Some people would wonder why you would do such a simple repair. because if you do not have any basic skills you need to build on simple things first. I have taught a few people that did not know how to work a screw driver how to do complete brake jobs and have gone on to do bigger repairs. confidence helps build your skill set. So that's where that nut is. Thanks! '02 van with 5.9. I replaced the idler pulley yesterday day and that fixed the intermittent squeal but I bought the tensioner assembly also instead of just the idler pulley so I'll replace that in the morning.
@@semperfimechanic the squeal is gone. I drove 100 miles on I-40 through through the high hills of Arizona today and she runs like new... practically. I WD'd the bolt today and see if I can get that nut off the tensioner.
Thanks for the step by step brother! Aside from changing oil and tires, I've never done anything like this. Did it in just under an hour (needed a 2nd pair of hands for the belt). Other than that, shit was simple. Earned a sub for the simplicity and personality. TYFYS btw o7 🇺🇸
Yes it is man just depends on what vehicle and what setup the cars got but basically it's all the same job and that is to keep the belt under tension while on the pulleys
It's not real important, but if you have a buddy with a welder, it would be good to get that bracket welded back together. I would tack weld it while still installed if you can get to it, to hold the correct position, then remove it and weld it up. It will probably be fine as it is, and I wouldn't go to a weld shop (they will want a bunch of money), but if you know someone or happen to work for customer that has a welder at home, I'd knock it out. The negative on leaving it broken will be extra vibration felt by the coil than if it was properly supported, and don't want to add stress to the coil.
@@semperfimechanic - If you know anyone that welds, maybe you could barter (you could do an oil change in exchange for them welding your bracket)? Or, you could save up and get a cheapo flux core welder from Harbor Freight. I got one and didn't take too much practice to make two pieces of metal stick together. I think I had $200 in it total and found I use it a lot more than I ever thought I would. My welds aren't pretty but that is what a grinder if for after the weld! Ha. You have to use a tap and die set. Google how to use a tap and die set for broken bolt. Now if you can get a pair of pliers on it you can back it out. Use a torch to heat it up

I’ve heard that being called a bunch of things, belt tensioner, accessory belt, serpentine belt, pulley belt, etc.
Yes it is man just depends on what vehicle and what setup the cars got but basically it's all the same job and that is to keep the belt under tension while on the pulleys
It's not real important, but if you have a buddy with a welder, it would be good to get that bracket welded back together. I would tack weld it while still installed if you can get to it, to hold the correct position, then remove it and weld it up. Don’t have to remove bracket bolts just remove the two Phillips screws holding the ingnition coil.
