Ayne IV I think you have to understand their currency is different than from dollars. $100 in America is not the same in Vietnam. Like the video stated, she would be able to buy livestock with that money that will provide her more money. You can’t buy livestock in America with just $100
I literally had chills when that lovely lady was told that with her short hair she looked "young, fresh and really pretty" her reaction was soooo sweet.
The girl who sold her hair for books and tuition looks so happy to finally have enough money to get proper school supplies and I’m really happy for her!
The fact that we pay $1500-2000 for hair yet somebody offered them $3 is FOUL… truly sickening… I wish I could give my money to them directly😩😩😩 I hope these women still feel as beautiful on the outside as they are on the inside🤍

Right she was so ginuwine sweet and beautiful !! You could tell , it made me so happy to see that lady happy about it since she was scared of how she’d look before
As a Vietnamese girl and love long, smooth, natural hair. I understand very well how difficult the care process can be. Honesty, to have beautiful and long hair, it is not possible to calculate the care time by days and weeks but by months and years. It took me over five years to get my hair from shoulder length to waist length. We love our hair very much, it is not only about our beliefs but also about our spiritual values. It breaks my heart when women have to sell their hair for their lives and pay unjust and undeserved prices. Please do not say bitter words to the reluctant, unlucky women who have to sell their hair.
Chao Chị! Thank you for putting what I felt in words. As a Vietnamese girl it also infuriates me to ever hardly hear about the criminalizing acts that America did to Vietnam, leaving our country to shredded pieces, and to see that the effects continue. The women's hair that are so pure, nuanced, and one-of-a-kind gets sold to American companies that capitalize off of many woman's impoverishment and lack of establishment to build a better life for herself and her family, therefore causing her to be compelled to sell her hair as there is no option not to. It will always pierce my heart whenever our people live through these abhorrent expenses that take a toll on their well-being and innocence. It is forever undeserving and Vietnam has never done anything to deserve this. All of these comments largely made by Americans if not solely made by Americans just prove to be that they still don't get it and that they cannot come close to comprehending how the monstrosity of the Vietnam War transcends to Vietnam's current life-threatening issues. They want our hair as accessories but fail to respect us... :/
@@Ehaen I'm not American, {UK} and think it's so wrong that women should be exploited for their hair, which is naturally raven black, glossy and like silk. It ends up on the heads of wealthy women, on film stars..a neighbour {UK} makes wigs for Hollywood elite, they are many many thousands of pounds for even a short hair wig, A long one would be a small fortune. {Neighbour is a well respected wigmaker, but lives in a modest house} If the Vietnamese women were given Thousands for their hair, it would be much fairer. The ''End user'' is likely a multi millionaire American who uses the very finest Vietnamese hair. The Vietnam War was awful. Barbaric. People are still suffering from birth defects from defoliants.
it is because black women are too lazy to look after and grow their own hair, they dont care one bit about vietnamese ladies, they are very racist to you in USA.
I actually cried after the First Lady said that she’s scared of cutting her hair. It’s so awful how people are scamming these ladies by only giving them $2-3 and I was so happy that she was receiving $100+
Gabby I know but it’s still seems bad because she took a long time to grow it and make it beautiful and they get paid about 100$ but when they sell the wigs they sell them way more expensive

ikr 。in east,south-east and especially south asian countries, the biggest trend for thousands of years is to have beautiful, long, luscious hair 。you've probably seen indian women with super long hair that can reach their legs, because our culture has been that way for thousands of years 。whenever i'm in malaysia, nearly everyone, including many males, have super long and flowing hair 。。
So disheartening, I have been wearing human hair for over 15 years without ever thinking about where it comes from. Watching this with tears in my eyes for women who get scammed off their hair and for those who sell their much needed hair to support their families. If I am ever going to wear human hair again, I'd buy from this Dan guy, but I may never be wearing human hair ever again.
That's a good decision 👏 maybe you don't have to give it up completely though. It seems you like real hair wigs/extensions a lot and would be a shame for you to lose them. So maybe you can do some research on what you're getting before buying and only get the best of the best. Good luck
I just got extensions because my own hair is too sparse due to health issues. It cost me a LOT of money. But thinking of how most of that money went to the dealer and nearly none to the actual person who GREW my extensions, I've been feeling very weird. It's almost like an organ transplant and yet I felt so rushed and desperate to have decent hair that I had no money to get to know where it even came from.
Idk. I've had my hair cut in a country which is one of the biggest exporters of hair for extensions. The hairdresser's just save the hair as they cut it instead of letting it fall. I didn't even understand what they were doing honestly thought they just wanted to save time on cleaning up. Now I realise they probably collected it for sale didn't even know. It's not always like this
We need more people like this guy...I got emotional seeing him cutting the hair in such a caring, respectful and dignified manner. May his business grow from strength to strength.
Instead of just putting it into a ponytail, cutting it, and leaving her with a horrible hairstyle, he made a beautiful bob. That shows the kind of person he is, he pays fairly and cuts hair into beautiful styles.
Bruh she can get chocolate or a nice notebook or lays, just go to dollar tree bruh, I would cut my hair 4 some of these cuz I don't care about how tall my hair is
Mavis H their hair will grow back better and faster I wish god gave black female hair like thAt so we would have to but other people hair but I guess it all works out in the end it helps them and us but I never had a weave before am scare to lose my edges
The attention and care he puts into making sure the lady selling him her hair can walk away and still feel beautiful and her hair won't be damaged is so beautiful😢
She's selling her hair cause she needs money. Not because she wants to loose her natural beautiful. Soft .attractive. real hair. That's actually attached to her scalp .
So then men need to give women more attention so they can learn to love & accept themselves???? 🤔 Sad ppl ALWAYS want what they can't have. ☹️ The poor sell their beautiful crown for $ so someone that has low self-esteem can feel somewhat better about themselves. SAD world 💔🤦

If I wanted to buy another humans hair, I would want to make sure it's fair trade. Wearing someones hair that was mugged from their head while sleeping is beyond creepy.
I just got reminded of the time I went to get my hip length hair cut and the woman who cut it suddenly started collecting my hair saying she was gonna use my hair to sell it for extentions. I hadn't agreed to that but she wanted to make money outta my hair so I got ticked off and took my hair from her and donated it to a cancer charity. Learned my mistake (I should have gone there from the get go). I'm mostly indigenous so my hair was mostly straight with a hint of waviness so to that woman it was perfect for sale without my permission. My suggestion to folks, if you have really long good hair and want to get a shorter cut, donate it to those who need it before going to a salon or at least get a good deal for it. I almost got my free hair sold off (almost stolen off. That woman made plans for my hair without consulting me ffs) Glad this man actually gives these women good deals and great cuts too. Can't believe some people only offer 3$ for all that hair when some women with long hair might only cut it for financial reasons.

There is no dignity in any of this. Put yourself in her shoes. You can't pay your rent or afford food. I come along and wave $500 infront of you and say I'll help you out but I want your hair and you to shave your head. You'd do what you have to do but based solely on your facial expressions alone, you're broken. I can see it, so can everyone else. Now just to smoothe things over, I tell you you're beautiful...which you are but you obviously don't feel that way. Do you still feel dignified? A month later, your rent was paid and food was on the table but you're still missing your hair, you're unhappy and self concious and now it's the next month...and rent is due again. Do you still feel dignified? I have a hard time believing anybody would feel like they have dignity when they are left with no other option and are forced to sell a part of themselves merely to exist and not die from starvation or exposure. This is not empowering, it's not dignified, it's exploitation.
Egypt Cat of Denial I want to believe you’re a troll, so so fucking badly. The woman has the money to maybe buy supplies grow some tomatoes or something and sell them, she can also pay her rent off for the month. Hair is not the most important thing in a woman’s life, the moment you know your life is on the line you go ahead and sell what you can sell and not even for a low price, cutting your hair is not permanent either it can grow back jesus christ
This women is very sweet, you could see the pain in her eyes when she said “I’m going to be very sad after cutting it” and then smiles . And how she covered her face in her hair when the lady said she looked pretty 🥺

We need to look into the source of what we buy before we buy it! I hope that Dan's company becomes successful and that more companies follow Dan's footsteps.
this is so painful to watch . I have been offered money for my hair but refused . I am Bolivian and in bolivia there are indigenous women called cholitas that never cut their hair due to tradition . they have amazing thick dark hair most of the time below their butt and this extension trend has been eye opening for thief's. They literally mug them for their hair as it is easy because traditionally they wear hair in 2 braids always . so they cut , steal their hair and sell it to make wigs, extensions for 1st world countries . BEYOND FUCKED UP not to mention their hair = honor
@jaylen G. Isn’t that something? All it takes is two words to make someone’s day, and make them feel good about themselves, yet there’s so much meanness in the world. 💕
It's deep and simple. Beauty is what you choose to see or feel. One minute she was sad about losing her long hair, the next minute she became happy because someone else saw her beauty from another perspective. Kindness is sweet, kindness is humanity...
This genuinely made me tear up. I grew up in a place where I didn't associate my hair with my femininity, but rather it made me feel unsafe and targeted for the femininity it presented, and I've only recently started growing it out again. It's amazing to see the other side of the spectrum where these women pride and cherish their hair, and it can help their families and homes.

I kind of had to hold back tears for the lady, but they do look cute afterwards. The two-fold bonus and pain is that we release tons of energy in cutting that length of hair, that they have had energetic emotional investment in over a period of years. That's uncomfortable at first, but they will find it is also liberating and freeing
They were paid good. The exchange rate of US dollar for a lot of countries like theirs is really good. Also that type of hair grow so fast. In 3 months she will have long hair again. I know coz I’m Asian too. This trade is fair. I’m happy all these women picked him to sell their hair to.
@Tiffany Penaloza look I sort of see where your coming from but your talking about the difference between first of all 1-3 dollars only and being butchered or using him who gives them $100.00, (and leaves them with hair that's cut not too bad) which they can do so much with, should it be more hell yes but he's just starting out and wants to make a change and that's better than nothing. Plus you can't compare going to a salon in the US with these women who live out far from a city life, they are out in the country and have farms. It sort of restores my faith in humanity a little bit that Dan is so willing to make such a massive change in an industry that doesn't ordinarily care where it'd products come from. He could majorly screw these women over by cutting their hair so much shorter and paying less money, but not only does he give them all a gorgeous hairstyle, he pays them excellently too. Sure, the world can suck sometimes, but it's people like Dan who remind you that good people still exist even in industries such as this.

I know right. Massive respect right there. I love what he is representing and respecting women’s hair, because it is indeed a symbol of femininity, short or long, we wear it proudly to represent we are women, and instead of him cutting their hair sloppily and ruining their dignity and looks and wishes or making it too short without cleanup or to stop representing femininity, I respect that so much. I grew a very long hair in my late teens, almost like the woman in the video. And I loved it, because I was never allowed to have my hair that long due to the extreme maintenance of thick hair when I couldn't take care it myself during elementary and middle school. But once I was 14, I never allowed another barber to come near my hair. Fast forward 5 years, depression hits due to school work and grades, my hair becomes too much tangled and dirty, and almost turned into ugly smelly dread locks due to lack of care for 2 years and all I wanted was to shave it off. It was a very sad thing because I felt like my long hair was the reason I felt ugly and miserable and a huge weight on my head. Even the hair stylist asked me if I was ok and wanted to fix my hair instead. But I just told him to shave it all off. My mom, who doesn't know about my depression because she was already having her own set of problems told me while the stylist shaved off my head that this hair might be sold off as a wig. "No way!" I said. "It's too dirty and jumbled up." To this the hair stylist replied that it doesn't matter. Hair is hair. And business is business. We actually make a good amount of money. But people rarely cut their hair this short. I just wanted to cry on the spot. Years of care and love to my hair, and suddenly someone wants to make money out of my depression. But I held it in thinking that maybe that someone was able to put food on their table again because of my hair.

Well it's kind and it also makes business sense; if a woman feels pretty, fairly compensated and not taken advantage of after selling her hair, she's more likely to keep doing it every couple years as it grows back. I can't imagine the women having their heads shaved are eager to keep doing so every few years.

Well it’s not something really bad, I don’t think she couldn’t afford, just simply that she might want to cut her hair, and that is great when she can sell her hair and spend is as a gift for her son. It just make cutting hair became more valuable :)

CamiliaxBoba what?? the man did the womans hair, then the blonde women complimented the women who got her hair cut. whats the point of ur comment?

It's not always like this
Not all hair comes from unethical sources. I pay thousands for ethnically sourced Caucasian (because it matches mine) hair.
15 years is a long time to use a product and not think about its origins.

My suggestion to folks, if you have really long good hair and want to get a shorter cut, donate it to those who need it before going to a salon or at least get a good deal for it. I almost got my free hair sold off (almost stolen off. That woman made plans for my hair without consulting me ffs)

It's nothing at at all like living in America or Australia (myself) and visiting a salon and getting all the services you'd want, they are selling their hair just to survive not for fun.

This was actually really heartwarming. I was expecting them just to expose the cruel and unethical side but instead we got a picture of what the industry could be if everyone decides to care
I donated my hair to people with cancer when I was a freshman in high school. I have long blonde curly hair, and I really hope that someone out there enjoyed or enjoys my hair, I really try to take good care of it.
Respect :D
:D I had curly blonde hair too! I donated a foot of it last August, still no regrets! It’s really cool to see how your hair can help other people.
My sister is doing it
You're literally amazing
I remember in was in kindergarten and my mom and I did that. I have straight, long, black hair btw. Did it again with my sister. Every time I feel so happy because I know that someone who wishes they had hair will get hair. Its an amazing thing to do.

She’s so precious and beautiful. I really hope she knows that.

actually it made me smile too. 💖
Doc Holliday so rude and mean. She just made a massive sacrifice for her family and she doesn’t have much confidence, and so she is being told how beautiful she really is, because she is. Not helpful when people like you are so negative and mean. Nothing nice to say then don’t say anything at all.
Such a beautiful soul...
How can you offer a human being
$3 for their hair, that's cruel. I can't stop crying. That's inhumane.
Wishing Dan all the best and may be be protected from this sick industry.
Wdym? He is trying to help women in needs, plus he respects the womens feminity and paids them. I don't see this as a cruel thing considering that they literally sold their hair for a better life. Yes!
The way you complimented the lady on her hair was so nice.. I could feel her pain because being an Indian myself , I understand the fact that women with long hair are considered more beautiful and cutting it off for selling would be so painful for her.. basically because we take care of our hair like a baby.. I'm legit moved to tears. Dan is doing a great job at empowering women , who can help their families and themselves.. Never knew about extensions and wigs to this deep of a level.. Thank you for this informative video. ❤️
Shyne Anha I agree. I also love that he didnt cut it too short .It was still pretty and femine for her to get money and still be happy. ❤😭
Y'all care about hair that much? Lame lmao
rDragon thank you for your very polite opinion. Shows how open minded you are about cultures around the world. ☺️
the price that the lady was getting scammed for is even scarier, $2-3 that's ridiculous and God knows. imagine being healthy sand nutritious to get long shiny and healthy hair for YEARS to only get some street change. this world needs some love and Jesus 🙌🏼
Shyne Anha um she isn’t Indian 😂 she is Vietnamese 😂bit yeah the culture in some places in Vietnam says if you have long hair you are beautiful. I am Viet but was never allowed to have long hair 😂
"It's too dirty and jumbled up."
To this the hair stylist replied that it doesn't matter.
I love Dan ...... wow .....I get emotional so much. As I watched this lady cut her hair slightly fearful of her looks..... Her beauty is beyond hair . Her smile... as she was offered a complement ..... simply beautiful 😊
Forever Queening Ms.Sparkle that's great! I thought I was the only one who got emotional watching her 😭😭
I had to pause to wipe my tears, that shy smile said so much.
I'm with you I got emotional as well it is so true as women we put a lot our beauty into our hair it was sad for me to see her cut it as if she'd lose something but she was just as beautiful after
i agree, the compliment made her day! love it
Forever Queening Ms.Sparkle on the bright side im sure her beautiful shiny hair will grow back quickly
This is so deep , it’s more than just cutting hair. These people cut their hair for a better future and they don’t get appreciated enough for what they do.
I think having to sell your hair for a better future is a very small price to pay
uzo onuoha that’s what’s crazy about all this because when it gets sold it so expensive and these people make such a big sacrifice for such a little amount.
uzo onuoha your hair especially as a woman is a huge part of your identity though
Rebecca Lane I would rather have a clean shaved scalp than a bleak future any day.
uzo onuoha But it’s exploitation and no matter the price it’s messed up that they have to sell part of their bodies bc of their poverty/ financial situation
I love her reaction when she tells the first lady she looks young, fresh and beautiful. She reacted like a happy young girl, got me teary.

Its really difficult to explain how much a girl or just anyone in general might be attached to their hair.. especially that lady, it clearly looks like she had been growing her hair throughout her entire life. God bless her and her family ♥️

This is awesome that he pays them properly and does the cutting in a way that leaves them looking so pretty. I never knew this about wigs and sourcing. I never have used wigs and now I am glad I haven't.

Caitie Fernandez your profile picture was my exact reaction
i know right! she’s adorable, and when she said she was beautiful, she beamed and i teared up a bit lmao
I truly didn't care before watching this video. I thought 'aw hell another video about the corruption of the beauty community 🙄' but when I seen the synthetic hair I was disgusted! I have used synthetic mix before. And then hearing this lady's beautiful hair was offered only $2-3 dollars when for those inches we at least pay 120!!! I was more than temporarily moved. I'm not buying hair again unless I know the source is ethical. These beautiful women deserve so much more than being treated like sheep.
You are making such a difference with your decision. This is so important. The way to change the industry is through demand, people all over the world need to change and demand that whatever hair they buy is sourced from people that get paid properly.
I agree to (ik we have the same name)
You know what as a African American we are taught to wear extensions. Now seeing this I really sad for those women. Does the hair necessary have to be human? It sounds like voodoo to me.
Sadly, ethical sources do not exist for most products...how is it that we are going to have the true ability to check out the source?

I've never worn a wig or extensions and I probably never will. Something about wearing someone else's hair creeps me out. But that's ME. Having said that; I pray that Yah richly blesses this young man's work. He is kind and ethical and not looking to exploit these women. @@johnstonegathogo9919 ethical human hair wigs/extensions should be for these people as well as those who have lost their hair to disease.
I wish this man all the luck in the world as he seems ethical and is giving what is a fair price for where they live. Although since he will makes tens of thousands per wig, he should give them more IMHO.
But I am 100% against vanity hair. If you want a change, wear a synthetic wig.

Well it's kind and it also makes business sense; if a woman feels pretty, fairly compensated and not taken advantage of after selling her hair, she's more likely to keep doing it every couple years as it grows back. I can't imagine the women having their heads shaved are eager to keep doing so every few years.
