    i'd appreciate those weapon bone details but ill try animating without 1st

      What I did was, after importing my character fbx into Blender, add a new child bone for "hand_r" and called it "weapon_r". I did the same for the left, added a new child bone for "hand_l" called "weapon_l". Since they aren't skinned to the character mesh you can freely animate those new weapon bones w/o distorting your mesh.

    Hey mate a question, here you move the bone to accommodate the weapon, but what if we want different weapons that would require to be fit in the hand differently?

      You can re-orient the weapon bone to best match each weapon, and then use separate animations for each weapon. If you wanted to reuse the same animations, maybe you could make different sockets inside UE for each weapon to help with the specific weapon fit?

    Hello. Thank you for the video and sharing your knowledge! You got yourself a sub!! I just wanted to ask a question. What does changing the point update setting to FK on frame do on 03:20? What is the option about?

      Hey, glad to give back to the community where I can! The FK on frame setting will make the weapon rig follow the hand (it's parent). This is useful because you'll typically be moving the hand around via AutoPose or Point Controllers, and the weapon will stay "in the hand" while you do this.     can you do a guide like this that involves ue4 manny instead? how would you do this *without* a weapon bone

      You could always just animate using a hand bone on the ue4 skeleton, but I find it much easier to add an additional weapon bone you can animate as needed. And it only takes a few minutes to do!

    The new official cascadeur weapon video covers how to use two handed weapons and be able to have the non-dominant hand stay attached to the weapon, which is very helpful but I'm very unsure about how to merge their ideas with weapon bones since they don't use them in that video

      I have watched this, and will do a video showcasing how to combine their methods of constraints with also having a weapon bone when I get a chance. My wife and I just celebrated the birth of our first daughter, so my content schedule has been delayed a bit haha.

    Can you do a video that would also export the weapon animation? Say that i want a reload animation, i export the character anim seperate from the animated weapon

      I'll put that on my list for future videos, thanks for the suggestion. The official Cascadeur yt channel is also doing a weapon animation series, and they may cover that before I can so keep an eye on their channel as well!
