I had the pleasure of being invited to a Knight Rider filming on a winery in No. Calif.(owner of the winery was a personal friend) I brought my two young boys and they got to meet David Hasselhof and the two stunt drivers (brothers) and have a wonderful catered meal with cast and crew. FYI what he described isn't even remotely the process to apply UK Vehicle Exercise Duty except for the bit about phoning to do it which isn't a rare or exceptional service as he describes. The UK Government department that does this the DVLA has a 24hr phone line for this and he could have done it on the website on his phone plus you don't use a car Vin number as described in his story to get VED for a vehicle. This is known by all UK Police Officers and they wouldn't have said it was impossible to apply tax to the car at night over the phone!

I am in the UK and I used to own a black firebird with some knight rider bits on it including the scanner. A policeman pulled me over once and took a long walk around the car and said "your back lights are blacked out, that's not legal, you cant have that red light on the front and why dont you have a front number plate.... He then said on your way, drive safe and once last thing, does the car talk? I slowly drove off rather confused by the whole thing. I now own another Trans Am in black with no Knight Rider lookalike bits.
He was basically saying ‘I know it’s a knight rider replica, I’m a fan so I’m not gonna give you tickets for the illegal parts, but I’m letting you know it’s illegal and another less chill officer might give you some tickets’. Some British traffic officers are car guys and will let some stuff go.

Knight Rider was the series that made me fall in love with Trans-Ams and cars in general. That series showed some future stuff that now are common place like: digital navigation, talking car, video communication, communication through a watch, communication through the car, self driving, self parking, spoiler and some other parts moving when going turbo boost, using flaps to create drag to stop when in turbo boost.

I used to have a 1982 Trans AM back in 84, got rid of it in 87. When the doors were moving in ways they shouldn't. The car was a piece of crap, but a fun piece of crap. Two funny stories about the car. One day I was going home and one of the hubcaps came off hit a berm, and flew what seemed like forever. It landed out in the middle of a field. Yes I went after it, they were about $200 a piece back then. The car was a notorious smoker, if it had a fluid it was leaking and burning off of something. I always had a steady bit of smoke coming out from the hood. One day I'm at a light, here comes a firetruck. The firetruck slows down to a crawl with all of the firemen looking hard at my car. At that moment I wanted to crawl under the dash, thank god they had a fire to get to.
In the UK you are allowed to drive an untaxed and even unregistered vehicle two occasions. 1) on the way to the MOT test centre for a pre-booked test from the place you keep the vehicle AND 2) on the way back from an MOT test centre direct to the place where you keep your vehicle. (Since you can't tax without the MOT Certificate/Database) So something doesn't add up here...
Good story, glad you had a decent, if a bit expensive, outcome. As a motorcyclist, I've had my share of good and bad experiences with cops, too... The absolute worst was on my way to a group ride meet-up one unseasonably warm February morning. I had just pulled away from the stop light at a highway interchange when I heard a "whoop whoop" a few cars back. I didn't see where it was coming from in my mirrors, but I honestly thought there was an ambulance that needed to get by, so I of course pulled over immediately after getting safely through the intersection to let them go ahead... I quickly understood it wasn't an ambulance as a cop had pulled up and parked right behind me. OK, I know the drill, so I turned off the bike, put the kickstand down, and was in the process of removing my gloves & helmet to clearly indicate that I wasn't going to try to run. Suddenly, I was staring down the barrel of a gun in my face right as I doffed my helmet! The cop was quite "amped up" and repeatedly cursed at me, screaming "get off the F'ing bike, throw the F'ing key on the F'ing ground, and sit on your F'ing hands!!!" I declined that nonsense and instead slowly removed the key, politely presented it to him, got off the bike, and calmly sat on the ground nearby. I figured it was some kind of misunderstanding since I didn't feel that I had done anything so egregious as to warrant this kind of treatment... Then his backup showed up, and then a tow-truck... The cop proceeded to have my motorcycle impounded, gave me a ticket with a court date already on it, and forced me to walk along the side of the freeway to the nearest exit. All of this was due to my having committed "excessive lane changes" according to the ticket... There certainly was some excessive behavior, but it was on the part of the officer! One of the best police experiences I've had was when that same bike some time later broke down just as I exited the freeway, about half a mile from home... I gave him my info, including proof of ownership, insurance, and my driver's license with motorcycle endorsement to show all was legit and that my home was nearby. I told him that I figured I'd try to push it the rest of the way. He was kind enough to offer to follow me with his caution lights on as I pushed the bike home so I wouldn't get run over. I had to stop two or three times to catch my breath because it was up a slight incline and, although my bike was one of the lightest in the class, it was still around 450 lbs, and I was still in my heavy riding gear, and apparently out of shape... I eventually made it without getting run over, though I nearly died of exhaustion... @@Fedaykin24 depends how recently this story happened. You can tax your car on the DVLA website using just your reg these days. I know because I've done it. It's not always been that easy. And be would've needed the VIN because of the American Reg. 👍So I'm pretty sure he's not a lier 🤣.
Great story, provided you don't live in the UK and realise that's not the way things work. The police might well pull you over for not having road tax but more likely they'd see the car had just been MOT'd and let it go. They might stop you for the red light scanner but it's unlikely, most police will only take it further if you give them attitude or seem to be lying. Any police I've ever met just admire an interesting car unless you're driving like an idiot. It's easy to tax a car over the phone or internet 24 hours a day. The VIN would be written on the MOT certificate you're given at the garage. Maybe Sam was driving around a few days after the MOT without having bothered to tax the car, in which case the police did have the right to seize the car and / or fine him. It's a fun story but the details just don't add up.

The whole VIN number thing seems sketchy too - the DVLA don't need it to tax a car - all they need is the keeper's name and address (or the reference number on the green slip of the V5 if the registration hasn't been transferred to the new keeper yet) - valid insurance and a valid MOT - both of which are electronically registered on a shared system which both the copper and the people on the phone at the DVLA could check. The only time AFAIK they would need it is if they are registering a new vehicle, or putting a UK reg on an import - which could be the case with this Trans AM, but if it was he couldn't have got an MOT because you can't MOT a vehicle that isn't registered with the DVLA

I rip the tarps off and there she is, in all her glory I Cried, I cried, on the hood of that car, next day I was borrowing dad’s truck to get parts and fluids, the day after was a Monday, I drove the car to school, and parked it in the parking lot, got out of school and slowly drove through town still trying to figure out the controls, opposite of what I’m used to, it’s steering wheel is on the right side vs the left Fast forward 3 years and here I am just finished building her into what I have always wanted, I’m tempted to make her the mad max 2 version, so no rear window, and extra gas tanks and other things Still not sure though
This must have happened quite a few years ago, been about 10yrs of being able to tax online or by phone? Can't remember the last time I had to go to the post office. Only car friendly rule in the UK is vehicles become tax and MOT exempt at 40y/o, still have to go through the taxation process but you get a nice big 'NIL' in the box showing amount due. Puts a smile on my face every time.

I had an 84 Trans am with the Anniversary package. The dashboard connections were crap but if you got behind the dash you could clean up the contacts and get the dash working again. It got the the point where I could pull and replace the dash in 30 mins flat
Sean fox he was obviously driving around in the evening and didn’t tax it, he also omitted to mention that you can tax a vehicle online and have been able to do so for about 4 years now. And if the police stop you for having no tax they usually give you the opportunity especially the same day as an MOT. And you can still tax over the phone, basically a shit story all round
Surely, here in the Uk, when going and returning from the MOT center (Car Road Worthy Center) is the only time your exempt from Road Tax, and the police wont and can't do anything as your legal. Its because, You need an MOT to apply for road tax. Rest of story is cool though, remember loving that show as a kid!
Because you can’t tax a car without an MOT you’re allowed to drive it to and from the testing station with no tax and no policeman would behave like that if it was stopped on the way back from being tested. Also, the tax is automatically backdated to the beginning of the month so he wouldn’t have asked that question. But hey... never let facts ruin a good story!

I have a 1984 TransAm. I always wanted to do a conversion on it. You used to be able to buy the dash for it but I doubt that is still available. unfortunately, mine is kinda rough. the previous owner was a teen that slid it into a guard rail. Plenty of damage that needs to be fixed. Even so, we drove it for a long time until the wife threw a rod bearing in the 305. Now its been sitting about 20 years in a field. Its pretty darn rough now.

What if I’m stopped by the police for driving without car tax? Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras are used to scan registrations and check them against information stored in the DVLA’s database or a manual radio check by an officer. If your vehicle is found to be untaxed after a traffic stop , an officer will report you to the DVLA who will then issue you with a fine. Your vehicle will not be removed by the side of the road if you are stopped by the police for been untaxed, it will be removed if found to have no insurance.
If you're taking your car to a pre-booked MOT test, you can drive your vehicle on a road without it being taxed. ... However, it's worth noting that you do still have to apply for vehicle tax even if you don't need to pay it.

Im confused by your anecdote. If you were returning home from a prebooked MOT as you say you were you can legally drive it without tax to and from the MOT station, you still need to be insured though....
The plate on my first car was AVG-266, 1985 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ-60 with the inline 6 3F engine and a 5 speed manual gearbox. Kept it almost all my adult life, cried like a baby the day I was forced to sell it because we were moving to Brazil 😭. Got it tattooed on my left forearm.

If that's true about the police officer I suggest you put a formal complaint in about him. They cant do jack all about driving a car with no road tax its nothing to do with them and they can only advise its untaxed, they can only take your vehicle for no insurance and no mot unless your driving it to and from the test centre which you notify the dvla about and they'll cover you if you get pulled over! it's a civil matter that is to be taken up with the dvla and marston's (who own the dvla after it was privatised) if your caught driving a vehicle on the road without road tax
Here in Oz you can register your car via the internet and it includes the compulsory insurance. I should also mention we no longer have a sticker on the car that shows the registration period, so it is easy to lose track and drive unregistered. Many times I have been pulled over unregistered, and then registered the car on the spot. Show the police the receipt and I'm free to go 😁
I listened @1:38 numerous times, and came to the conclusion that he was saying "My Dad, you know, give me an amazing car for my birthday, and I was gay!".. It actually had me thinking that British folks still used the word as the term that it used to mean.. Then I heard him saying something @1:48 that sounded kind of similar, but also completely different. So I ended up finding myself searching for English British slang words, and believe it or not, the first search result that I chose to click on had 17 slang words, and one of those just so happened to be "gutted". But, yeah.. Right, unfortunately VINwiki you have been taken in by this smug prats tall story which has a number of issues meaning its either exaggerated or utter BS! Firstly it has been possible to tax a car in the UK over the phone or online for many years, a traffic officer would know this and would even usually recommend this happens there and then. Considering the car needs to be insured first to get the Tax I don't see why he wouldn't have done it beforehand. He could have taxed this car with his web enabled phone there and then without even needing to phone the DVLA! The idea that he phoned the DVLA 24hr Vehicle tax number to be told that it is a rare or exceptional service is utter nonsense! Next you don't use the car Vin number to put tax on a car in the UK, that is not even remotely part of the process! You need either the V5C, the new keeper slip or a V11 renewal form. They all have a code on them that you give the DVLA either over the phone or on the website. May I suggest VINwiki fact check people who bring stories before you put them up!
Fedaykin24 hey buddy so the dvla shuts at 7pm on the phone and with out a v5 you can’t tax the car over the phone. For a short period the dvla allowed you to tax a car over the phone. Which includes filling out a v62 which requires a vin number and registration number. This is only reason I could tax on the side of the road. Hope this makes sense.

Pity the story is highly exaggerated or a straight out lie. FYI what he described isn't even remotely the process to apply UK Vehicle Exercise Duty except for the bit about phoning to do it which isn't a rare or exceptional service as he describes. The UK Government department that does this the DVLA has a 24hr phone line for this and he could have done it on the website on his phone plus you don't use a car Vin number as described in his story to get VED for a vehicle. This is known by all UK Police Officers and they wouldn't have said it was impossible to apply tax to the car at night over the phone!

I am in the UK and I used to own a black firebird with some knight rider bits on it including the scanner. A policeman pulled me over once and took a long walk around the car and said "your back lights are blacked out, that's not legal, you cant have that red light on the front and why dont you have a front number plate.... He then said on your way, drive safe and once last thing, does the car talk? I slowly drove off rather confused by the whole thing. I now own another Trans Am in black with no Knight Rider lookalike bits.
He was basically saying ‘I know it’s a knight rider replica, I’m a fan so I’m not gonna give you tickets for the illegal parts, but I’m letting you know it’s illegal and another less chill officer might give you some tickets’.

Here's the thing about the turbo boost. You know you're going to be flying down the road, about to jump the 150ft canyon where the bridge has gone out. Then KITT will say, "Michael, I'm afraid turbo boost is unavailable!" Freeze frame, cue Knight Rider theme, cut to commercial.
Knight Rider was the series that made me fall in love with Trans-Ams and cars in general. That series showed some future stuff that now are common place like: digital navigation, talking car, video communication, communication through a watch, communication through the car, self driving, self parking, spoiler and some other parts moving when going turbo boost, using flaps to create drag to stop when in turbo boost.

I used to have a 1982 Trans AM back in 84, got rid of it in 87. When the doors were moving in ways they shouldn't. The car was a piece of crap, but a fun piece of crap. Two funny stories about the car. One day I was going home and one of the hubcaps came off hit a berm, and flew what seemed like forever. It landed out in the middle of a field. Yes I went after it, they were about $200 a piece back then.
The car was a notorious smoker, if it had a fluid it was leaking and burning off of something. I always had a steady bit of smoke coming out from the hood. One day I'm at a light, here comes a firetruck. The firetruck slows down to a crawl with all of the firemen looking hard at my car. At that moment I wanted to crawl under the dash, thank god they had a fire to get to.

In the UK you are allowed to drive an untaxed and even unregistered vehicle two occasions.
1) on the way to the MOT test centre for a pre-booked test from the place you keep the vehicle AND
2) on the way back from an MOT test centre direct to the place where you keep your vehicle.
(Since you can't tax without the MOT Certificate/Database)
So something doesn't add up here...

As a motorcyclist, I've had my share of good and bad experiences with cops, too...
The absolute worst was on my way to a group ride meet-up one unseasonably warm February morning. I had just pulled away from the stop light at a highway interchange when I heard a "whoop whoop" a few cars back. I didn't see where it was coming from in my mirrors, but I honestly thought there was an ambulance that needed to get by, so I of course pulled over immediately after getting safely through the intersection to let them go ahead... I quickly understood it wasn't an ambulance as a cop had pulled up and parked right behind me. OK, I know the drill, so I turned off the bike, put the kickstand down, and was in the process of removing my gloves & helmet to clearly indicate that I wasn't going to try to run. Suddenly, I was staring down the barrel of a gun in my face right as I doffed my helmet! The cop was quite "amped up" and repeatedly cursed at me, screaming "get off the F'ing bike, throw the F'ing key on the F'ing ground, and sit on your F'ing hands!!!" I declined that nonsense and instead slowly removed the key, politely presented it to him, got off the bike, and calmly sat on the ground nearby. I figured it was some kind of misunderstanding since I didn't feel that I had done anything so egregious as to warrant this kind of treatment... Then his backup showed up, and then a tow-truck... The cop proceeded to have my motorcycle impounded, gave me a ticket with a court date already on it, and forced me to walk along the side of the freeway to the nearest exit. All of this was due to my having committed "excessive lane changes" according to the ticket... There certainly was some excessive behavior, but it was on the part of the officer!
Didn't tell him I was doing so, but I walked directly to the tow company, since it was just under 1 mile away.

I told the tow operator that I wasn't done riding today and that I'll have my bike back now please. I was able to get it back for only $192 with no additional impound fees due to it not getting through the gate, into the storage yard. Unfortunately, I didn't catch up to the friends I was originally heading to meet up with, but I still had a nice ride along the planned route.
When I showed up for the court date, they never did call my name. I inquired with the clerk who told me the Prosecutor declined to pursue the matter at that time, but they had 3 years to do so. Fortunately nothing else ever came of it.
I figure they dropped it because the cop's terrible behavior against me jeopardized their case.
One of the best police experiences I've had was when that same bike some time later broke down just as I exited the freeway, about half a mile from home... Unfortunately it was after 10 pm, pitch black outside, and I'm on a mostly black sport bike wearing a black leather suit, black helmet, black gloves, black boots...

I figured I could push the bike home, but it being dark out with poor street lighting and not much sidewalks along the way made that quite a dangerous proposition... Just then, a cop pulled up behind me and asked what was going on. I told him that the bike was doing fine on the way home, but when I took the freeway exit, it just died and wouldn't start. I gave him my info, including proof of ownership, insurance, and my driver's license with motorcycle endorsement to show all was legit and that my home was nearby. I told him that I figured I'd try to push it the rest of the way. He was kind enough to offer to follow me with his caution lights on as I pushed the bike home so I wouldn't get run over. I had to stop two or three times to catch my breath because it was up a slight incline and, although my bike was one of the lightest in the class, it was still around 450 lbs, and I was still in my heavy riding gear, and apparently out of shape... I eventually made it without getting run over, though I nearly died of exhaustion... But I was and am very grateful for his assistance.

@@Fedaykin24 depends how recently this story happened. You can tax your car on the DVLA website using just your reg these days. I know because I've done it. It's not always been that easy. And be would've needed the VIN because of the American Reg. 👍So I'm pretty sure he's not a lier 🤣.

Great story, provided you don't live in the UK and realise that's not the way things work.
The police might well pull you over for not having road tax but more likely they'd see the car had just been MOT'd and let it go. They might stop you for the red light scanner but it's unlikely, most police will only take it further if you give them attitude or seem to be lying. Any police I've ever met just admire an interesting car unless you're driving like an idiot.
It's easy to tax a car over the phone or internet 24 hours a day. The VIN would be written on the MOT certificate you're given at the garage.
Maybe Sam was driving around a few days after the MOT without having bothered to tax the car, in which case the police did have the right to seize the car and / or fine him.
It's a fun story but the details just don't add up.

The whole VIN number thing seems sketchy too - the DVLA don't need it to tax a car - all they need is the keeper's name and address (or the reference number on the green slip of the V5 if the registration hasn't been transferred to the new keeper yet) - valid insurance and a valid MOT - both of which are electronically registered on a shared system which both the copper and the people on the phone at the DVLA could check.
The only time AFAIK they would need it is if they are registering a new vehicle, or putting a UK reg on an import - which could be the case with this Trans AM, but if it was he couldn't have got an MOT because you can't MOT a vehicle that isn't registered with the DVLA

In the UK you can not have a vehicle seized for no road tax by the police. It is a civil matter and they can only fine you for it.
Since 2013, By law DVLA can give police the authority, under devolved powers, to remove untaxed vehicles.

I Cried, I cried, on the hood of that car, next day I was borrowing dad’s truck to get parts and fluids, the day after was a Monday, I drove the car to school, and parked it in the parking lot, got out of school and slowly drove through town still trying to figure out the controls, opposite of what I’m used to, it’s steering wheel is on the right side vs the left
Fast forward 3 years and here I am just finished building her into what I have always wanted, I’m tempted to make her the mad max 2 version, so no rear window, and extra gas tanks and other things

Only car friendly rule in the UK is vehicles become tax and MOT exempt at 40y/o, still have to go through the taxation process but you get a nice big 'NIL' in the box showing amount due.

It's actually Vehicle Excise Duty, it's just referred to as "road tax" as it's easier to say in conversation.

Which is an entirely legitimate reason and the only time you can drive untaxed (to/from the station) and without insurance (but thats a massive grey area and i've been told yes and no by police officers when enquired)

The MOT must be booked in with the test station and you need insurance, you must also take the direct route to the test station.

I had an 84 Trans am with the Anniversary package. The dashboard connections were crap but if you got behind the dash you could clean up the contacts and get the dash working again.
It got the the point where I could pull and replace the dash in 30 mins flat
Til S3, K.I.T.T. was a manual, but after Bonnie did a bit of work on him, he became a automatic transmission.

And if the police stop you for having no tax they usually give you the opportunity especially the same day as an MOT. And you can still tax over the phone, basically a shit story all round
Surely, here in the Uk, when going and returning from the MOT center (Car Road Worthy Center) is the only time your exempt from Road Tax, and the police wont and can't do anything as your legal. Its because, You need an MOT to apply for road tax. Rest of story is cool though, remember loving that show as a kid!

Because you can’t tax a car without an MOT you’re allowed to drive it to and from the testing station with no tax and no policeman would behave like that if it was stopped on the way back from being tested. Also, the tax is automatically backdated to the beginning of the month so he wouldn’t have asked that question. But hey... never let facts ruin a good story!

That’s actually the second gen knight rider, the light in the center for KITT’s voice started off as just a red square in the first gen, then became the one here with the three vertical segmented bars. Cool stuff!
I have a 1984 TransAm. I always wanted to do a conversion on it. You used to be able to buy the dash for it but I doubt that is still available. unfortunately, mine is kinda rough. the previous owner was a teen that slid it into a guard rail. Plenty of damage that needs to be fixed. Even so, we drove it for a long time until the wife threw a rod bearing in the 305. Now its been sitting about 20 years in a field. Its pretty darn rough now.
You can still buy all the Knight rider parts dude. They're actually better now than they've ever been!

Growing up when both shows were in TV, you were either a Knight Rider fan, or a Dukes of Hazzard fan. I was the former, which might explain why even today I’m more into sports cars than muscle cars.

What if I’m stopped by the police for driving without car tax?
Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras are used to scan registrations and check them against information stored in the DVLA’s database or a manual radio check by an officer. If your vehicle is found to be untaxed after a traffic stop , an officer will report you to the DVLA who will then issue you with a fine. Your vehicle will not be removed by the side of the road if you are stopped by the police for been untaxed, it will be removed if found to have no insurance.
You can still buy tax over the phone from the DVLA on either an automated hotline or from someone in Swansea.

If you're taking your car to a pre-booked MOT test, you can drive your vehicle on a road without it being taxed. ... However, it's worth noting that you do still have to apply for vehicle tax even if you don't need to pay it.

Im confused by your anecdote. If you were returning home from a prebooked MOT as you say you were you can legally drive it without tax to and from the MOT station, you still need to be insured though....
The plate on my first car was AVG-266, 1985 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ-60 with the inline 6 3F engine and a 5 speed manual gearbox. Kept it almost all my adult life, cried like a baby the day I was forced to sell it because we were moving to Brazil 😭. Got it tattooed on my left forearm.

The problem with all that story is, as people in the uk already know, you are not able to put road tax on your vehicle until that test has been completed and passed. As a result on the way too and from the test station (whether it passes or fails) you are 100% allowed to drive the vehicle without road tax. In fact in that situation you have no choice but to do exclusively that. The police obviously know this, people in the uk know this, it’s always been the case. $1000 fine in back taxes? Also regarding him being the reason people in the uk can no longer put road tax on their cars over the phone... I had to listen to that part a few times just to make sure I wasn’t misunderstanding because it sounded so dumb, you’ve literally been able to put road tax on your vehicle over the phone or online for for years and years and quite clearly still can now, all you have to do is google that to see that it is BS.

If that's true about the police officer I suggest you put a formal complaint in about him. They cant do jack all about driving a car with no road tax its nothing to do with them and they can only advise its untaxed, they can only take your vehicle for no insurance and no mot unless your driving it to and from the test centre which you notify the dvla about and they'll cover you if you get pulled over! it's a civil matter that is to be taken up with the dvla and marston's (who own the dvla after it was privatised) if your caught driving a vehicle on the road without road tax

Here in Oz you can register your car via the internet and it includes the compulsory insurance.
I should also mention we no longer have a sticker on the car that shows the registration period, so it is easy to lose track and drive unregistered.
Many times I have been pulled over unregistered, and then registered the car on the spot.
Show the police the receipt and I'm free to go 😁

I listened @1:38 numerous times, and came to the conclusion that he was saying "My Dad, you know, give me an amazing car for my birthday, and I was gay!".. It actually had me thinking that British folks still used the word as the term that it used to mean.. Then I heard him saying something @1:48 that sounded kind of similar, but also completely different. So I ended up finding myself searching for English British slang words, and believe it or not, the first search result that I chose to click on had 17 slang words, and one of those just so happened to be "gutted". But, yeah.. That makes a lot more sense than "gay", but had he not said it that second time and pronouncing it quite a bit better coupled with me doing the search, I still would have been lost, thinking he said he was happy when he should have been the opposite in such a case.
Right, unfortunately VINwiki you have been taken in by this smug prats tall story which has a number of issues meaning its either exaggerated or utter BS!
Firstly it has been possible to tax a car in the UK over the phone or online for many years, a traffic officer would know this and would even usually recommend this happens there and then. Considering the car needs to be insured first to get the Tax I don't see why he wouldn't have done it beforehand. He could have taxed this car with his web enabled phone there and then without even needing to phone the DVLA! The idea that he phoned the DVLA 24hr Vehicle tax number to be told that it is a rare or exceptional service is utter nonsense!
Next you don't use the car Vin number to put tax on a car in the UK, that is not even remotely part of the process! You need either the V5C, the new keeper slip or a V11 renewal form. They all have a code on them that you give the DVLA either over the phone or on the website.
May I suggest VINwiki fact check people who bring stories before you put them up!

Fedaykin24 hey buddy so the dvla shuts at 7pm on the phone and with out a v5 you can’t tax the car over the phone. For a short period the dvla allowed you to tax a car over the phone. Which includes filling out a v62 which requires a vin number and registration number.
This is only reason I could tax on the side of the road. Hope this makes sense.

2) Don't bother trying to pull the wool over my eyes, I have been buying, selling and taxing cars plus motorbikes in the UK for over 23 years
3) The DVLA does not shut at 7pm and don't insult my intelligence doubling down on that idea. The DVLA tax line is open 24hrs a day and that has been the case since it was launched. You also had the option to use the website for the same time
4) Taxing over the phone is not some strange rare never used process and the Police Officer you describe would know very well the process of how to tax a vehicle in a Post Office, online and over the phone!
5) I am touched that you did some frantic Googling to find a way to pass of your lies but I am highly sceptical that you had not only failed to inform the DVLA that you had purchased the car, failed to SORN it and lost the green slip or the V5C thus requiring a V62
6) Again you don't need a Vin to tax a car in the UK and I am assuming you spun that story because a) It matches the VINwiki brand b) Yanks would assume you would need it to tax a car
Now my suggestion is now you have been rumbled for selling a tall tale is to contact VINwiki, apologise for giving them a false story and ask them to take the video down and hope you don't lose too much face.
Fedaykin24 I have a nice letter from the dvla with a massive fine for no road tax after being pulled over by the police if you send me your email address I send you the fine paperwork if you want buddy it’s 100% true I know it sounds strange but I’m no fibber mate. The reason I told the story was because it truly was a unbelievable story but I really do have the proof mate. Appreciate your comments buddy as it does sound exaggerated but I can assure you it’s the truth :)
