This is a prime example of one of the many reasons I have SO MUCH respect for Emily and Ed!!
They're reptile professionals, have YEARS of experience, literally own a zoo, and they're still continuing their education! They both are such great role models for how everyone should look at animal keeping! You'll never know everything, so never stop learning!

A small request, some people (like myself) really rely on the subtitles to be able to understand your videos, ESPECIALLY when masks are being worn. The subtitles auto generate at the bottom of the screen, so they cover up any notes that you add there. It would be really helpful to your deaf viewers and anyone who relys on the subtitles if you could put the notes somewhere else on the screen whenever possible. Either at the top or to the side of a shot would be great.
Thank you for including subtitles in your videos, they are very helpful.

Almost 2 decades since I've lived in northern California. So nice to see all the herps that live there again. Including the rattlers. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. By-the-by, we only have three species of snake in Tasmania, all venomous, and two highly (both elapids).

    • @Lori0Tas
      @Lori0Tas 2 роки тому

@@elizabethandcookie4816 Tiger snake, and the Copperhead snake, who are both elapids, and can be mistaken for one another. The third species is the tiny White-lipped snake. Venomous, but hard-pressed actually to bite you. We have one beautiful Blue-tongue skink, 14 smaller skinks, and one lizard species. All cold adapted to one degree or another.

That’s so awesome I love how much they support others in the community and it’s amazing they they are still learning tips and tricks anyone who thinks they know it all knows the minimum bc there is always room to grow!! I wish there where more classes like this throughout the whole country bc so many ppl still kill snakes out of fear and out dated knowledge passed down especially in the south where every single grandma will say they only good snake is a dead snake!! Save the snakes is doing amazing things I hope they get the support they need!! Congratulations to them for doing such great work!!

Great video. I’d love to do a workshop like this. My only experience of handling a wild snake was when I offered to grab a large carpet python that had made its way into a bathroom in a regional hospital here in Australia. He was curled around the toilet pedestal and the person in the room had been using the toilet for a couple of days and hadn’t noticed the snake. All I could do was grab the snake behind the head and try to unwind it. He didn’t like that at all. I took him outside into some parkland and let him go. Even all these years later I can’t think how I plucked up the courage to do it. I don’t think I could manage to do it today.

Unfortunately, there’s a couple towns in my area that still do Rattlesnake Roundups. People that are opposed to them on the basis of them being cruel are seen as overly sensitive weirdos that just go around looking for anything to get upset about. After all, they’re “just snakes”.
It’s really difficult to get them shut down because they bring in money for these little towns and bring in tourists. And locals see it as a good thing because they like the idea of cutting down on the number of rattlers in the area (then they wonder why there’s a boom in the rodent population after the roundup).
There’s also a prevalent attitude of “the only good snake is a dead snake”, so gopher snakes, rat snakes, hognoses, water snakes, garters, etc often get rounded up and/or killed in the excitement over the Roundup.
The snakes at the roundup are put on display, messed with, forced to “race”, used as if they are toys for people’s entertainment, tortured, and then killed as entertainment (sometimes not effectively, so instead of dying quickly, they die slowly bleeding to death or suffocating in a bag of decapitated snake bodies).
    Basically, it’s horrific.
If it were being done to an animal species with fur and not scales people would be *outraged* but because snakes are “scary” (and frankly, because Christianity has associated them with Satan) it’s fine and even noble to treat them this way.
Honestly, they should be made illegal.

Post stats on how many rats and mice are killed by rattlers alone in town, and multiply that by number of snakes killed. Shame people that if they have rodent problems, it's their own fault. It's a jerk move, but it might have some benefit

Rock To my knowledge the most Texas Parks and Wildlife has done is proposed a ban on “gassing”. That’s where hired poachers flood rattlesnake dens with gasoline in order to grab them.
This ban was seen as a first step towards stopping Roundups entirely or turning them in to education events.
But instead of just banning gassing outright, Texas Parks and Wildlife decided to get together a committee on it.
More than a third of the members of the committee were from the town that holds the nation’s largest Rattlesnake Roundup every year.
You can guess how they felt about any attempts to ban gassing or limit anything having to do with Roundups. And you can probably guess whether or not the ban passed.
That was in 2016 and to my knowledge nothing big has been attempted since.

We still have rattlesnake roundups every year in my state (OK) Its called the rattlesnake festival they round up all kinds, put them in a cold room in a wooden fence thing with some plexiglass spots(for kids to see them) and a guy grabbing random rattlesnakes (with a hook)and pointing out what kind of rattlesnake they are. I always went to them as a kid never knew they were bad. You'd often have to pay to get in too. But otherwise the festival was just a normal thing, food trucks, and booths and such.

Love this vid just like all others!! Going along with other comments, Emily and Ed are so humble because they have so much experience with reptiles, yet they go to others and ask for help when they need it and they didn’t just jump into the program without doing the proper training with handling venomous snakes 🐍🐍 I also want to make a video request! I love Doug the boa constrictor so much, he’s probably my fav snake on your channel! I would LOVE a boa constrictor care guide and facts about them since I will be getting one soon, and I have done all my research on them, but I would love having a trusted video to go to. Being from texas, we were actually taught and grow up knowing that the symbolism for the rattlesnake was more along the lines of literally don’t tread on us or we’ll bite back. As in, respect us and our space and we won’t hurt you. Just had to point that out!! Lol it’s not to say “we’ll get you, snakes chase and hurt you” 😅😂

This is awesome! I really could have used this training a while back, we found a copperhead at an amusement park and it would have been great to know how to move it to a trash can to contain it 😂 it unfortunately ended up going under a vending machine so they had to call in animal control to move it. Normally I would leave a snake alone but I didn't want it to bite someone who walked up to get something from the machine!
