I just wanted to say you are good at sew alongside! You explained this method better than the others I watched and I just wanted to say thank you! BYW I’m a slow sewer to.
You are welcome. I am happy you found it helpful and truly appreciate you watching. Nothing is wrong with taking your time to projects. We all have our own way of doing things. Happy sewing!
Just found your channel. I love watching you sew. Am in the process of settling into our summer/fall cottage and can’t wait to get out the sewing machine. You are an inspiration!
Lynn, thank you for watching, and I am happy you found the channel. I appreciate that you like the content, and I, too, would be excited to get out my mac8to sew😀
Thanks so much for remembering to show how you learned the way of ''gathering'' the sleeve head! I really appreciate that you took the time to teach that. I love watching your videos. You have helped so much. I am about to try Vogue 8772 for the first time, and if that weren't intimidating me enough, I am going to attempt a concealed button placket on it. I hope you enjoy doing the videos as much as we love watching them. Sew alongs are so time consuming for you, so thank you again. Cheers!
Hello Maria. I am encouraged that my videos have motivated and helped with your sewing. I am truly humbled and appreciative of the time taken to watch them. Please keep sewing and it gets better with practice as I am still learning as well.
Hi Karen, I absolutely love your sewing. I’m a slow sewer also. I bought S1538 this past weekend after watching your sewing along for it. All of your garments are so beautiful! Keep the sew alongs coming. Great video! ❤
Beautiful! I bought this pattern yesterday because I’ve seen your other videos with this shirt in them. You do such beautiful work! I can’t wait to make one. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for this excellent tutorial. I have admired ALL of the shirts you have made from this pattern! I'll probably try it soon. I'm getting back to sewing after decades have passed.
Hello Susan. I am happy this was useful, and I appreciate your time and kind feedback. Thank you so much as this pattern has been one of my most used options. Back to sewing for such a long time is truly a change; however, I hope it's an experience that brings joy.
Hello Karon, hope you’re having an enjoyable Memorial Day wknd. Your video is Great! I have that pattern, I need to find it in my stash of patterns and look in my big fabric stash too and hopefully I can follow your video. You sew so neat and make sure every seam is right I sew that way too. I’m a slow sewer I think it’s called. Tomcat Stitchery has a great video for shirttail hems (I think )that uses bias tape along the edge so when you get to a curve the bias tape eases those pesky curves in so nice. I’ve never tried it yet!) it. She’s an excellent sewist too in the Indianapolis area. She had a shirt making class too last fall. Just some other things I know,,, just need to implement them! Happy sewing and make us some more videos, even when I don’t have enough stamina yet, recovering from knee surgery I love lobe love watching your wonderful makes. Gorgeous! Happy sewing!!! Nancy from Ft Wayne
Hi Nancy. I am happy you are recovering well, and I hope you will be able to resume your hobby soon. Yes, I slow slowly and try to enjoy the process. Yes, I have used bias tape on the hem of a few of my dress patterns and love it. It gives a clean finish and adds weight to the hem in fabric that needs it, such as poplin. I also watch Tom Kat Stichery .
What a great tutorial, Karon. I'm about to make this pattern for the first time so it was good to watch. I haven't made a shirt in many years. Your attention to detail is unparalleled. I loved hearing the crispness of the fabric as you sewed. I learned a tip from Nancy Zieman you might like; when sewing the collar pieces together, she goes off the fabric in each direction instead of pivoting at the corner. It gives a crisper point which I think you would like. I'm excited to try my own shirt now. Thanks for the inspo. You are the queen of shirts!
Kathy, I am happy you found it helpful. Thank you so much for watching and sharing your feedback. Yes, I am aware of that method to sew the collar, but I am stuck in my habit😄 You are too kind... I appreciate you!!
Thanks Karon for the tutorial, you did an excellent job on explaining, you took your time in explaining very clearly it was easy to follow along, looking forward for the next tutorial, job well done. 👏🏼👏🏼
Beautiful work! Thanks so much for doing this sew along. I bought Simplicity 1538 so I can make this shirt. I’m going to do French seams too 🤗. Thanks again for sharing.
The dress is beautiful and you are wearing it nicely. I have the same fabric but in white. I am going to use the Love Notion Summer basic dress to make a copy of a maxi dress I have in my closet. I also need to find a material to line it with.
I made this shirt in a class at Joanna maybe 10 years ago. I don't think I can fit it anymore. I need to get the next size and make another. It's a good shirt. I really like your fabric.
Karon, Thank you so much I love all the shirts you make. I didn't catch which pieces you placed interfacing and loved the gathering part. Do you ever use just cotton or always poplin? 🎉🥳
I use suitable shirt fabric for my shirt making and not only poplin. I interfaced cuff, collar, and button placket. Those are shown in the video as well. Thank you for watching.
Karen. I have really enjoyed your videos especially the Simplicity 1538. I am making 2 shirts and all went fine until I got to the sleeve placket. I am following the pattern but can't make it work. Do you have a video on that subject?😢
Hi Karen, where did you get the placket? I have purchased this pattern but it does not have a placket. I struggled with the collar and the yoke my first try. i had so much trouble figuring out the yoke. Three tries later I finally got it right. My collar stand did not look like yours. I think I did something wrong but in the end I had a wearable but not perfect blouse. Thanks for the tutorial. You are a really good seamstress. I love your videos.
Hello Linda. Thank you for watching and sharing. Please note that your shirts will get much better with time and practice. I have made many shirts during my short sewing journey and gained experience and ruined many as well. The sleeve placket was taken from a mccalls shirt, or you can use Liesl Classic Shirt pattern as well. I will search for other patterns that have the placket and let you know.
@@cookeka also noticed in the instructions there's no step for adding on the front strip on the right side. Only instructions for the one on the left I'm so confused

You are so welcome! I am happy you liked the content. Once you have the basics of shirt, I believe you can sew them all.
Thank you Karen for the sew along! Great job! Looking forward to you doing more sew alongs.

I am looking forward to this, especially your seam finishes. Thank-you for sharing your time and talent.

The fabric was purchased from Mood Fabrics.com. Thank you.
Very good video, thank you!
You are welcome. Thank you
Hi Karon, great sew along. Could you please direct me to where you saw the sleeve head gathering method. thank you
Hi Frances, I am sorry. I can't remember where I saw the method. I shared it because I thought it was helpful. If I find it, I will advise.
Awesome. Many thanks

That's awesome. Yes, it is a great shirt pattern that would be a great staple in your wardrobe.
Love this video. I have started a shirt and this has helped me so much. But did I miss the sleeve placket? This has thrown me.
Hello, thanks for watching. I am happy this was helpful. No, you did not. I did not include the sew along for the house placket on the sleeve.

Thanks so much for the tutorial. I have a question maybe I missed it but what was seam allowance for each pass of sleeves to do the French seam ?
Hello, I don't measure, but it's an estimated quarter inch for the first seam, and the total would equal the usual 5/8
Karen. I have really enjoyed your videos especially the Simplicity 1538. I am making 2 shirts and all went fine until I got to the sleeve placket. I am following the pattern but can't make it work. Do you have a video on that subject?😢

will think about doing one soon.

Hello Helen. Thank you. Happy Labor Day to you as well.

What fabric did you use? 100% cotton? Quilting cotton?
I used a cotton poplin fabric. Thank you.
What does the pattern mean apply ribbon.? What ribbon? Number 39 on instructions
