I would not have thought to have the rudder leading instead of trailing. If it works that is great. I have the same rudder but haven't tried it out yet.

I use this rudder on a simple PVC setup when im on electric only lakes and using my bow mount electric trolling motor. Keeps the stern from swinging out in the wind when trolling etc.

I have been wondering why the top of the rudder is diagonal and not straight out? There is one commercial one I've seen is straight but some have a.curve but why? By the way I put the diagonal part closer to the motor because my Watersnake motor is not that long and the instructions for the rudder says you can do that if there is a prop clearance problem. I am thinking so long the whole rudder is in the water it doesn't matter which way you put it on.

I bought this same rudder for my boat, but I mounted it upside down and the trailing edge. I see you have it mounted on the leading edge of your motor. The way I mounted it, I'm getting less rudder in the water, but it clears the prop. I'm wondering if I should turn it around and put it on the leading edge and get more rudder in the water? What's your thoughts?
