I'd be hard pressed to call the Outback a wagon. I own a 99 legacy outback and I feel like the new ones are more crossover than wagon relative to the older ones. Long live the wagon
The legacy itself was a wagon until the 5th generation, When they made them separate lines in 2010. The outback was a trim option for the legacy from 1994-2009, they are the same chassis. (BG/BH/BP)
Based on the prices of the sporty handling ones starting above 45,000, a sport back might be a cheaper option that still has more space. Acura Integra, Kia Stinger, and Volkswagen Arteon are all aiming to be sportier with prices starting below $45,000. Such a shame we can't get the Volkswagen Golf Alltrak anymore. You don't need to be rich to appreciate space and realize that SUVs just aren't fun to drive.
Station wagons are so much better of a design than SUVs, Station wagons carry just as much if not more. can still tow, Have better aerodynamics,Lower Center of gravity so less likely to rollover,And do well with snow tires. the Volvo v60 is a proper Wagon
I bought a 2019 VW Alltrack SE for $25, 000 right before they were discontinued int the US, and they are currently selling for $30,000 and up used. It was the best purchase of this kind I have ever made, as it is a far better vehicle than their current SUV offerings. I hope to drive it for many years.
Great presentation…thanks for sharing. I drive an A6 Avant which I’d love to replace with the RS6 Avant when I hit the lottery. Another nice wagon is the Jaguar XF Shooting Brake though it has been dropped from distribution to North America. The Mercedes CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake is another awesome wagon that I’d like to see in North America (though I have no idea how I’d afford it)
The outback is also the most successful station wagon, by far. for every 20 station wagons sold, 17 of them are outbacks. Subaru sells five times more outbacks than every other station wagon sold by everyone else combined. granted, part of that is probably them changing and marketing the outback as more of a SUV.
The A4 allroad is such a strange in-between thing. It doesn't have the handling of the A4 Avant and its siblings. It doesn't have the carrying capacity or towing ability that the A6 allroad gets due to its air suspension's auto levelling and overall versatility. It is just stuck right in the middle. In a way, the Subaru and Countrymen have the same problems.
Great topic...perhaps also mention if Canada had anything the US doesn't and vice versa. Also I asked a bunch of people with 2021 F54's and they no longer have lashing points in the trunk, regardless of what packages they have with the car.
@@TheMINIac when I refer to differences across the border I don't mean the options as the lashing points are not present in models in Canada or the US but for models of wagons, there are usually some brands that have them in Canada but not the US etc
Wagons are losing sales to SUV's here in Australia as well. Seems that we have different choices in Wagons though. My pick is the older quality-built Czech Skoda Octavia RS wagon, 170HP Tdi, (350 torque), but you can get petrol rockets now the Diesel option has disappeared 😞 The older Octavia RS (Sport setup) are a bargain: *so sleek* (Im looking at you chunky SUV), understated, beautiful to drive, very comfortable, with a huge boot (trunk), all for relatively little money along with Volkswagen Group quality. All the bells and whistles needed without being too silly. This mark2 series base models were used as taxis in Europe and many have done over one million km (600,000 miles). I think that it won car of the year here recently as well. Best car I have owned.
#NOTBORING That was one of the best car sector round-ups I've seen. Kudos. If I had the money, then I'd put the Panamera in my 3 top vehicles, dropping the Audi because of that big grille. Above the Audi, I'd also put the Volvo V60XC. Didn't the American's mock the Volvo (in general) as a "soccer-mom" car once or twice?
I guess the Corolla Cross was our version of it, but I would prefer a Corolla wagon to a wimpy looking Rav4 wanabe. I don't like the look of the Corolla hatch, don't know why they put that steep angle at the back, that should have been made to look more like a sleek wagon. The new Prius looks great, leaning more in that direction myself.
Not sure about Jag and Volkswagon, but Buick dropped it's Regal TourX after 2020 model year. The only "car" you can get from Chevy or Buick is the Malibu right now (no wagon for that anyway) and that is on it's way out the door.
i never really like SUV's, it always rub me the wrong way, but these station wagons, it is perfect, it has that being humble appeal to it, while the SUV's comes off as arrogant, so the station wagon gets my win and my money, i better buy a couple, before the price goes up😜
I own a 2018 Buick Regal TourX Essence. In Europe, it was sold as the Opel Insignia Country Tourer in as a Vauxhall in the U.K. GM imported it for Buick for just three model years 2018-2020. They sold poorly because Buick did little to market them and most U.S. buyers shun wagons. I love wagons (had a 2003 Passat GLX 5 speed wagon before I bought the Buick) and I love my TourX wagon. Super rare and fun to drive.
Did I miss coverage of a BMW wagon, did he skip it, or has it been pulled from the market!? I really hope he just missed it!! *edit (UUUUFFFF, I just did a search on autotrader for new BMW wagons & there are none listed... How sad!)
@@TheMINIac I'm drouling over the M3 Touring they have announced! I see there was a good amount of excitement & support for bringing it over to the states. I've driven some of the newer M3's and they are just amazing. I'm personally more of a 5 series type of guy (size wise) but it would be great to see either the M3 wagon or the RS4 Avant make it to our shores before these companies convert to all electric (I have to spit every time I type or say this...).
Pardon the expression, they say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. I disagree. But I do think they have versions of these cars that have fewer options.
@@TheMINIac i haven’t found a small suv that drives with as much feedback as the countryman S. Although I’ve never tested the Macan. I suppose we’d need to define exactly how a wagon is defined. I’d have to look that up

Technically it's a lifted wagon because it is still heavily based on the legacy. The entire front is still a legacy, just lifted
I consider the Volvo V60 a proper modern wagon

I drive a 2020 Subaru outback 2.5i premium but would swap in a heartbeat if Toyota brought out a Camry station wagon again
Throwing in the Subaru Outback is misleading; Subaru classifies it as a Crossover (unibody version of the SUV).

Good point.

Not in production anymore
Taking a lot of cheap shots at the SUVs there, buddy 😂😂😂. We need a American wagon and please no more hemi’s
