- Hello guys,
As requested, I have prepared a video of my French seam armscye process and I hope it will be helpful.
Please note, this is not the only way to create this method; however, this is how I create a clean finish on the inside of most of my garments.
Let me know if it was useful or if you have any feedback.
Thank you for watching!
Karon.

Do you have a video for buttons hole? Your videos, a great for sewing tutorials
Yes, a shirt one is on the channel but keep in mind making button holes are specific to the machine you use. So buttons done in my machine may not be the same as yours.
Thank you for taking the time for this tutorial. I may have missed it, but what seam allowances did you use? I’ve done many French seams but not on a set in sleeve. Your garments are finished so beautifully! I was taught to press as I go back in Jr. High🙂
Hello Donna...I believe I did a 1/4 inch on the first stitching. You are welcome, you didn't miss it, I forgot to mention. I appreciate you watching!
Beautiful job! So professional. Can you use this technique on knits ?
Appreciate it Marianita. I don't think so as it might be too bulky but then it might also depend on the thickness of the knit.
How did you get your dart to look so neat as well as the beautiful finish to the sleeves ?
Marianita, I go very slow around sleeves and cuffs. I press after every stitch which helps to maintain a nice finished look. Thanks for watching.
I appreciate your video! You did a very good job demonstrating the French Seam. Your work is beautiful! This is something I want to start doing with my garment sewing. Is it possible to sew pants using French Seams, in particular Linen pants. Thank so much!
Hello Mary, thank you! I believe you could, but I have only done so once using cotton sateen. I think if you are patient and willing to get it done, it is possible.
Which pattern did u use for the white orange dress at very beginning? Beautiful
I had to review the video but didn't see the dress you asked about.
Thank you
You are welcome 🙂
What seam allowance do you use when you are sewing the French seam? Did I miss it, is it 1/4 “ when you sew the wrong sides together and then 1/2” ?
Hello, yes, correct. I used a 1/4 inch seam when sewing wrong sides together and 1/2 seam when finishing.
Is there a way to attach the sleeve first with french seams before seeing the sides together? I make my toddler’s clothes and trying to do the sleeve last like that is a nightmare since its so tiny, but I’d love to try french seams since my kid is picky and doesn’t like anything itchy against his skin.
Yes, you can attach the sleeves first using French seams and then finish the process as you would normally.
I simply attach the sleeve to the armscye, wrong sides facing, and stich together. I trim or grade the seam, press, and then turn right sides facing and enclose that seam.
You should be able to proceed with the other sections.
Hi, Do you add the 3/8 - 5/8 inches to the garment’s measurement for the French seams? Thanks
Hi, I do not add anything additional. I use the seam allowance given in the pattern. Let me know if that helps.
@@cookeka Thank you!
Thank you for this tutorial. I’m curious as to if you’ve ever tried attaching the sleeves before doing the side seams. If so, was there any difference in difficulty? You’ve inspired me to give your method a try. I’ve always wanted to try French seams on an entire garment but the order of operations makes me a bit apprehensive.🙂
Hello, no. I have never attached the sleeves prior to doing the side seams. Give it a try and sew how it works for you.
Thank you for watching.
Hi Karen, is it me or is the sewing machine inverted even the word juki is mirror imaged. When u face a machine the presser is on your left and yours is on your right. Confused 🤔
Hi Samara, no my sewing machine is not inverted. I am not sure why it reflects that way for you.
@@cookeka ok no worries, i was baffled and even googled left handed sewing machine 😂

There is no real rule with which thread to pull when gathering, but the bobbin thread tends to pull a lot easier than the top thread, so thats the one I use. The top one seems to catch and pop a lot easier.
Awesome, thank you for the information Linda!
