Each car in the exhibit ranging from early 1900’s up to modern day, they list the msrp compared to average household income at the time, as well as msrp adjusted for modern dollar value. In general, the cars have gotten cheaper compared to income over time.

      Well the guy I got from said that it hadn't been changed and I haven't changed it in the 9 years I've owned it. Does the trans have numbers on it to proof that its original to this truck? If so I will try to find the numbers and take a picture to proof it.

    • @theramquest4advanture.
      @theramquest4advanture. 2 роки тому

      I don't guess you would believe that it still has cold A/C either and I think I charged it up one time about 4 or 5 years ago and it still works good so far. The truck does need some work, like exhaust work, needs A frame bushings on drivers side but other then that the front end is ok, needs painting, needs tires soon and a few things like that.
      I think the main thing that helped keep the trans going is that I put external trans coolers on it and I keep the trans fluid changed regular. I think the cooler in the radiator doesn't keep the trans cool enough. So the external trans coolers help keeps the trans cooler and on the road. Believe it or not all I know is I've put 90,000 miles on the truck myself and haven't changed the trans out yet.

Now, I will say that my transmission is getting worn out and my transfer case is not well. It’s a wonderful truck. They just need some love from time to time and that’s okay. I have loved these Dodge Rams since the first time I saw one in a magazine. When I was in college, I remember hearing the local Dodge dealer had one in stock, so we all loaded up and made a beeline down to see it. We all loved it. I knew I'd own one someday. I still have the Ram SS/T I bought new in 1998 and it has under 65k miles on the clock. I also had a 1997 Ram Cummins dually. It is still my favorite pickup truck bodystyle.
    All that said, I think this truck gets too much credit for revolutionizing the truck market. People forget that the GMT-400 (1988-1998 GM trucks) had flush window glass, no vent windows, a raked back windshield, and a more comfortable ride. It didn't have the bold stying of the 1994-2001 Dodge Rams, but they were the beginning of pickup trucks that were more car like.

    It was probably September or October of 1993....the 1994 Rams were arriving at Dodge dealerships.....I went to look at them and was talking with the sales rep who was really excited about having them to sell...and pointed over his shoulder to a 1993 Chevy Silverado...and said, "see the Chevy over there? A guy just bought it a few months ago and had to trade it for the new Ram." Considering how long the previous truck was around this was a huge change.
    I kind of miss those days...Chrysler was purging itself of it's old design and was introducing a new product almost annually...from the Viper...to the LH cars, the Neon, the Ram...the Cloud Cars...and the third gen minivans.

    Those 360 Magnums (5.9 L) were rated at 235 horsepower. You could buy that same production engine without that beer keg intake, but with a traditional 4 barrel intake, and it made 300. Most that went on a dyno actually made more than that, with a basic carb. They also used moly rings, and even after 200k miles, you could still see the crosshatch on the cylinder walls.

    • @joshpodolsky7740
      @joshpodolsky7740 2 роки тому +2

      Just so you know just because you can still see crosshatch doesn't mean it's functional anymore. Plenty of modern engines you will see cross hatch even after hundreds of thousands of miles. But the grooves are so minute that they barely function anymore.

      @@joshpodolsky7740you are correct. The few high mileage 360 I have pulled the heads on you could see the cross hatches but the cylinder no longer had the dull crosshatch look you get when first hone the cylinder. More of polished look. Needless to say the block never had a lot of wear in the cylinder walls, in general the bottom ends on 318-360 don’t usually wear out or have issues.

    I think the GMT400 was the first 'modern' pickup truck. There was nothing else like them when they came out in 1988. They were the first full size pickups to use double wishbone-style IFS on 4x4 models. The half-tons were almost like the big body-on-frame cars of the 70s: pretty smooth ride, over boosted power steering, extremely comfortable front seats, etc. They're quite pleasant to drive, even now.

      @@bobhill3941 That's pretty cool! There's been a lot of these trucks in my family over the years, the last one being a 1998 Sierra Z71. Extended cab with 3rd door, Indigo Blue Metallic. Unfortunately, the engine overheated and it lost all compression. I probably would've swapped another 350 in, but the body was so rusted out by then I decided to sell it. It only had around 151k on it. Lotta memories in that truck, which we still refer to as the "blue truck". Everybody loved driving it. I learned to drive in it. My stepfather bought it used in 2006, and replaced it in 2014 with a 2012 Silverado. It was handed down to me after that. My mom found it much easier to drive than the 2012, which she finds rather bulky and cumbersome. I miss that truck, so much that I'm often driving it in my dreams.

    I don't own a Dodge Ram of that era. I do own a 1999 Dodge Dakota Club Cab 5.2l NV-3500HD 5-speed 3.90 Sure Grip 2wd with the HD Service Group. It doesn't have the issues that plague its Bigger Brother the Ram like the Dash disintegrating. I've only had a couple small issues arise in the 230,000 miles of faithful service. The factory water pump finally failed about 2000 miles ago so I order up brand new Gates Water Pump kit and Hoses replaced the Idler and Tensioner Pulleys and Serpentine Belt for a total cost of $212 dollars. The Clutch was replaced about 100,000 miles ago with a CenterForce II and Pressure plate as I accidentally smoked the stock clutch getting a forklift that got high centered on a concrete driveway. I run Mobil 1 Synthetic Motor Oil with Wix XP Filter. Up Next is a full suspension upgrade with all Mevotech Parts with Bilstein Shocks. I paid $18,795 for my Dakota Brand New and it keeps on delivering years after years of faithful service. I use it daily to tow my Lawn Utility Trailer. With the cost of new pickups these days reaching into the $100k mark I will just keep on fixing up my Old Truck and enjoy it for another couple decades.

The engine sounded mean and old school, but those magnum engines were a lot weaker than what they were rated at. In 98 the 5.9 made 245 hp & 335 lbs/ft of torque. My 97 Fl150 had the same setup as my dads and had a 2v 5.4 with the non Pi heads making only 235 hp & 330 lbs/ft of torque, but it would walk away from my dads truck, did much better up hills and with a load on it as well.

    This truck ushered in what we see today in pickups. But my friend had a almost new 1500 sport RAM 360 ext cab 97' model year was worked and at young age we practically lived outta it interior room was better than others. But reliability not there ! Tranny's and when it worked not precise. The other issues was the front end would fall out daily! The transfer case blew twice too weak for that model and weight . The 360 always performed good , but mpg wasn't a joke at all vs my 350 GMC. It is a truck that needs to be built and customized after purchasing then perfect! But we would all go off road and they would hang with Square body's and jeep's.
