Love the haircut. Looks so cute on you. Next, I spent many years being afraid of two things when it came to sewing (well, those weren't the ONLY two, but I digress.) those being setting in sleeves and threading my serger. I lamented about that serger to an indy fabric store owner who replied: " mind over matter." She was so right. That was years ago. Keeping her words in mind, I taught myself how to thread the serger and haven't looked back. Same with setting in sleeves. Once I got the hang of it, I love setting in sleeves. So Karon, I'm stating all that to state this: The only reason you can't sew pants is because you think that you can't. You can. Just get a good book on fitting pants AND use muslins to perfect the fit. I've read an article in which Kenneth D. King stated that it took him several muslins ( waaaay more than two) to get the fit right. Now, if a professional can say that, then there's no shame in anybody's game when it comes to making pants. Give it a try. Your sewing is already excellent. You'll do fine. Maybe not on the first try or the second. But don't be intimidated, because you got this, kid. I know an excellent seamstress when I see one. Oh, and Happy Holidays, if you keep Christmas.

Hello Kay! Your feedback made me chuckle. Thank you re the haircut.
On the fears of sewing, I share the serger fear with you, but I'm happy you overcame. I did thread my serger and got a garment done (a pants 😀) but the fear occasionally returns.
Yes, I definitely will keep going as I want to be able to make my own lovely fitting pants. On the setting in of sleeves, I am continuing to learn.
Thank you so much for the encouragement and support! Happy holidays and Merry Christmas when it comes🙂

I have some of those fabrics, so seeing you discuss them and possible fabric choices for them is inspirational for me! I'm about to put a separating zipper in a jacket - never did it before and I am worried but I'm telling myself I just need to go slowly, take it one step at a time, and try my best - many others have done it, so it can be done, and I hope by me!

You definitely can do it. I, too, have doubts about my capabilities when sewing some garments, but you will surprise yourself at the outcome once finished.
Please add that zipper, you can do it!
I am happy this was helpful for you to get ideas on your fabric and options.

Karon, you have the best taste in fabric selection! Everything you make is beautiful! And girl, you do not have to hide yourself in oversized shirts just because your size has fluctuated. You are beautiful inside and out❤. If you’re finding the sleeves are snug, do a simple bicep adjustment. No pattern fits perfectly without some adjustments. We are woman and our bodies are in constant change and we must adapt those patterns to us. Are you familiar with Cashmerette Patterns? They come in both PDF and paper. I think they have a bicep adjustment built in. I recommend the Vernon blouse or the Swanton blouse.
Change of subject, are you familiar with Stashhub? It has made my sewing planning so much easier!

    • @cookeka
      @cookeka  Місяць тому +1

Hey Donna! I appreciate your feedback and recommendations. I have heard of Caahmerrette patterns and looked at some options, but I am working on making healthier choices, and my body is adjusting.
I will definitely look at the Vernon or Swanton tops.
Nope, I've never heard of Stashhub but did research based on your suggestion and will be using that App to see if it helps.

The green striped pants are going to be a perfect match for your inspiration. I love the idea of sewing looking forward to spring and summer!
The orange striped linen is gorgeous and will make an awesome “shacket”. I can see something like that would be a great addition to my own mostly neutral wardrobe. Just throw a classy colorful shirt/jacket on. And like you said you can wear something more relaxed underneath.

Delicious fabrics! Just one of those garments will cheer anybody up.
The pinterest photo of the green linen pants reminds me of a trick. They'd look even prettier if the pockets were made in skin-toned lining fabric instead of white. The pockets would become invisible through the fashion fabric.
The burnt orange fabric is terrific. As is the coral stripey fabric. It's hard to tell on camera: would they work well together as vest + pants?
S3002 princess seam blouse is cool! The version with an abstract print and narrow wrist bands looks more modern to me. It's classic, but with special features that make it fun. Perfect for the print you have. Would also work on the solid orange linen.
You've shown us your B5616 before. It's perfect on you. Who wouldn't reuse a winner pattern? It becomes all-new with every different fabric.
For some other fabric you might really enjoy a moto jacket like McCalls 8121. You're the master of seam finishing and top stitches. Large collars and fitted bodices suit you.
Maybe the extra hardware, tabs and other optional ornaments make it look harder than it is. Do you really need the snaps, for example? The simpler, tweed version looks more adaptable to different outfits anyway. With the right interfacings, the zipper shouldn't be hard. Maybe a good place for a two-way zipper, so you can adjust the fit of a jacket day to day?
The sleeves require making a mini-muslin. Leather stretches; fabric doesn't. Getting sleeves comfortable and bending at the elbow is essential. If you don't like how it fits as drafted, you could substitute a 2-piece or 3-piece sleeve from a different pattern, or use B5616. There are videos on how to use set-in sleeves from another pattern.
Wine red pinstripe linen. Every maker can relate to those difficult feelings about fabrics that seem to sit around too long. You have multiple pictures of beautiful vests. The V-neck open collared vest style would look terrific on you. Maybe what stops you is the thought of making matching pants/shorts. They're trickier. How about just a simple shirt dress (or sleeveless "vest dress?") adapted from one of your tried-and-true shirt patterns? Much easier than a pantsuit to sew. If no idea seems quite right for this fabric, it's OK to give it away or hem it up as a holiday tablecloth. Your time is valuable. A creative person always has more ideas than time to carry out every last one of them.
ME 2082, I've been wanting to try that pattern! It should be possible to hack the bottom portion to make a dress instead of jumpsuit. Can't wait to see how your project goes.
Thank you for your videos. I'm a grateful viewer. I wish you a happy holiday season. We in the Northern hemisphere need more sun, soon. I remind you of great news: days start getting longer two weeks from now.

I truly appreciate your time taken to provide such a detailed review. Yes, the green and white linen pants are a lovely option.
The burnt orange along with stripes is a lovely idea, but the Stipe is two yards, only not enough for a pants.
As for B5616, a true and tried pattern that often gives a new look with each fabric or a hack.
I will definitely work on the moto jacket and keep the foundation as a focus to minimize the intimidation of zippers. I believe my strengths will provide encouragement, and I work on building the courage to prevail.
The set in two piece sleeves is an option that works well for me as well, so it's that I can utilize the method. The red and white pin stripe is finally getting sewed this winter, and a double breast vest is the goal, or if the shorts don't work, it makes a blazer dress.
All these ideas build or keep my creativity going.
Thanks for sharing your detailed feedback.

That red striped fabric is beautiful as well. I would do a vest and skirt set.
And speaking of red what about that red corduroy you showed us a while back?

    • @cookeka
      @cookeka  Місяць тому +1

Yes, the green stripe pants is a lovely one. Summer and Spring are my favorite seasons, and planning projects for the period is helpful.
The orange and orange stripe do make a great separate idea, but I have only two years of the stripe, which would need more for trousers.
A shaket sounds great as well.
I will create a vest and shorts from the red stripe linen because I don't really like skirts.
Happy someone remembered that red Corduroy fabric! I still have it in my unfinished pile in pieces and will show it during my next video.😀
Thank you so much for watching and sharing great ideas and your feedback.

That magnificent red fabric with the white stripe fabric would make up into a fabulous midi length A line skirt. Please look at Australian pattern, Pattern Emporium company "easy does it skirt" pattern with a flat tummy and elasticated back waist. I believe this could be a winner for you. Love Sally ❤
