To diffuse / dim the light on your face, consider a scrim (fabric in a frame) on a friction arm that is mounted to the ceiling, or to a c-stand. Easy to reposition, and available in various light reduction amounts, .25 to 2.5 stops.

Should probably make a disclaimer playing with mains like you do with printers. As in Australia it's actually illegal to do your own electrical work with all sorts of insurance complications etc. But I'm keen to get some of these for my garage and shed now after seeing this but I'll get them put on different switches so I can dial them down.
I have the general disclaimer at the start and now I've added another one to the description, cheers. The way I see it I was just changing one light for another.
A general rule of thumb according to the office of the technical regulator ( In South Aus any way) [direct quoted to me when I was an apprentice] is if you need a screw driver you need a sparky . on a less figer pointing note. I cant wait to see that beauty dancing round a track!@@TTRacingYT
Electrician tip here, assemble on the ground, clips on, square it up on the ground from the walls. Use the laser up and down pointer, down light on the clip hole and drill the hole for the wall mate using the up laser point. So much quicker and easier. Time is money. The earth wire must be terminated in the junction box, can not be cut.
I purchased similar lighting for my garage from Amazon, same clip types ( so probably the same lights even). They clipped in easy, but are a pain in the ass to take out. I made a mistake and had to redo one of the clips and had to bend the clip out on both sides with pliers to get the light out. When I plugged a light in to test how bright they were, it didn't seem very bright, but I installed 6 x 48" lights in total, and it is brighter than daylight in my garage. They are cheap and a great solution. I only wish my garage looked like yours with the race car in it! Thanks for the great content again!
I love your series. have you epoxy painted the floor of the garage? You'd be amazed how much light it adds, specially when working under the car. ETA: Also, Epoxy floors clean easily and don't stain.
You should have built it before and then mounted it on a temp frame like a single 2X3 running the length and wedged that up with another 2X3 similar to a drywall hanging system and then you could have adjusted it easily and mounted it without all the up down hassle.
I have watched all but one of your videos. This was not one I was very interested in, but thought I would watch, as I have liked the others. I was really good! Thank You! The ending got me giggling to myself a lot :D
I've seen lights down around a meter off the ground on the sides of paint booths for giving a nice side light. Something like that would help fill the shadows on your face and also get some light in to some of the places the over head lights miss. BTW, I'm assuming you have them in Australia, but the thing I thought would be helpful is a drywall lift. I used one to put up the ceilingin my shop and I expect you could have put a piece of wood on the lift and then gotten much of your lightin up in one piece. It might be something to look into for the next time you're working on the ceiling.
I wish this video would've happened a year ago when I did the lighting in my garage. I think I spent about $600usd on lights, they reasonably light everything, but this looks way nicer and brighter.
Great install vid! Glad to see the Aliexpress lights worked out well for you. If you ever have to do something similar in the future, I'd suggest getting a Carpenter's Square, as it will help with lining up the marks without fighting the tape measure.
Enjoying your channel Michael, for someone like me who has spent a whole lifetime in motorsport from helping my Dad with his rally car in the 70's, to building engines for the top level of Formula Ford and Group B rally cars, building Porsche endurance race cars, single seater Reynards, Group 4 Group B and WRC Rally cars, Instructor at a Single-Seater Race school, Mechanic, I have run Rally teams and Endurance racing Teams and so much more, (Sorry, after writing this it looks braggy, not intended that way). However, it is refreshing to see your modern and calculated approach from the other side of reality, 3D printing and data logging came along after I left the game. Keep up the good work, and good luck with everything. I have a feeling you are going to be facing some issues along the way. Reach out if you think I might be able to share some knowledge. Ps. Start by returning those eyeletted seat belts and get some bolt-in single-seater belts, I know you liked the harness buckle over the loop straps, but the loop straps are more comfortable in single-seaters in my opinion, the buckles always squashed my beans.

Would it be possible to 3d print little aero pieces and put them on the car. Im not sure what material the printers use or how big they can be. The lights look great
Be careful of the anchors. I used anchors for a project that were rated for 80lbs. I used four anchors and they were supporting about 45 lbs. total, or ~11lbs each. Well my anchors pulled out of the drywall.
Yeah I've had a similar situation. I spoke with the manufacturer and in my case the anchors were holding shelves, they explained its direct weight not angled weight which shelving is as the weight is further from the wall. Just have to keep an eye on them
Definitely worth considering. In this case they are all working together and holding a lot less than what they are rated for. I've also used these exact ones for a few years around the house so I'm happy.

The bespoke cardboard ruler is called a "story pole" or "story stick" and has been around for centuries. How much power do the lights use compared to the old ones? You could reinstall the original lights on a separate light switch for times you don't need all the lumens.
Hi. Food for thoguht. Buy a note pad and write down all the information relating to the car, ride height, camber and caster angles, toe, tyre pressure, spring rates, shock settings and wing settings. I did not notice, has your car got cockpit adjusting for the front and rear anti roll bars. the CV boot that I saw on the car is alright for road cars, there are better ones for race cars, there are reasons. A note for the future, with those pins on the wheel nuts the spring needs to be on the inside (towards the face of the wheel) otherwise they will easily back out.

But I love the turn-on effects - imagine the video if the lights above the racecar would light up first over the rear spoiler, then "flowing" towards the front with 20% brightness and once they reach the front go to 100% in the middle and then flow outside towards the tires. This would never get old for me - would go "to check something" in the garage like 3 times per day :)
Only licensed electricians should be wiring up 240, legally speaking. The earths can't be cut and left un-terminated like that. Those lights catch fire, your house insurance is void. You've got enough power for a small heater, as you say, running through many aliexpress push in connectors all over your roof... You've seriously got to start being careful - you are making unsafe decisions regularly.
Where is that illegal? I wired an entire building, three sub panels, a main/meter combo, buried lines, presented my work to the inspector and passed without question and I’m not licensed.
they are awful for working with. The reflection is terrible with the shape left, the installation is time consuming and over complicated. Regular LED fittings with diffusers would be able to give as good or better light levels, leave no refection and a lot easier to install. As an electrician into detailing I find the hexagon lights a terrible product

As I said at the start. There's nothing I can do on the car until the fuel cell comes. Then I can fab straps for that and the new harness bushes, followed by pouring the seat and servicing. Then finally the first drive.

Unfortunately I can't post a photo, however inspired by this video I used the same supplier and am extremely happy with the results.

Thanks for the tips. Each light has two junction boxes, and the ones receiving the wires from the roof has the earth wire terminated in it.
