold grip. NT01 are far superior, do not oversteer, fight for grip, are consistent all day long and much more fun and allow you to explore limits much more safely.

      "end of the berm..." the late entry / apex was key to gaining confidence and speed. be patient, don't drive the line of the guy in front of you. use all the track out.

      It is a race car with a race motor and exhaust (resonator and a Flowmaster). The intake shriek is part of this Honda's B16A d.b. issue at wot and 9000rpm. The sound booth/ station is just after T5 on the right side, quite visible. You can lift throttle slightly. Most exhausts are re-angled / redirected to the left (driver side).

    Good, it is almost unheard of to get an audio over from an actual hired gun instructor. I left the track that day putting down 1:50's in my B16a Civic Si. I will always hear him say "....very end of the berm..." as he correctly drilled me on late apexing most of the turns. Unfortunate that I got black flagged for sound right off the bat. It upset the flow of the track.

    Looks like Gran Turismo Sport is not a real driving simulator. In the game, you can cut the corkscrew with 2 wheels. In real-life racing you can't cut with 2 wheels. Thanks for introducing me the real driving simulator! Great video! PS. I searched Laguna Seca because I had Manufacturer Cup race on Wednesday.

    When I was there a few years ago, I was told not to drive on the berm because there are some rough spots that can damage your car. One of my friends did break his strut on a berm that day. Was something different in 2014?

    • @dvmartel1
      @dvmartel1  6 років тому

      I am unaware of any such hazard. I'm a little more experienced of a driver now, SCCA and NASA competition lic, and have not seen anything at Laguna when used correctly that would cause damage. The track out generally includes touching or running onto the berms in almost every turn. But we are talking about smoothly using them, not bashing into the highest part at speed, missing them and smacking a rain rut or ravine after blowing out of a turn into dirt. If you don't use those berms, you are going to add seconds to your lap and others are going to absolutely blow by.

    • @SoCalVipers
      @SoCalVipers 6 років тому

      My friend is an amateur/hobby driver. Maybe he just hit something too hard. Now that you are more experienced, would you say this is still a the best way around the track? I'll be there on Monday!

    • @dvmartel1
      @dvmartel1  6 років тому

      Yes, I was just there in a Boxster Spyder on the Jul 6. There have been improvements to all important track outs. Concentrate on being patient, give yourself time to develop a feel of the flow and rhythm of the track. The speed will come to you. If you are in a Viper, be extremely careful into T11. The entry is slower than you think, be patient into apex and do NOT stomp throttle on exit until that figgin missle is aimed straight or you will find Mr. Wall before you know what happened.
