I love the way you and Steph work together. Giving instruction to your couple as well as communicating with your second in such a gentile and joyful way.
Also, I think the "rocking back and forth/Fake Walk" thing you did with the bridesmaids probably got better reactions and genuine smiles from all of them than just having a walking shot. I'm going to use that method regardless of the wetness of the grass from now on.
I would love love to see more from those terribly lit rooms. It’s an issue we all struggle with and the reason I haven’t done weddings yet. I don’t feel comfortable with flash but would love to see how you handle/edit something like that. Great video!
Yup You're a total Pro I can tell right away by not just the pictures you take, but how you interact with people. I'm trying to be a wedding photographer and I wanna be half as good as you. Great work 👏
Absolutely amazing work man. I hope to be able to direct like you someday! Thank you so much for this video, it helped a lot. I'm going to definitely go with your lighting style with the two stand lights, looks easy to set up and work with. I was stressing so hard about lighting haha.
No problem! Glad it's helpful! We change our lighting style up depending on the wedding and what's available. If we're feeling lazy, we'll go on camera and 1 off. Just depends on the situation.
Omg i loooove your videos! Learned loads from you, Josiah! I will be shooting my second wedding this 19th! So just trying to prepare as much as I can! Thank you so much for making these videos! Sooo helpful! Thanks, man!
So glad my videos are helpful!! Good luck on the 19th! I do have a tips for second shooting a wedding video somewhere on my channel if you haven’t watched that yet!
Honestly didn't expect much from an "older" video of an 8k sub channel, but this was so well done! Can't believe you have so few subs if other videos are even close to this quality. Will definitely watch more, keep it up!
Thanks so much! UA-cam is really a side thing for me but I’ve been trying to ramp it up and gain more traction. Lots of photography videos on UA-cam so competition is high. Your comments, likes, and subs definitely help! Thanks for the encouragement, too!
Josiah - thank you soooo much for doing these for us on UA-cam here. I wish I had the money to pay for even one photographer (Miss KJ All Access), let alone, several on Patreon (Taylor Jackson and a few more), but I just don't have it in the way life has dealt the cards I currently have, so I GREATLY APPRECIATE all you do to put these here on UA-cam for those of us in the photography community who are still truly trying to learn and make enough to one day afford all those extra educational opportunities. I have learned soooooo much from your videos and I cannot thank you enough for putting your content here instead. As a small thanks, I always let the commercials run the full length in the hopes that somehow helps the amount of money you receive from us watching these. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.
You are too kind! Thanks Emily :) Hopefully one day we can get you in the Patreon community! If you ever have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! I really appreciate your support!
Glad you found me! Anything specifically you’re looking to learn that I can potentially cover in the future? I have a massive list as of now, but would love to add your topic to it. Thanks for commenting and for the sub!
This is super well done and very helpful. I'm just getting started in wedding photography and looking for all the resources I can find from the experience of others. Thank you.
This is absolutely great! I especially like how you get to react with your customers and everyone present. I hope he realized that his friends will get on him about using an umbrella while in uniform. The regulation does not allow it.
Thanks Juan. All of his friends in uniform were there during those photos and said nothing about using an umbrella while in uniform. Does holding an umbrella for a citizen, and in this case- his wife on her wedding day, still change the rules? Either way, it doesn’t matter. We weren’t gonna let them get soaking wet whether in uniform or not on there wedding day. Thanks for the compliments though
Haven't uploaded any educational content in a little while, but I am working on 30 videos at the moment that will be releasing for 30 consecutive days. Just finishing up the last few so there'll be a TON of content coming soon, including a few full behind the scenes videos.
Lucas Mikó I am primarily a natural light only shooter until the reception when I absolutely need to use flash. If I don’t have to use flash then I won’t.
Just watching this before my wedding today:) Loved your energy and authenticity (even with the hind-sight comment)! I filmed a couple wedding videos on my channel but I’m trying to focus on sharing photo tips for bloggers and influencers right now. Can’t wait for more weddings in 2021!
Thanks so much!! As far as the 70-200 goes, it depends on if it is cost effective enough for you. We purchased when we knew we’d need to rent it for every wedding that year and if buying it outright saved us money based on how many weddings we had scheduled for the future when comparing it to the price of renting then we made the decision to buy. Hopefully that makes sense
Really love your wedding bts video, you are very good at directing the couples, love it and i've learnt a lot from this informative video thank you! :)
Hi! Josiah i have a quick question: For the reception, were you controlling both off camera flashes with your camera/trigger, or was your assistant using one as well?
@@JosiahBlizzard Thanks so much! Also what stuck in my head when you mentioned you didn't get a few shots of the guests reactions (parents during the aisle walking, cake cutting scene) was 'Ah man, maybe he should've had his assistant get those moments while he gets the main shots, or visa versa!' But I'm sure you'll remember to capture those candid's cause you're awesome! :D
Jehan Martinez thanks dude. Yeah, sometimes we just prioritize certain photos over others. Easy in the moment to forget or miss certain photos and in hindsight on video see all the moments you could’ve snapped. Just a balance and I always prioritize bride coming down aisle and grooms reaction.
@@JosiahBlizzard For sure! I'm shooting my first wedding for a close friend of mine and watching this was more than helpful. I love the way you direct the couple, especially making them laugh for those candids. You make it look so natural. Thanks for making these perspective bts videos. Look forward to more!
Amazing as usual!! A few q's. What was your aperture at for the big group shot? I sometimes have an issue with getting enough separation but not having everyone perfectly sharp. And when it rains are you ever worried about your gear? My canon lenses are weather sealed but it still makes me so nervous!!
The big bridal party shot was on an 85mm wide open at f/1.8. The lens is what gave me separation from the background. I do get nervous about rain but it wasn’t raining hard enough for me to worry about it during this wedding. I only get worried if it’s a torrential downpour and if that’s the case, I wouldn’t be outside with the couple. We’ve been caught in the rain though during a ceremony and have had a camera break so it does suck.
Great video for sure, curious to know if you photograph people sitting when your lights are pointed at the dance floor, and how do you do so if lights aren’t pointed at them ?
Great content. One of my favorites. As a solo shooter, I’ve been shooting wedding parties with the 24-70. I never thought of using the 70-200, but I like the way they look. We’re you shooting those at 200mm?
Shooting the bridal party at an 85mm wide open at 1.8. Love the look but I really had to back up. I love the 50mm and 85mm - I’m sure 200mm would love dope though.
Since the camera was on top of my camera, I'm only showing one perspective. You can find all of our favorites from each of our weddings on our blog (www.josiahandsteph.com/blog) and that'll include both mine and my 2nd's images.
Scared as butt. lol Have my first photography wedding in sept. I'm normally a videographer but decided heck why not try photography. Love the vids which will help me direct. hence why I love video; we're not so direct like photographers lol
We do! I've been meaning to make a video on how we shoot photo + video, but just haven't had the capacity to do so quite yet. Hopefully that's coming soon.
Something I've noticed in many of these videos... Everytime there is a female shooter she always look like just came from dropping kids to the school, meanwhile guys are always well dressed. Why??
arunashamal careful here. That is my wife. Also, she is wearing a dress... we wear attire that we’d normally wear to a wedding as guests. We are also on our feet all day and working hard so wearing something that is semi comfortable, easy to move around in and not have to worry about a dress that is going to reveal anything is helpful.
Told my wife to move I think twice... and only because she was on the very edge of my frame. Telling her to slide out real quick is not an issue. If she tried to stay so far out of my shot that she was poorly composing the image then I’d have a bigger issue with that. I’d rather her get the shot that looks good than decide to move so far out of frame that I end up not using the photo at all... and all so I don’t have to say those 7 words, “Steph, slide to your left a bit.” Who cares?
You're VERY good at directing the couple and party in general. I'm learning a lot from you
That means a lot! Thanks Symz G!
Great job on this BTS video. I always love seeing others process as well.
Thanks for sharing
The 3-5 second count for a kiss is just perfect.
Great tips, love the way you interact and subtly direct. Rocking back and forth to mimick walking is the biggest take away! Awesome thanks!
Fantastic video... great footage & photos! ... a real talent shooting a full wedding AND documenting it too! ...nice one!

@@gregshawphotography8828 A 70-200 is also great for the ceremony, since it gives you a close-up/portrait-ish photo without being in everyone's way.

We use Yongnuo 560iv’s and they have built in transmitters so we can trigger them with our on camera yongnuo
excellent

Using the SIGMA MC-11 adapter
