Thank you so much for your careful & clear demonstration. I have been tearing my hair out trying to make sense of my patterns directions. You may have saved my life. Thank you again.
Thank you for making this into a seperate video. These mini tutorials are great every time I want to use the technique in a project. You could not have timed this one better. Right now hacking a shirt pattern into a big sleeved, tiered skirt shirtdress. Original pattern has shorter sleeves. Was about to look up how to put this kind of placket in the sleeves. Everything I need is here in one clear video; both pattern work and construction . 😽💕💕💕
I adore these How To videos! It’s so good to know that whenever I want to use this technique, I know where to find reliable handholding and clear instructions. ❤️
Thank you so very much! My pattern was wrong and told me to put wrong side to right side and it is just a mess. Made no sense. But your tutorial has made it so much easier...I think I can do this now!
Thank you so much for yet another superb and so useful tutorial. Tutorials are my favourite UA-cam videos - like going to sewing school in my armchair.
Brilliant, thank you! I'm just starting to sew my first button-up shirt, and the long-sleeve version has a continuous lap. It's a Burda pattern and all the instructions are a bit sparse, so it'll be good to have this tutorial to refer to.
This was so timely. My eldest kiddo has requested some 90's inspired flannel shirts and I could not for the life of me understand the directions for the lapped cuff in the Big 5 pattern I was using. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing. I have used that method for more years than I care to mention. Your process was very well done. It’s been awhile since I’ve done one, though
Excelent tutorial, I have attempted to do this in the past, however I failed to staighten the lap opening when attaching the facing and got into all sorts of problems. The written intructions were not clear, now I will be able to construct a continuous lap much neater and alot easier. Thanks Sianx
This was very helpful thank you! Just a quick note, it would be nice if the fabric wasn’t so patterned so that it is easier to distinguish the right side from the wrong and see the stitches. But all in all, it was very helpful!
Sian Thank you so much that was great video. Could you not put a tiny piece of interfacing just to help the point part. As you said that would be a weak spot. I am thinking of a tiny piece .
Going to give this a go today. However, the pattern I'm using has the split where the seam of the sleeve meet. Consequently, I've already french seamed said sleeve. I think I can still make it work though.
Thank you. This is helpful. Question/request... You always talk about reading the pattern instructions prior to starting. Would you please think about doing a video of you doing this and your thoughts on the instructions and how you decide how and what needs to be done differently and why.. To me most often the instructions are what messes me up the most. Thank you
Whenever I do a full sew-along I do talk through the instructions and why I'm either following them or ignoring them. For mini tutorials like this it's just about the specific technique. For instance (I mention it in the description) I don't like the finish you get when the cuff attaches to the sleeve with the underarm seam providing the opening which is why I decided to add the continuous lap to all the sleeves I've been making at the moment. I hope this helps 😊
@@KittenishBehaviourSian Thankyou. I got out a piece of scrap fabric and gave this a try. Worked like a charm. I will pay closer attention to your full sew-along
Hi Siân!! Excellent tutorial & thanks for breaking down the specifics.. The spot that you say is a weak spot, could you put a piece of interfacing there to help strengthen it?? 💜💜💜🧵🧵🧵
Thank you so much for sharing this easy to understand and follow video. Your video saved my sewing day!!!
Brilliant tutorial! I have struggled with this before. Now I think it makes sense... 🤞
Great video!! Love these minis - thank you Sian

Hi Sian! I just followed this tutorial, and it worked like a charm. Thank you very much for making it! Lynne :)
Brilliant
Very helpful! Thankyou 🙂
Came here for the sewing tutorial, left loving that we both knit the octopus sweater in the exact same colors 😊

You have the best ever fabric sense. I love the print.
Thanks so much for this! For the life of me, I couldn’t understand Vogue’s instructions!
This was so helpful. I could not figure out what the pattern was saying and I was so glad to find this. I am sure I will be using this again.
thankyou for the tutorial. x

Wow Siân you are just a perfect sewer! Perfect tutorial, this is how I learned to do this in the ‘70s ... yup I am old! LOL! Christine 🦊🇨🇦🦊
That was really useful thank you!

So helpful! I always struggle with that slight v-shape when stitching the continuous lap at ¼". You made it look easy. Thanks!
Thank you for that tutorial, particularly the closer view of what you were doing - very helpful
Thank you so much.I love your tutorials

Excellent tutorial
Thank you. That made a lot of sense. I’ll have to try it on a future project.
Excellent tutorial! Thank you !!!
Thank you Asian, I used to know and use this method but after many years away from sewing I no longer remember what used to be easy.

Exactly what I needed to learn. Thank you x Debbie

Where did you get that chalkmarker, please? I haven't seen anything as finetipped as this one so far.
Great tutorial, by the way!

Clever Girl!!!!!
Super helpful. Thank you!
Thanks again for another excellent tutorial. Again what is the fabric you used please.
It’s a tencel rayon 😊

I find a mens sleeve placket is easier for me to sew.
This method is more suited for finer fabrics like the rayon/viscose Sian is using here. That doesn’t mean you can’t used the other method of course. 💕
I find on thinner fabrics it frays. On thinner fabrics I use the sleeve placket with some interfacing.
@@cleanqueen75 That’s the nice thing with sewing, you can do it the way you like. 💕
