Not knowing what Brake Knockback is nearly put me into a wall at Sonoma this past weekend. The NASCAR track layout has a wicked berm that kicks the free floating pads off the rotors. Learned that I had to nudge the brakes with my left foot after a berm like that to solve the problem.
Denso Plug Failure

THESE ARE NOT eBay knock-offs, my race mechanic looked at them. Locally purchased in Northern California. Two fresh Denso Iridium Plugs fail. Ceramic insulator became loose, causing misfire, loss of pressure and possible engine damage due to pieces of ceramic plug falling into cylinder. Google "DENSO Iridium Failure" read other identical situations.

Very smooth with your inputs. Good job. Many times my students turn in too early, so I tell them "wait, wait, wait". They tell me yrs later they still hear me saying that.

      @@EDavidM100 I have M Pilot 4S for street use, love them. But on track, NT01 will own anyone near you on 4S. On track, near its adhesion limits, within five laps, the 4S will oversteer/ get loose during turn in, trail braking and particularly on throttle/track out acceleration by comparison to NT01. 4S slide, they let go, they won't hold grip. NT01 are far superior, do not oversteer, fight for grip, are consistent all day long and much more fun and allow you to explore limits much more safely.

      Interesting question, the splitter mounting brackets and 3/8th fiberglassed plywood withstood the impact and scrapping long enough to keep the wheel contained within the wheel well. But yeah, at the entry to T7 there are enough bumps that the front of the car bounced enough for the wheel to escape at a much slower speed, sorta rolling / bouncing about thirty feet into a k-wall and stopped. Those were APR wheel studs. Never before and never since have I had a failure.

    When I was there a few years ago, I was told not to drive on the berm because there are some rough spots that can damage your car. One of my friends did break his strut on a berm that day. Was something different in 2014?

    • @dvmartel1
      @dvmartel1 6 років тому

      I am unaware of any such hazard. I'm a little more experienced of a driver now, SCCA and NASA competition lic, and have not seen anything at Laguna when used correctly that would cause damage. The track out generally includes touching or running onto the berms in almost every turn. But we are talking about smoothly using them, not bashing into the highest part at speed, missing them and smacking a rain rut or ravine after blowing out of a turn into dirt. If you don't use those berms, you are going to add seconds to your lap and others are going to absolutely blow by.

      Yes, I was just there in a Boxster Spyder on the Jul 6. There have been improvements to all important track outs. Concentrate on being patient, give yourself time to develop a feel of the flow and rhythm of the track. The speed will come to you. If you are in a Viper, be extremely careful into T11. The entry is slower than you think, be patient into apex and do NOT stomp throttle on exit until that figgin missle is aimed straight or you will find Mr. Wall before you know what happened.

      @ +Rasheem Hakkhmann ok, there are knockoffs. But is it obvious in the video that this is not a knock off. And I still have some of the failed plugs and all of them are genuine Denso.

    Years after the fact, his words reverberate in my head when I drive that track. I ultimately got down to a 1:44 lap and that is considered exceptionally quick for a Honda of my build. This info is probably the best someone will find about driving Laguna. You always know when you pull on someone if they understand the core content of what it takes to be quick here. That info is laid bare right here.

      Built and raced your own Honda race car - very cool. Thanks for the instruction.

      If you don't mind what Honda is it? I would like to make your build in Gran Turismo 7 to some what experience it. if you can give me the full specs I could try to recreate it. Is always been one of my dreams to be a race driver, life just keeps throwing curves at me and is become impossible for me to fulfill them. GT7 is and outlet for me I know it sounds stupid but it works for me.
