    Josiah & Steph, I am absolutely loving your channel. I am inspired and you have given me my excitement back to shoot weddings! I have felt kind of in a rut lately, going through the motions at my weddings, but you have some great ideas that are not only modern, but are in fact timeless, not giving into current ‘trends’. The biggest thing I struggle with at weddings, being an introvert, is getting close to people, capturing candid moments at the reception. I am fine shooting absolutely everything else in the wedding, since I know I need to take charge of getting the shots I want, but trying to get candids of the guests makes me want to hide in the bathroom! Lol! I feel like an intruder, and tend to stay on the outskirts with my long lens, but I feel I am missing opportunities by hanging back. Any advice on how to not feel like an intruder and breaking the ice with wedding guests?

      Hey M3G! Thanks for the comment! It's something I feel too and I actually also tend to hang back and not get into the mix of things all that much. I often feel like sometimes during shoots and weddings I will pull out my alternate persona. Almost like a stage presence. I get much more talkative, loud and smile a whole lot more. It's just something I realized I need to do to keep the energy up and get people smiling, too. The introverted thing I totally get. Introversion is really just how you recharge your energy. I'm assuming you need alone time to recharge, but on that end, you're also typically a shy person. I am also introverted, but I can be very outgoing. I know there are a lot of how to be an introverted photographer videos floating around, but I don't think there should be a difference between introverted photographers and extroverted photographers. There should only be photographers who are doing the very best job they can with the couples who book them. If that means getting a little uncomfortable to get a great shot, then that's what needs to happen. I don't have any tips for that other than smile often and be friendly. I try and live life by following the rule set by Dale Carnegie: You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you. Apply this photography and you're golden.

    I have a wedding. My first wedding 2 hours. It’s 08-07-2020. I’m watching videos to learn how to do weddings. Crashing for this day. I know it’s bad to do this like this but this video helps.

    I really like the tips, i would like to ask about how do you received the payment as in front full payment or through installments(advance payment)?. The only reason i asked you is because the 1st tip doesn't work for payment made in installments since after the wedding some of my clients tend to ignore my invoice for a long time before finishing the payment just because i treated them friendly at the beginning.

    • @JosiahBlizzard
      @JosiahBlizzard  5 років тому +4

      Great question. We make it clear that a 25% retainer (not deposit) is required at signing. The remainder is due 2 weeks prior to the wedding. If no payment is made then, we will still shoot, but no photos will be delivered until payment is made. We tell them we need to have payment made prior to the wedding so there’s no stress or anything else to worry about on the wedding day. This makes them feel that we have their best interest in mind, which we do. Worrying about payment on the wedding day as a bride sucks.

      @@JosiahBlizzard Great info. It is always a good idea to not giving them their photos until paid but i always send just few pictures to them inorder for them to post on social media cause if i don't until being paid, the photos won't carry much weight to them as they will see them as outdated. But this has a downside cause they won't finish the payment ASAP. Also some clients just want to be seen by the guest that they have hired a professional photographer with a best equipment at their wedding but after that they find it very difficult to finish the payment. That's why now i take 75% up front to cover for all of my costs.

    • @JosiahBlizzard
      @JosiahBlizzard  5 років тому +3

      You set the rules. I would highly recommend accepting all payment up front. People will follow the rules you set in place. If someone doesn’t pay you in full and you’re still delivering photos, and they never end up paying you the remaining balance, they’re in breach of contract and you can take legal action. If you don’t pay a credit card bill, there are repercussions for not paying.
      I know many people who break it into thirds. 33.3% up front. 33.3% 6 months out. 33.3% 2 weeks before. That might be a good place to start.

    Hey Josiah - if I buy a Patreon membership, does that only allow me to follow you and then I would have to pay again to follow another creator on there? Or does my Patreon membership under your referral, also then allow me to follow other Patreon creators as well? How does this work? Seems like it could get super expensive if you're following all the people over there that you follow here. (Thus, the reason I'm still only over here on YT instead.) Sigh.

    • @JosiahBlizzard
      @JosiahBlizzard  4 роки тому

      Emily Grace Hey! Great question. So Patreon is a platform that allows you to support creators through monthly payments. Some people use it as a way to create some income to keep creating artwork, videos, music, writing, painting, etc. For me, I’m using it in a way to make money since I spend a lot of time creating content on UA-cam but then I also give you exclusive more in depth content on Patreon. Particularly right now, I’m providing all of my email templates to the supporters in Patreon.
      Because each Patreon page focuses on different things and your support is specifically for them, you would be paying a separate monthly fee for each Patreon page you subscribe to. Most people wouldn’t follow all of the people they follow on UA-cam over on Patreon as well. They would only do so to continue education and supporting their favorite creators. I don’t make money from UA-cam. I’m starting to get some ad revenue now but not much. Support for $15 a month right now on Patreon allows me to make some money, create more content, help the members on a more individual basis. On Patreon, I give exclusive content around posing, emails, marketing and I’m doing monthly live Q&As. The $15 a month or $180 a year is less than I’d end up selling my email templates for and you’ll be getting a lot of additional content on Patreon. You can also cancel at anytime.

    A NAS RAID is not a backup solution fyi

    • @JosiahBlizzard
      @JosiahBlizzard  2 роки тому

      Fair enough. I typically will keep the files on a portable LaCie and on the SD cards, dump them to the NAS RAID, edit off the LaCie drive, and then clear the LaCie and cards after the wedding is delivered. The photos are in 2-3 places pretty much all the time. And thankfully because it is raided, there is extra data protection. I’ve changed up how I use this since making this video
