@@rocketresto I'm telling my wife that; she thinks I keep too much stuff in the car 'just in case' when we do road trips. Sorry dear, you married to an old man who's smart!
Nothing better than a survivor like this! That's probably the most solid sweptline I have ever seen. I had a 69 D100 way back in the early 80s and even then the step boards inside the door were rusted through. One little detail I noticed when Jamie was working on it is that it has the old straight drive starter. If I'm not mistaken, that was because of the old 4 speed trans. I have a 56 Dodge pickup with a 64 or 65 4 speed and it too has the straight drive starter. Not sure when they switched to the gear reduction starter on the trucks with 4 spd, but I also had a 75 W200 4 speed and that had the gear reduction starter. And my 69 D100 was an automatic and that also had the gear reduction starter. And my dad once had a 72 D800 truck with a 413 and it had the straight drive starter. Interesting Mopar truck trivia.
Old rubber must have been made better back then, I have seen soo many classic cars with factory belts and hoses that were 40+ years old in great shape where I have seen aftermarket replacements that were totally dry rotted and falling apart with in 2-3 years. Same for suspension bushings and motor mounts the modern rubber doesn't last very long.
@@SE-me2pt tires for everything dry rot like crazy nowadays, I have seen old tires that were stuck in dirt for 20+ years that somehow still held air and have very little dry rot, where I see tires 5years old or less already showing sidewall dry rot and falling apart, the rubber compounds used today just don't seem to hold up to time.
I used to have an early '65 D200 (poly 318, NP435) that still had the 16.5" split rims. Found a truck tire shop that would change them, but very limited and expensive tire choices. It also felt very silly sitting in line with all those massive commercial vehicles, waiting my turn... 🙂 Fast forward to my current '70 Camper Special (LA318, NP435), it's very original with 57K miles but I wasn't willing to deal with the split rims this time so I replaced them with 16" alloys. Pretty much everything else is what it came with. Color-wise, I thought it was medium burnt orange, but when I got paint that was supposed to be that color, it wasn't nearly as red as the original.
Been looking to get the gas tank out of the cab on my '66. I've seen a few options in the Sweptline forums and the Internet but curious as to what your opinion/advice would be on that. The fuel tank is small capacity to begin with and gas tends to slop out the filler tube after a fill up sometimes. Plus it just stinks, my wife doesn't like it especially on hot days. I'm also curious as to your opinion on an axle swap on the front for disc brakes. Would have to sacrifice the closed knuckle for an open Dana 44, drums work fine but it's sketchy sometimes. Cheers
Few companies make disc brake kits for these, maybe Scarbird Brakes? I’d keep the cab tank, Vans auto makes repos now and if you get all new rubber for it it should seal fine.
@@rocketresto I will say I only found DDG because of the truck content then that got me to your channel. Not much credible content on W series trucks. Would love to see your super mopar knowledge in a video explaining parts interchangeability between the models. DDG touched on that with radiators. My truck is 1 of 766 made that year. So not many around. Kind of a small viewing audience but sure appreciated by any truck lover. Thanks again!
The green paint chips in your samples probably include one for Forest Service vehicles. I remember lots of Dodge Trucks from that time used as fleet vehicles by the Rangers. Thanks for showing it to us.
The old Dodge PU looks solid. I take it Montana where the truck comes from by the rear plate doesn't use road salt like it's used here in Massachusetts
I'm from North Dakota, and if it's from eastern Montana they usually don't need to use any salt because they don't get much snow. If you get west further in the mountains, then they get snow but even there I don't think they use salt. As least I haven't seen any and I drive out there every year to go downhill skiing.
Hi Tom. Jamie seems to be a C body fan now. I'd like to see him resto one of your candidates out in your lot. That would be an awesome video series for us C body lovers. By the way, have you ever heard of Murray Park? He has a boatload of Cbody parts. Amazing yard of treasures. Check it out 👍
Yes have done business with Murray, he has a lot of C-Body parts. Think Jamie would love a C-Body if he gave one a chance! He just needs to find the right one cheap and he'll be all in.
@@rocketresto is that a cb radio and a scanner bolted to dash, radio just needs tuner cleaner from electronics store take vol knobs off slide piece gas hose over it power off spray away. Twist knob a few times then install
I disagree. It's a really nice survivor that should be left as is. Do whatever with the drive train, but leave the body as is. It's only original once.
Don’t think that adventurer option came out until later but pretty sure it is whatever higher trim level was available that year with the side top trim.

Never see this Dodge Power Wagons in such beautiful 😍
and original condition .
What a treat
Found this one 4 years ago and have been trying to buy it since, finally talked the guy out of it!
"Old manned out"? Not sure if offended or not but that just means the previous owner was a smart person. 👍
Why can’t it be both!

Yes you just don't see them this clean.
You are doing great, Tom. Thanks for the content.
I had that same Craig Pioneer 8-Track player in my 70' 340 Duster back in the day !!!!
Nice!
I've got 2 D500s I'm working on, a 70 and a 62. Love any sweptline videos. Hopefully I'll see a 2ton Dodge from y'all at some point
Would love to get my hands on a bigger one!
LOVE this era Dodge pickups! Thanks Tom!
And The Who too!
They are good looking trucks. Can’t believe it still has the steps.
Jamie pretty much cleared it up about the history are the power wagon don't get mad and I'll just listen to him sometimes I love your channel 😁♥️
We have a joke when we do the same vehicle - Jamie's videos are like mine but better!

Seems like motorcycle and bike tires in general also seem to age/wear a lot faster these days

The new rubber absolutely doesn’t last as long anymore.

I apologize for my last comment that truck was made to work 😁

Understand on the wheels, they can be a bit of a PITA.

That truck is a great pickup.
It’s pretty awesome. Brakes and u joints next.
Looking forward to more of this truck. I got a 69 W100 SWB I'm doing the same thing to.
Wish this video would have done a little bit better. Plan on doing one for the brakes.

I'm sure it does. Just bought a 73 crew cab in Montana that is Forest Service green, they had a lot of those rigs.
The extra intake pipe, is probaly for vacuum for milking machine, here in sweden a lot of farm tractors and some older trucks have a similar set up!

If you don;t hear the tape drive when you push in the 8 track cartridge, you may use the past tense when describing it.

Good to know
@@rocketresto is that a cb radio and a scanner bolted to dash, radio just needs tuner cleaner from electronics store take vol knobs off slide piece gas hose over it power off spray away. Twist knob a few times then install
Those orii heater/ radiator hose clamps are designed to expand and contract
The new worm ones don't
We try to use the corbin clamps on super original restorations here but they do tend to leak so put worms on it.
Could that valve be to convert to propane or to use propane to start it in the cold? (In a very sketchy way)
Bet it could.
Do it right those split rims are fine, gotta make sure the ring seats properly.😮
Local tire shop seems to know what they are doing.
8 track players don't usually go bad .. the tape goes bad due to the foam cushion behind the tape on the cartridge rotting away
It lit up but didn't seen to do anything, going to look into it farther.
This thing deserve a rotisserie restomod!
Our plan is to leave it as original for now.

Chek rims 16. Inch 8lug from a mid 80s. W300. Dodge van
We looked into that, think he’s just going to keep the originals for now.
