@@Sleepy12ftPanda As far as I'm aware, we don't know much about the Hornsent religion (or Hornsent in general). Going off the Enraged Divine Beast talisman, the actual divine beasts they believe in are messengers of the heavens and we know the giant gate of corpses at the top of the tower is connected to the divine, but outside of that we don't know too much. I'd go as far as to say it's possible their religion was connected to the Greater Will, given their ties to the Crucible and use of golden incantations. But I need way more info and context to state that for sure. As for their persecution, there seems to be two main reasons. One is that, similar to the Fire Giants, they were a threat to the Golden Order. Two, on a personal level, I imagine Marika must've hated them. They're the reason her home village is empty, if I remember right all her people were put into the jars around the Realm of Shadow and tortured. In other words, before she had them prosecuted, they prosecuted her people. It also may be the reason the Crucible grew to be shunned as the Golden Order progressed.
Here's hoping that they develop advanced techniques like dynamically zooming out the camera for big bosses by the time their next game comes out. Getting squished up against a wall and watching a half-transparent mountain of cloth-covered flesh dance and cavort violently until you're dead is not the most fun experience.
@@Vulture_5 It reminds me of playing PSO2 NGS, which at least had the camera zoom out when fighting massive bosses, but even in that game in normal gameplay they wouldn't let you zoom out the view.

Was the camera in Bloodborne more behaved or is it just the higher mobility making it less of a problem there?
@@UltravioletNomad I have a character on Bloodborne on NG+7 (the highest difficulty scaling) and I beat every boss on every playthrough, and I havent ever had an issue with the camera
I have to say, probably the greatest Boss design I've ever seen. Given what we know of, not just the lore, but the cultural inspirations, this boss just makes everything click for me, it just belongs here; Masterpiece
This was one of the most incredible boss fights of my life. What a sick design! And the music that changes depending on the element it’s using.
I was fighting him and was just thinking about how they went so hard on the music
the element/music changing reminds me of king cerberus in dmc5
this was trash lmao
Skill issue
@@TheEyeWatchingno its just flashy and there is no rythm to the fight
We only see the fight as we see it because these two take their theatrical performance VERY seriously!
The show MUST go on, and even when killed they play the part as one creature.
IRL in some versions of lion dance the dancers is said to be possessed,so it won't be surprising if the guys here is possessed by A Beast for real
Just two almost naked dudes having some fun man, just happend to turn into a boss fight in Elden Rings dlc.
😂😂
This combined with the Hornsent Grandam's reaction to you donning the Devine Beast Helm implies that the Devine Beast is actually more of an Outer (or maybe in this case "Native") God of the Lands Between that the people of Beluraut channeled through worship than an actual giant monster. If the Greater Will had never infected the Crucible long ago, this is how society would have progressed in the lands above.
When you play a FromSoft game and see a naked/half naked person coming at you, you are in trouble.
It fits the theme of the dlc
Gravity discovered in 1665
People in 1664:
Best design in the whole game, not just dlc. Uncanny is an understatement, horrifying visual. Reminds me of Guardian Ape from Sekiro.
I love the way Elden Ring manages to make cool designs using bizarre out-of-place elements, like Radahn being on a tiny horse or Messmer's limbs being just a little too long (as well as having a snake through his body). I wish we got more of this.
Agreed, I was looking for more comments on its face. It looks like an animatronic and I find it unsettling in a very good way.
I love how you forget that it's not a real creature, at least I did half the time. To me I was fighting a lion
@@someguy4405 I'm still thinking about that horse...
@@MomoKanjaki If you didn't know: that's Leonard. Radahn actually loved animals and takes good care of his steed since childhood (when he was still small), so he uses his gravity magic to levitate above Leonard to not squish him.
it's hilarious how dedicated these two are to staying in character

If the Greater Will had never infected the Crucible long ago, this is how society would have progressed in the lands above.
@@Sleepy12ftPanda I don't think the Greater Will ever "infected" the Crucible. The Greater Will seems to have always had strong ties with the Crucible, though Marika's Golden Order grew distant from it with time.
@@Velloah Then why don't the Hornsent worship the Greater Will instead of the Divine Beasts? Wasn't that the ideological divide that caused their persecution by the Golden Order?
This is practically how Chinese lion dances are in irl too. They're a fun Chinese new year event.
Here's hoping that they develop advanced techniques like dynamically zooming out the camera for big bosses by the time their next game comes out. Getting squished up against a wall and watching a half-transparent mountain of cloth-covered flesh dance and cavort violently until you're dead is not the most fun experience.
This such a massive issue throughout the game. Dragons, Fire Giant, Trolls, the fire wicker guy in the dlc etc
@@Vulture_5 It reminds me of playing PSO2 NGS, which at least had the camera zoom out when fighting massive bosses, but even in that game in normal gameplay they wouldn't let you zoom out the view.
The most stupid thing is that it's already in game. You can just...toggle it on, and it does for SOME encounters. But not even remotely nearly enough. A modder can do it in like two clicks, this is stupid.
they really need to stop giving the camera a hitbox
Sekiro didn’t really have that problem
This thing was just 3 elements short of being a catapillar Alatreon

@@ChiraqGoblinyes just like real life lion dance back player. Back hurt .
I wanna shake the hand of and thank person who came up with this idea and all the animators who worked on bringing this masterpiece to life
These two dudes were conjuring storms, entire seasonal changes in the arena, jumping, spinning, dancing, twirling, the whole set
…and still they maintained that posture, that’s dedication right there
Easily one of my favorite bosses, in anything. Just so creative and intimidating, and the music, my lord. It took me two hours and a half horlyrs to best him. But it was worth it.
Absolutely awesome boss
*them
獅子舞だとは思っていたが、ここまで忠実に獅子舞だとは思わなかった。しかも見えない部分における手の動き、中の人の動きまでも再現しているとは、もはやフロムは職人芸だな!
He never missed with the extremely detailed toes!
Just like Morgott...
It's strange how healthy they both look. Whatever exercise/skincare program they're both on is clearly not lacking they both got some killer legs.
They look really jacked but in a natural way. To be fair that whole dance, even only 5mins, would be a killer workout
The guy on the back… The horror of this boss turned into humor. 😆
So funny to see him running around on all 4s.
As someone who's been at the back in a lion dance before, I respect the back guy's commitment to the role.
would you do the dance in that?
Remember, anyone in your d&d campaign, even two golems in a lion costume, could be three kobolds in a trench coat.
Noted thanks for tips
I'm still amazed that despite being a From Software game, the boss were actually 2 Elite, Hornsent Divine Beast warriors instead of some kind of centipede humanoid creature.
This is such a fantastic boss. The crazy mechanical sound design and it's uncanny movements are unforgettable
This boss is up there with some of the best FromSoft ever designed. Taken from a simple idea, but imagine how much work it took to make it into what we see in the game.
I like to believe that Miyazaki went to a chinese festivity with his family but couldn't help spending all day imagining how he'd beat the shit out of a dancing dragon
Which led to this
This is amazing! During some attacks, the front guy actually stands on the other guys back. So much detail for something you would never see in game.
i'm so glad these guys got their lil jockstraps on
When I fought this boss I kept thinking about how excited I was for a video exactly like this
I'm happy that they even took note of the little details in how these two should move. Like standing on each other's shoulders and such
It's somehow more cursed to see two "regular" dudes being perfect puppets rather than an abomination having a costume
Yeah,in comments section the part where the possibility of dancers being in complete possession get over shadowed by "two boys in trench coat,LOL" aspect
This is a traditional lion dance called shishi-mai in Japan. You can see this performance in traditional festival in japan.
Dude, this boss is an absolute spectacle right off the bat, it's incredible! Hits like a truck too!
I have been absolutely enthralled by this design and looked forward to this video since the first trailer was released
It has only been one day after the dlc drops and Bonfire is already dissecting bosses
0:45 Technically not a jumpscare but it sure as hell felt like one
They even kept the lil head shake. Cute
Lion head: RAWR!
Lion butt: I am speed!
the descriptions for items about the boss and the grandma hornsent refer to these guys as "sculpted keepers", so they might be some sort of golems
When you consider the Hornsent Grandam's reaction to you donning the Devine Beast Helm, I think it's more likely that they're performers. That would certainly imply that the Devine Beast is actually more of an Outer (or maybe in this case "Native") God of the Lands Between that the people of Beluraut channeled through worship than a giant monster. If the Greater Will had never infected the Crucible long ago, this is how society would have progressed in the lands above.
I can't get enough of this boss. It's amazing in every sense of the word.
The fight, the music....
I see it now... Why the lion head is so spoopy. It's the flat teeth and the eyes!
Lion dance is a form of traditional dance in Chinese culture and other Asian countries in which performers mimic a lion's movements in a lion costume to bring good luck and fortune.
What a fascinating design for an enemy
For some reason I expected there to be like four or even more people inside. But on the other hand, that probably would've been an even bigger chore to animate. Looks absolutely fantastic though, especially with the music and all!
The traditional Chinese Dancing Tiger with 2 puppeteers. Great concept. 🎉
Me and My brother going to the movie theater to watch an adult movie
holy shit, I don't know how I never noticed the head guy's arms moving it
you're blind then. they literally show it in the intro cutscene
@@g0lddustt29I thought it was some lion monster thing
@@g0lddustt29 dude this is elden ring. You'd be crazy to believe it's just two guys in a suit with all the things we've fought. At best you'd probably think it's some weird human hybrid amalgamation of a lion and a human. Ain't no way we're suppose to know that thing is just two dudes in a suit. Especially when they hype it up to be a some kinda protector or beast when you talk to the blind woman in the store room.
@@CJS3637_MforAone I’m talking about “not noticing the head guy’s arms moving it” when it literally shows their two hands moving the mouth in the cutscene lmao
@@g0lddustt29 ooooh. I didn't see the hands moving the mouth, I was too busy making a joke about how we've got to fight a furry cause it's got actual hands and feet instead of whatever maliketh is. Good observation. It definitely stumped me on being a divine dancing lion.
Total respect for the guy behind, who can’t fight and is just there to make the lion look cool.
Kermit the frog returned to achieve his revenge
The movements of the guy behind are kinda cute :*
It really was just two weirdos under a bedsheet, I knew it!
Asian players would be very familiar with this stuff especially east asia as dancing lion always in the festival every year
These two guys are really the most skilled Lion Dancers ive seen in my life
Yes! I have been waiting for this since the first trailer.
I love how they gave them panties, even when we wouldn't even notice them.
They're called fundoshi, not panties.
@@zombehnashun But panties sound funnier.
its still panties bro, some asian type panties
We can actually notice them (or at least those of the guy in the back) after a certain charge attack.
Decided to draw this boss but only had 480p cutscenes to reference so this is huge thank you man I love you
This is surprisingly interestong...its 2 guysbjuey like in a typical dragon dance costume
Oh, you got an mask on you alright. See that's what he's talking about. Spread your mask open, dude. You can do the Lion shaker, huh? The beast shaker; gimme the beast shaker, dude, shake your mask! Put your hands on it and shake that shit. Pull your mask up, I know you can shake it, shake it! Yeah that's some Beast ass right there. Oh yeah, that'll work. You got the Artwork, dude! God damn. Look good, bro? Yes. Yeah nice, huh? Alright that'll work for him. Put that Buff on.
would you do a cinematic video showcasing his amazing moves and phases?
This is like those Chinese Lion tamer dance!
Thats what it immediatly reminded me of
Amazing concept. Great execution but this fight was not pleasant at all. Camera was a nightmare.
I knew this boss was inspired by costumed performers, but I'm quite surprised to see two fully modeled people actually inside the costume. FromSoft continues to be next level with their attention to detail.
This strongly implies that the heaven sent two dudes in a costume instead of an actual divine lion to the people of Belurat
@@jeffcarroll1990shockI get the impression that the Omen and other crucible aspects are worshipped in Belurat. The horn-y knights for instance
@@jeffcarroll1990shock Omens weren't shunned in Belurat. If anything, they were the upperclass citizen there. They just lost a war against Marika and are now reduced to mere slaves and sewage dwellers in the lands between.
Hmmm, the old lady in Belurat mentioned something about divine beings possessing vessels that the denizens created for them, not that physical beasts were actually sent down.
@@jeffcarroll1990shock the happenings on base game is after the war, so marika is the one who shunned the omen and commonized the fear of omen, so your first claim kinda doesn't make sense.
Given the ones puppeteering the lion suit are called "sculpted keepers," I think it's safe to assume they're some sort of golems. And that said golems would (like happens in the boss fight) be possessed by a divine spirit of some sort.
Nobody realized this but this looks a lot like a redesign of the Sanctuary Guardian from Dark Souls 1, it's got lightning and everything!
Not a big fan of the fight but man his theme and design are so good
It’s basically a lion dance, by far peak design in fact the best boss design in the dlc… this thing inflict fear to me when the intro start like no any other boss has done, I just love scary and terrifying boss

@Andzei9825 maybe. Make sure to grab those dlc upgrades. I was lv 4 so maybe that helped?
@@JohnDoe-ligma I was level 4 and I barely could deal damage with 80 str ultra greatsword, moreover it's so hard to find openings in this fight and boss itself spams too many AoEs in second phase. Mind blowing! Such a great design!
Whatever it is, it got a booty on it
The Chinese name of this boss is just Lion Dance. Love it.
Based off Chinese lion dancers, what a cool concept for a boss
The concept is like a lion dance from China
I love the idea that the guys inside are just best friends who are so in sync because they're just having fun doing their dance. Even when being stabbed, slashed, and bludgeoned, they're just happy to dance
When I entered the boss room I was scared because this was the ONLY boss I did not wanna encounter early especially first when I saw the trailer. The two rows of teeth and eyes creep me out. Especially the mane that makes it look less lion and more human in this case since its in its face😭😭
It looks similar to mythological creatures from bali
