TIP: Human Hair Ventilation, natural returns

  • In this video I'll show you my technique for ventilating human hair. when you fold the hair to form the loop so you can ventilate the hair into a knot on the lace you must be aware of how you do it so you won't waste time and hair.
    You need to fold it low enough for the return roots to be able to fall flat on the head, so in this case you don't want them to be too short
    On the other hand if you make the return roots long enough, (in our video a10 centimeters which is about 4 inches) you still have to deal with a problem that will occur, the returns will end in the same spot so at that spot you will have a blunt cut of hair and then the rest of the hair is going to fall much thinner. So we don't want to have a single point where all the returns end.
    So the last thing you want to remember is that you need to layer the roots before you ventilate them, by puling them slightly and make them be different in length than the other returns so the return roots will gradually start to finish and until the last returns finish you will have a more seamless return cut.
    I hope this helped you

    Hi again. Thank you again for another excellent video. A question about looping the hair, I was under the impression that the hair can be looped between 2" and 4". Would you advise on 4" personally, or does it depend on the length of the hair that you would be working on.
    If you were making a short wig, what would you suggest so as not to get the returns near the root?
    No matter what length you do your video's they would still be great to watch as they are trully informative and well demonstrated. You are a great teacher, thanks again.

    • @SuperWigMaker
      @SuperWigMaker  10 років тому +5

      OK here is my 5 cents to that.
      There is no point where it is better for you to fold. It is always up to your likeness. But there are several things to take into consideration when you fold the hair.
      ---->Two inches is a no to me... to spiky returns, I mean if you have to have so short returns then make it 1 inch, at least the spikes won't fly so high! Unless you always use products on your wigs (and especially roots) and thus you keep all the little short strands stuck to the longer returns with either hair spray or hair gel.
      Also 2 inches is a no for me for the reason that the first 2 inches of the head will have too much thickness and after 2 inches the thickness will drop by half (cause the returns will stop there). So that short returns won't work in my opinion.
      ---->Four inches are rather OK, for average length wig it is going to be just fine, laying flat enough without even many hair products, friction and non-remy effect is only in 4 first inches so it is not a tangling fear and back-combing these 4 inch returns won't make a big problem if you are careful enough!
      For too long wigs you just need to make sure that you will layer the returns as well, and do it enough so the spot that the returns end won't be any visible at all and it will mimic the natural human growth - shorter strands of hair that are still growing.
      ----> Layering the returns, it is even more important than layering the ends, cause maybe a haircut has a blunt cut at the ends but the returns cannot be a blunt cut inside the body of the wig otherwise it will be like a mushroom size wig and some tails falling below it
      For Short wigs Remy doesn't even matter, cause lets say you want to make a pixy cut wig or even a bob cut wig. For the pixy cut you dimply fold the hair into half and then do your thing, it doesn't matter, no tangling for that length. For a bob cut wig you can keep the 4 inches returns (layered of course) and this is going to look even more natural than the really long wigs because returns and ends will be seamlessly almost the same size, with the returns fading gradually and the tails being not too long so the blend better with the returns.
      (sorry for the big reply!)

    Hi superwigmaker, i just start ventilating couples month ago, and just finish my first lace frontal unit,,i lives in Malaysia which is very hard to get perfect stuff to making a lace wigs..so i just working with what i have,,the result is not perfect like yours,, my question is are we gonna ventilate with single strand single knots for whole unit??btw ur videos help me a lots,, and sorry for my bad broken english...

    • @SuperWigMaker
      @SuperWigMaker  8 років тому +3

      +Jefryfifie Fifie You don't have to ventilate single strand single knot the whole unit, it would take you too much time to finish, it is not impossible but it is not necessary.
      Usually we do single strand single knot (which I call high definition or simply HD) the hairline obviously and the top part if we want the extra detail, where we do the parting. Everything else can be half definition (2 strands per knot) or in the back and lower areas we can do even more strands per knot.

      I have another question when it comes to ventilation of the wig, when ventilating a wig in what part of the wig is it appropriate to use single, double or spilt knot. for example for the crown would it be best to use single knot with 3 strands and the front border of the hair single or split knot with single strand

    • @SuperWigMaker
      @SuperWigMaker  10 років тому +2

      In the back of the wig and lower part of it you can do it bulky with double knots cause it won't be visible unles you plan to make pig-tales or other things that will make parting in that area. You can even stitch some wefts there it won't be visible.
      For the top part of the wig crown, parting area etc, you need a little bit more detail and if you can don't do double knots unless you can do them tight enough. If your wig is going to be dark then you should bleach those knots especially if they are double otherwise it will be hideous.
      If you don't really plan to have the wig parted in a lot of different spots (like you make a wig that will be side part and that's it) then you can do it rather bulky in all areas except those 2~3 inches of line where the parting is going to be (like 1 inch in one side of the parting and another 1 inch in the other side of parting will be enough to have it natural and conceal the rest bulkier spots). Think about it as a closure spot, where you have a 2 inch wide by 4 inch deep on the part you wanna do the parting, and it all starts from hairline going backwards.
      For the hairline, there is nothing to say, single knots, single strand all the way, at least 1~1,5 inches from hairline and don't do the hairline dense, you needs to determine where your hair will end, then do the first half inch fading from sparse hair to denser and then fill the rest inch again with single knots and single strands if possible.
      ~~~~~
      Of course it always matters how much detail you wanna put. Right now I am making a full single strand single knot wig (a full High Definition unit that celebrities wear) it will take some months to finish! Talking about vanity!
    Super wig maker pls am not having any eye problems but ventilating seems a little bit difficult for me because the holes are too small. Is it good to find glasses to zoom the holes a little bit so that it will be easy for me to ventilate on. I jump too much lines while ventilating because I can't see the holes very well. Some times I take more strains of hair instead of one as I wanted.
      So far I have created a handful of professional things, one wig was still in the making when it was thrown away by my mother accidentally (it is the very first white synthetic wig video I have in my channel)
      Then I did the Dante wig that I have ruined when I cut it, cause that wig was not meant to be short
      Then I did 2 closures that I gave to two different friends I know
      And right now I am making my very first full lace human hair high definition wig, that I have captured some phases that I explain, but the wig still needs a lot of work to finish so the video will not be ready within the next weeks.
      ~~~~~
      So to answer your question, no I haven't sold anything and don't know if I'll enter this industry. The reasons are numerous, I am broke so I must find a job, I cannot work easily because I still live with my parents and wigs are my secret.
      But most importantly I am not sure that what make is worthy of sell. I love my pieces and I think I give too much detail to them so maybe they worth a lot. But so far I don't even know if I can (or want to) sell stuff.

    Do you seal your knots?if yes what do you use?

    • @SuperWigMaker
      @SuperWigMaker  10 років тому +10

      Oh the sealing of the knots.. this is another thing that is a taboo, nobody ever talked about that, not a single freaking product to do it correctly.
      I tried in ventilated test pieces the glues, the super glues, the resins even nail polish. All of them have problems with the application and the amount of product being poured into the knots from the inside of the wig.
      The only thing that can work for me as it is now is the Got2b Glue hairspray that is resisting 1~2 washes so when you apply it inside (it is a hairspray for extreme haircuts, so I apply it like spraying hair, only I spray lightly the inside of the wig) and in the next wash I'll re-apply it.
      But so far even if I don't seal the knots, since my ventilation has pretty much singe strand single knot or maximum of two strand single knot I usually don't have shedding.
      Plus shedding can only occur when you wash the hair and the knot loosens up because of the moisture and the tendency of the hair to revert back to its original shape (which is not a knot obviously)... so if you wash your unit on a mannequin head, and do it correctly (not like you wash you own head and scramble the hair) from roots to ends without too much teasing, the unit won't tangle and won't shed!
      But I am still in the journey to find a PERMANENT way to make this!

    • @SuperWigMaker
      @SuperWigMaker  10 років тому +1

      The white resin glues that have a body even when they set are a huge no, first they never last forever, they produce white powder if rubbed when they dry and they put colour to the knots as well.
      Super glue would be an amazing way BUT it is so runny that one drop will soak the whole strand from knot to the ends, so if it was possible to drop it with a tiny syringe tip maybe and this of course would mean that you would have to do it individually for EVERY knot in the unit so then it would be an application labour intensive job!

    • @seanduran3518
      @seanduran3518 9 років тому

      Super Wig Maker Dear Super Wig maker
      i am still a little confused about your tip for the returns i bought some russian virgin hair that has cuticle and i plan to use it for a full lace wig however i know that 4 inch returns on virgin hair will get tangeled
      do you really recommend that a factory will process the 4 inch return and make the wig like that? wouldn't that ruin the quality of the hair? because the factory stripes down the cuticle with acid and then covers it with silicone but then what will happen after 1 year when the silicone washes off and the returns may start tangle a very expensive unit...???
      wouldn't it be safer to do a 1 to 1.5 inch return ?again its russian hair so the return shouldn't poke up ? but if the returns do poke up does that have to do with the ventilation technique?

    • @SuperWigMaker
      @SuperWigMaker  9 років тому +1

      Sean Duran
      Well if you could strip off the cuticles with the "Taki" method where they use some chemicals to remove the scales of the returns do it and let us know how you did it, so we can do it ourselves!
      You can do 2 inches, I usually do a feathered 2~4 inches and there is not much tangling, anyway at this length at that area hair usually just sits on your head, it doesn't move around freely so as to tangle.
      Russian hair is very thin so maybe shorter returns won't be that obvious.
      But 1 inch returns, I am sure they will just be more obvious, if you are going to have them short, do it at least 2 inches just to be safe that they will be long enough to at least lay flat with the rest of the hair with some hairspray if needed.
      My tips are just tips on how I do it. Most people do just 2 inch returns without feathering them and not caring for the spiky returns if they are there.

      Latch hook is big and you need big holed lace to work on, plus it doesn't grab the hair it is supposed to like a needle, it can grab even 200 strands at one pull so you need to visually see how many strands it grabs.

    Hi, I saw that you are removed my comment about the returns., what can I do with returns if I have virgin remy cuticle hair? How long could be made the returns to prevent the tangles and matting and to avoid that the returns don't stick up? Why no one explain this important tip?

    • @SuperWigMaker
      @SuperWigMaker  10 років тому

      No I didn't remove ANY comments, the problem is that youtube makes some comments as spam and I have to review them but when I click "approve" it simply does nothing.
      I never EVER delete comments, I am actually making videos because of comments!
      For the returns we always have the problem of back combing.
      There is a technique to remove the cuticles only in the roots of the bundled hair so when you ventilate, the part that is going to be a "return" is not going to have cuticles. BUT this is factory business, I personally cannot do it myself mostly because I don't know what products and method to use so as to do it.
      So a good way to not having a tangling problem is to minimized the length of the returns while making sure to have them a little feathered, as mentioned in this video. Also you have rather big enough returns (again as mentioned in the video) so as not to have the spiky effect, only in the areas that are going to have hair parted.... aka the top and front of the unit.
      In the rest of the unit, the returns being feathered or not, can be a minimum length and thus they will act the same way the "beard" of a weft acts. They won't create a problem but you can even go ahead and trim them a little once you ventilated them, so as to minimized them even more. BUT again, this only in the parts that your hair won't be seeing the light so as not to have spiky hair protruding from your unit

    Is it possible to strip the cuticle 4 inches and use that area for ventilating? Because I still see a problem with partial cuticle correct rubbing up again cuticle backwards. it puffs and tangles up in wear. What would I use to remove the cuticle?

      +AJoi B I also searched for that, there is a method to remove scales but it requires chemicals that I am not sure where I could find, the method is called" The Taki Method" and they submerge the hair in a liquid that contains some chemicals, one fo the chemicals is similar to the hair removal cremes but in much much less concentration, they keep the hair in movement in the water, shaking it and after some time the hair loses the outer scales.
      It would be a very very good way to do it, I tried to do the same but I am not sure I can do that, at least not now with the knowledge and items it requires. It would be great to be able to make like 5~6 inches of no scales in the root to have even longer returns that would lay flat and wouldn't look too ugly.

    Am I the only one who wonders why you wouldn't just cut the returns very short? I tried to look through the comments, but there are so many. I'm just a spectator here I have never ventilated a wig, so I'm sure I'm missing something.

      This is an Asian needle, I ventilate faster with it and I love it. It is small and you can do the ventilation really fast.
