Mixed feelings about this video. Liked the subject; hated how the hookup was done. There are too many opportunities for the operator to get hurt. Hookups should be done with proper equipment. Need a weighted blanket on the line in case something broke or came unhooked. The fact that the hook didn't fit through the chain links is a huge safety problem. Shouldn't use a chain in the first place but if hooking, make sure the hook points up so if it comes off the force will be directed into the ground vs. up at the operator (again the weighted blanket!).
Go to your local fire department or rescue squad. Ask if they have any old fire hoses they are planning to decommission and grow away. If they do you can cut them up and feed your chain or winch line through it to act as a tree saver. Best part it's usually free.
Growing up, I used a come-a-long many times getting my dad's 76 Dodge Power Wagon unstuck. They work, but it's A LOT of work using them! (this is why after I joined the Navy and bought my first 4x4, I bought a Warn 9.5 ti winch and installed it on their multi-mount setup)
Used one for years. Get the heaviest one you can afford. Getting too old to fight it in the 100 degree heat so bought a winch. It’s important to listen, feel and pay attention cause it does put you in a bad position if there is breakage.
Just got stuck on Christmas Eve in a great big puddle that we’ve been through dozens of times. 5000 pound vehicle was absolutely stuck and the come along wasn’t doing jack diddly. Got there the next morning with my tundra and broke the tow strap on the third pull. Actually needed a 9000 pound winch and it took me two tries to get it out. The come along was not going to do it. Traction boards didn’t do it. Main problem was I didn’t have the winch with me at the very beginning which was my fault totally. Gunning the go pedal and trying to go through the puddle was the main issue. LOL. The winch is now set up on a trailer hitch receiver mount with a detachable jumper cable style power cable. Still running steel cable and We plan to upgrade to a 12,000lb winch with synthetic “ cable”.
It’s not very fast lol. Also using a come along will give you the freedom not worrying about getting stuck to enjoy the trails and go further knowing if you get stuck you have a way out
With the come along you really need a strap or chain on both sides with the come along in the middle. Here is a good affordable 10k lbs strap with hooks on both sides for $17 amzn.to/32T8Tjr
Who is he kidding. He has no idea what can go on in off roading. This is dangerous and ridiculously inept and may kill the operator. Do not attempt it.
You use a tree saver for what? Hooks don't fully engage? Do you want me to show you how to use a paracord belt and one hand to pull that vehicle out? Lol
all about budget offloading and overloading. Subscribed

I have one, but have not used it yet. Now I have a better idea of what I need, and I will throw the tow chain in the truck too.
Nice video. Very informative
Nice, works like a high lift jack
Lots of handy trees around.

Even if you have a winch these are great as a backup
That was an awesome video. Great video bro
Thanks. I appreciate it. Thanks for commenting
I live in southern Nevada. No trees! What do you recommend?
ground anchor. search for it on the web. It's a great solution.
It does work in a pinch if it's all you have.

Thank you so much for making this video man! Really appreciate it. I’m going to get this kit. How long should the cable and wire be?

What are your methods to recovering your vehicle off-road?
Learn how to drive so you dont get stuck
Less talky more winchy
I’ve always thought the come along was hard to use.
It can be if you’re not careful. Get everything set out and take your time. It’s easy to get frustrated when using it
Should have used the comealong to pull all of those wrinkles out of your pants 😝
Cheaper at a garage sale.
Dangerous... 🤕🤦♂️

Are you serious? Sounds like you’re too scared to go off pavement
I think he’s just scared of violent dismemberment.
pull it out of mud

Does your mom know you are playing with big boy toys?
