    Almost no-one buys a car outright, so what matters is Fords approach to PCP deals and leasing deals. Currently the Explorer Select 77kWh model (list price circa £46k) is available on 3 +3 lease with 8k miles/pa from £490 (source: Leaseloco), slap bang in the middle of the pack along with similar Skoda, VW, Kia & Stellantis options. With a range of 374 miles (WLTP) it should suit most households who would normally look at this style of vehicle. Launch date for the smaller battery pack version seems to be late Q3/ early Q4 and this will presumably bring the lease / PCP pricing down accordingly. Time will tell if this appeals to customers or not.

      Exactly, list prices are completely meaningless - except for calculating BIK. They have no bearing on transaction costs, lease rates or PCP monthlies

      It won't do 374 miles ,their range estimates are a joke ! .
      Also , Ford hasn't got the name to be charging 500 quid a month for an SUV . That's the point ,Ford used to stand for value and they'd be the ones producing the cheap value EV to rival Dacia . Now they're so far up themselves they think the Ford badge is as good as Kia or Hyundai ,it's not,let alone Audi etc . 500 quid also buys you a Tesla,you'd be stupid to buy a Ford over a tesla.

    In The Netherlands, the rwd long range version gets you further than any other EV for that price, plus it is a rather cool looking compact SUV with lots of spacious elements, fast, quiet, big enough, good screens, comfy seats and again: good looking. • @Jaw0lf

    Well said Dave, we do need cars to be cheaper and sticking extra tariffs on to make importing cars the same price as legacy is trying to sell is only hurting consumers and then the legacy carmakers who are not trying. Let the cheap cars in and force the legacy car makers to compete and change how they do things to make it work. Ford relying on their name will work so far, but as more options for new cars appear in the £20k's market, it will get people looking at what is being provided.

    I'm afraid you are well wide of the mark on this one, its priced competitively with the competition and below a base spec Model Y. That's before considering legacy auto pricing is basically meaningless, no one pays RRP for a car and the only time they have was during the covid carmageddon. No roof rails. No 17 inch rims (18 might be OK). No heated stearingwheel. Disapointing. On the other hand, 20cm ground clearing is decent, but not sure it has got any extra protection under or in front.
    Im not looking for an Off Road car, but gravel, muddy and snowy roads is not uncommon here. Root-stubbs and embedded rocks and deep wheel tracks are other common obstacles.
    Back to the roof mounting options. Expensive proprietary mounts is the only option so far. I fear they wil lead to leaks in the door and scratches in the paint. I want various roof-cargo. Canoe, Bikes, Roof tent, power aggregate, Water barrel, skies and other outdoors life equipement. So I made several instagram names in vain in anticipation....

    Higher-specs, admittedly, are going to be difficult to justify at £55k, and won’t sell well. Similarly, I fear new Capri (a rehashed ID5) won’t do well in general, as people will see through the marketing link to a former great model!

Why the blank front panels, slitty headlights and all the power sapping unnecessary lights and gadgets. If EV's looked, felt, and operated exactly like conventional cars with switches and dashboards, a "gearstick" to select direction and even a mechanical handbrake, they would be far more acceptable and easier to adapt to. 😮interesting video, good to see sensible and fair criticism of the new EV offerings, I think we must also factor in that the battery is also a purchase forward of fuel, so comparing ICE straight to and EV is disingenuous. When you factor the cost of servicing and fueling etc for a long term EV purchase (let’s say 6 years) the difference drops a lot. Not all of the difference, but a lot. I would also say that we must not just measure the benefits and drawbacks on cash terms, I am a parent and see value in not driving a car that pollutes at the tailpipe. The EV is not the solution, but it is a step in the right direction. Personally I think we need to try not to alienate either ICE or EV drivers as this is unhelpful, and we also need to accept car manufacturers have a real job on pivoting their model to EV from ICE, with a lot of societal issues that will no doubt come from the changes.

    I sat in one at the Excel show, not too bad. Vicky Parrot did a nice review, says it drives well but doesn't have a notable USP. It needs sharper pricing of course and Ford lacks a full range, we await a Puma EV. Ford is in a hole with the 2024 UK ZEV mandate, so it will be forced to either offer deals on this near the end of the year or start pulling its ICE cars from the UK or both!! Could be deals on the PHEV Kuga too so it gets ZEV points.

However I could not bring myself or justify spending £50k for a Ford. I guess they don't want mass market customers that helped grow them to the company they are now, they want to move up to the BMW customers, who prefer a more luxurious vehicle, however of course it is not a BMW, I thought they were talking about getting back to building cars the masses wanted? For 23.300 Euro you have a good SUV with 100kW charger and 320km range.

    It doesn't have to be equal in price with a ICE car, EV running cost are lower, so that 5k to 10k difference is no problem over the periode of 3 to 5 years.

      Depends on your use case on these - I’d buy a pre-reg or 6 month old EV version as the running costs if you home charge are miniscule. If you can’t home charge, the petrol makes more sense.

    Hi Dave in your opinion how would you encourage the majority to buy an EV? take away the temporary incentives and government interference, e.g. their so called mandate. I and my wife own 2 cars, 1 van. 2 diesel, 1 petrol. I use the diesel 4x4 to pull a horse box and livestock trailer this can reach 2.4 tons. Journeys vary from 50 to 120 miles and back. My wife is a local home visiting nurse so needs the car on the road in a rural area up to 14 hours in a day, ready to go The van is mainly used by my son to ferry engineering equipment. He does have another van too. How would you persuade me to go electric?

    • @peteglass3496
      @peteglass3496 2 місяці тому

      The new EX30 or early versions of the Hyundai Kona E and Kia e-Niro both with long warranties would do the visiting nurse fine as long as you can have home charging. There should be second hand e-Vivaros, large battery version, around by now or the recent version of the e-Transit, nothing's cheap. A couple more years and there should be more ex-fleet vans on the market. Horsebox a tough call - only an imported left-hand drive F150 Lightning towing up to 4.5t for now. The Maxus pickup won't do the weight, the BMW iX will tow 2.5t [with your spare £70-80k] and the T Model X just short at 2.3t. If the use-case is straightforward there are choices now, the difficult ones will only arrive later in the decade. In 2027 when Euro7 comes in, fossil cars will cost more.

      @@peteglass3496 Im in the UK, so things like the Lightening F150 will never be available. I think I will wait for a few more years before seeing what the changes will be. I think the most likely choices for both replacements will be Toyota RAV4 hybrid and Landrover Defender 110 hybrid maybe the choice in the future. We already have a Euro 6 4x4 so that gets around those ULEZ scams, not that we go into cities much. But thanks anyway. Oh yes the vans, I think that will stay as diesel, because of the high mileage it does and the weight it carries, plus my son has no time for EV charging and business is business that is more important for the commercial travelling.

  • @wonderingworld119
    @wonderingworld119 2 місяці тому

    Why would someone in UK buy a Ford over a Nissan, when the Ford is £10,000 more and... Ford do not manufacture any cars what so ever in the UK. At least Nissan actually makes some cars in the UK today, which is something every single one of us benefit from. Ford have not made a single car in the UK for over 15 years now, and have not made any vehicle what so ever here for over 10 years. Why do people buy them? I can understand Tesla having kerb and supercharger appeal, and are at least giving something back in the way of cheap fast open to all charging which our charging network needs, but Ford give us nothing apart from a financial deficit. Stop buying them and buy something that gives back, be it jobs or at least a large fast cheap open to all network.
