I think it's neat that the Hornsent revere a horned lion god, but with Radahn reincarnated into Mohg's body, he essentially IS a horned lion god. Elden Ring is full of prophecies being fulfilled in unexpected ways, so it would be really funny if, all this time, the Hornsent were building their religion out of a prophecy of Radahn.
While an Elden Lord isn't a god, you raise a great point about the literal horns and the figurative lion creating an ironically appropriate boss for Enir-Ilim.
That is a necessary part of how prophecy functions in George Martin's writing. Whether it is Targaryen dragon dreams or visions seen in the flames by Red Priests of R'hllor - prophecy is always fulfilled in unexpected ways. A dramatic irony that lends itself to tragedy.
@@bluebird2217i also felt like there were some parallels between the horned warriors' movesets and radahn's, the dual wielding ones specifically had a similar feel to their combos
Weird to see how new Radahn is so overflowing with Grace, his eyes are literally GLOWING. Starscourge didn't lost his Grace, but his eyes don't glow as much...
Thats because Scarlet Rot is overtaking Starscourge. In his old eyes you see red creeping in (demigod's eyes are normally pale when without grace). Makes sense considering Rot is the other Outer God.
@@KolinarK I mean, we saw at least one dude who won the Grace by himself (Morgott) and even he wasn't glowing so brightly, new Radahn is basically in super Saiyan mode.
Imagine that. So our boy has Miquella announcing him that he wanted to be his consort before the Shattering (cutscene), after which Radahn, probably disgusted or uninteresed, walks away and gets Malenia on his ass to kill him so that he can be forced into being a consort. During the Shattering when their mother needed them the most. Meanwhile, Malenia who's been promised that she will get her curse cured after Miquella becomes a god, after a long time waiting, infects Radahm, nukes Caelid with mega AIDs that leaves the entire region under heavy radiation and evolves the entire life into miserably creatures, gets sent in a coma and is barely saved by her knights, goes to the Ephael, infects the tree and everyone there, waits for AGES until the Tarnished comes and beats her ass. Meanwhile, Miquella forced her brother Mohg to become his consort (fake but he doesn't know that lol), bathe him in gallons of blood, so that he can go in the Shadow Realm, destroy a bunch of shit there, then steal Mohg's body, desecrates it, forces his brother into it with all the horns and issues of it anyways, and then gets destroyed by the Tarnished... Imagine that...
I still feel bad for Mohg. 2 years of allegations, and he finally beat it after his death and the truth behind Miquella. Mohg would never be again without his flesh nor soul, but at least he was granted back his honor and dignity by Ansbach and you, who felled him.
Guys, he had the war surgeons brains removed and tampered with and tortured them to a degree they all went insane. Yeah, he wasn't a pedo, but he was on the worse side of demigods in terms of what he did.
I know he's supposed to be in his prime at the end, but I find Starscourge Radahn a hell of a lot more awesome, to hold the stars in place even as your mind is withering away and it takes a coalition of warriors to make a festival of war to give you an honorable death in combat.
Want to point out, this STILL isn't Radahn in his prime. Miquella stuffed his soul inside Mogh's body. He may be free of Scarlet Rot, but without Leonard and with the possibility that he may be under Miquella's charm, there's good odds that this is a stronger, but still not definitive Radahn fight.
@@TREVORVADERnot to mention that even if this was him in his own body it still wouldn't be prime Radahn. His armour and swords mentions how this is a younger Radahn before the feat of holding up the stars. Presumably prime Radahn would be the Radahn who fought Malenia

A "definitive" Radahn would have essentially been unbeatable. Then again given the status of the fromsoft fanbase, there would still be some idiots defending an unbeatable boss.

I noticed something: The engraving on each set of the swords. Starscourge variant's detailing seems more radial, almost as if it's showing Radahn projecting his magical power and control (of the stars), or as a depiction of his bestial might that showers in waves (possibly relating to his current state in an ironic sense as well). The Consort variant by comparison seems a lot more subdued. Almost as if his power and might, while still projecting out from the center, is chained or controlled. It also looks a lot more like traditional royal engravings, more sleek and elegant. Goes to show: no matter how well meaning Miquella was with his intentions, gilded chains are still chains.
It's a good theory! My personal take (based on the armor description after you beat them), is that the armor and swords used by the Promised Consort are the armaments used by a younger Radahn, before he became the Starscourge, and way before the Shattering.
funny you should mention gilded chains since Consort has literal golden chains adorning his set, while Starscourge does not. maybe you did that on purpose though LOL. either way, I'd say it speaks further to your point that the Radahn we find at the Divine Gate is not entirely there of his own free will
I thought the engravings on his new blades looked a lot like the golden threads Marika held up but i feel like this is a better/more complete interpretation
@@quint3ssent1a I disagree. Angron didn't have red hair or armor with horns on it. Magnus did. And let's not forget that, like Radahn, Magnus favored the sword, whereas Angron preferred axes.
No matter the form, Radahn has some heavy Doom Slayer aura between his standart expression and physical bulk, sheer might and badassery, complete silence, and love for animals.
Yeah, realized this when I saw more of his hair in the phase 2 cutscene. Can also spot more lion decals on the armor, showing how much he loves Godfrey.
I think his great rune made him even bigger than normal. Compare how big he was against Morgott vs how big he was against Malenia. Both were during the shattering but at the start and end I suppose.
Consort is meant to be more divine Also it would make sense that they put more focus on star scourge since it was in the publicity him and malenia where the faces of elden ring
I was sort of hoping there'd be a secret interaction if you start the battle using his Great Rune, like wearing Velstadt's helmet causes Raime to immediately aggro in DS2.
he does not have great rune, because great runes are parts of shattered eldent ring. that's why Messmer also does not have one, as he was sealed away in the realm of shadow before the shattering
Comparing the models like this makes a couple interesting comparisons. One: Radahn's appearance *and* armor changed some time after his conquest of the stars. Not only did he ostensibly pick up the bow, but he had his swords reforged to feature the gravitational web on them (not to mention their proportional changes). He also either began wearing full sleeves, or: Malenia's Scarlet Rot & the years of war/isolation caused his skin to become scaly. Honestly, given the state of the crows and Dogs in Caelid, the size difference & the skin being the way it is makes a lot of sense to attribute to the Rot. But by far the most fascinating (and beautiful) thing to me is that even on his deathbed, driven mad and enfeebled by Malenia's Rot, Radahn remained not just alive but *grace-given*. Look at his eyes. Dimmed, but still unmistakably gold. Honestly this fight really just heightened what a fucking legend Radahn is to not just be mighty enough to be Miquella's consort, mighty enough to potentially rival the likes of Godfrey and Radagon (Both King Consorts of "the old Order"), but strong enough to halt the progression of the stars to defy his fate and-- knowingly or not-- Ranni's, too (because remember, Radahn is also a Carian, whose fates are tied to the stars). Strong enough to STALEMATE Malenia the Severed and her Scarlet Aeonia, a biohazard of such terrifying self-propagation that it nearly overtook Limgrave, were it not for the burning walls the Redmanes set up. The ONLY reason Miquella ever received his Promised Consort is because the TARNISHED finally put Radahn out of his misery and allowed the stars to turn once more.
I just realized watching this, that Starscourge Radahn’s body is turning black-this could visually show how his body is necrotic from the rot-BUT upon multiple views he actually reminds me of an Onyx Lord in appearance 😨

Honestly the new look ain't half bad His size is a huge difference and something about his new pose is weird but the hair is really beautiful and those braids are really cool
The new pose is like an early 2000s video game model with a distinct "static animation." It really sort of drives home the point that Radahn at this point is like some sort of Frankenstein's monster with limited autonomy.

Whether this was a result of his Great Rune which boosts health, stamina and mana, which could mean that his body literally grew to match the increase in vitality, or the Scarlet Rott mutating him is up for debate.

It should have been Mogh's Omen model that we fight, clad in Radahns armour and using his gravity magic. The small Omen horns sticking out weren't very clear to me imo
I think a better blend of both characters would’ve been to keep this model as is, but show Mohg’s signature omen horns on Radahns head. I think it was a missed opportunity to see Mohg’s horn shape peeking out of the red mane.

It's kinda messed up how Miquella dressed him up in his old clothes, presumably the ones he wore when Miquella tried to make Radahn his consort. Edit: I have since realised it is even more messed up, just how did Miquella get that armour. Has he been hoarding Radahn's old clothes the whole time?
@@OnlySinusodial Miquella treats everyone like toys Including his sister that he watched nuke a continent for him, then put to sleep and abandoned entirely
My favorite character design detail is the use of twin braids in Radahn's hair; it's a motif originating in Marika, but abandoned by her in the Shaman Village. Since then it became associated with Miquella, and now appears in Radahn as his king consort--a feature he never had, not even in his youth. It's a childish, innocent hairstyle, and the fact that this frankenstein of Radahn is sporting them is such a compelling detail to me--it implies that the Radahn we see is one that Miquella curated, or manipulated, in his image.
I like your take on this, but I believe that Godfrey has a braid of hair in the front and the back, so the younger Radahn could be emulating that. Godfrey's beard is braided too.

Radahn cant be happy to be stuffed into Mohgs body. I like the Omen horns coming out if the Consort Radahns gauntlets. He is not even there, he is just a frankestein-like amalgamation created by Miquella to help him achieve his apotheosis.
He's 100% there. We don't know how he feels about Mohg's body, but Mohg's body was remade to be his younger self, so it's not an unfamiliar shell. All it has are a few horns. I've come to terms with Radahn's return pretty well. And I like how his design looks so holy and perfect at first but then you see the cracks (or horns) start to show and you realize the horrific implications of it, just like Miquella's whole order. Even if Godwyn would've fit, he is soul-dead. I just wish some lore mentioned that he was Miquella's first choice or something and that the Mohg/Radahn solution was a plan B after Miquella failed to revive Godwyn's soul
The fact Miquella even tried to revive Godwyn’s soul does hint at that perhaps being the case, though I agree it would’ve been nice to have some real confirmation. Sadly, that just ain’t Miyazaki’s style.
I could be wrong, but I believe that there's a lot of threads in the base-game already that implied Miquella attempted (but failed to) bring back Godwyn's soul via the Eclipse, so I think this was a case of people not reading too deep into those aspects of the lore--assuming they would be expanded upon with the DLC. Same thing with the Gloam Eyed Queen; the base-game already has a ton of details to read into/extrapolate, and a full story to understand (a foil to Marika's early reign, killed by Maliketh, her servants remained to hunt the gods down, Rykard finds the clearly Gloam-related snake, appears to be a part of Melina, ect), but people were so hyped by her existance and aesthetics that they anticipated a battle or direct appearance--even though she is very clearly dead. The DLC introduces (in my opinion) some pretty direct clues to that story with the Base Serpent concept, but I think it was silly to expect her to show up as a huge boss, or a major character, when the reveal of Melina as Gloam Eyed takes place only after the story is already over, in only one of the endings. You GOT your Gloam Eyed Queen story in the base-game. Meanwhile, the DLC expands on beats that actually mattered; like the nature of spirits, Marika's backstory, the nature of the Omen Curse, and Elden John's ruins.
@@SeNki3301 The Remembrance from this final boss says Miquella admired Radahn from childhood, so I think he always meant Radahn to be his Consort because he was strong, brave and kind. I just want to know why he didn't choose malenia. She basically already was a consort and a new body would cure her. Miquella abandoned his love so consort in this context doesn't mean romantic marriage.
Los detalles en ambas versiones son una locura, como en la versión resucitada que tiene los cuernos sobre saliendo en los brazos por haber usado el cuerpo de Moghwin
I wish they'd make consort radahn more of an amalgamatjon of both mohg and starscourge, it would've been more of a spectacle of what Miquella can really do, but instead it's just radahn with some omen horns spiking out of his gauntlets and one singular bloodflame attack. I did like the boss fight i just wish, design wise, he was just a tad darker and matched with the 'omen body stolen' theme, he should've been more akin to a monster imo.
"what Miquella can really do"? This IS what Miquella can really do, he wanted to bring Radahn back, he didn't want an amalgamation of them both. If he looks more like Radahn then it shows Miquella's prowess at shaping him more, not less. If he looked like both of them it would show sloppy craftsmanship.

Before Miquellas influence, he had followers like Ansbach. After Miquella he had Varre and the creepy ass bloodmen living in bloodpools. Only reason he was collecting blood and sending bloody fingers to slaughter others was to collect blood for Miquella's cocoon. Miquella is obsessed about Radahn. When Radahn refused to become his consort, he sent his sister to kill him so he could get his hands on Radahn's soul and force him to obey. His sister literally nearly killed herself to fulfill his wishes.
I don't understand the people arguing that Radahn actually wanted to be Miquella's consort. Radahn is a warrior who idolizes Godfrey, reveres strength and honor and wanted a warrior's death, as honor would dictate. He chose to side with the Golden Order and actively took up the mantle of Starscourge to hold back the stars and prevent Ranni AND Miquella from achieving their goals. I can't fathom the argument I've seen people make that Radahn fully agreed to be Miquella's consort yet wanted to die first, for some reason? Miquella has enemies and plenty of things he hasn't charmed so its not like Radahn can't fight still. No, he joined the Order and held back the stars to stop people from doing what he disagreed with, directly impeding Ranni and Miquella for who knows how many years before we show up. Radahn clearly doesn't want this and is clearly under Miquella's puppet control, yet I continue to see people argue a consensual route of "alright I'll be your consort but first I want to die in honorable combat so send Malenia to kill me and then resurrect me so I can serve you and be a warmonger for your brainwashing future which goes directly against the honorable and noble strength lifestyle I've lived my entire for. It is also implied that during the Shattering wars Radahn attacked Leyndell to become Elden Lord and since the picture of Morgott beating Radahn Shows Morgott hooded, most likely in his Margit persona, I would bet Morgott pulled a sneak attack on Radahn telling him to leave which Radahn obliged to. The strarting frames of the transition of phase 1 are a reference to godfrey phase transition, but sort of inverted (Also the animation is inverted). When godfrey took off the grafted beast Serosh, divesting himself of what allowed him to become a lord, while in Radahn case he does the same thing Horah Loux did to become a lord, he and Miquella sort of graft together. And also thats what made me soil my pants when i first saw that, in base game we really see few examples of grafting, the scions and the revenants are no joke to mess around, specially the revenants. But in term of bosses we only had 2 examples, Godrick a frail little man seeking to steal the power of others so he can convience himself he is worthy of his bloodline, and Godfrey, that we can asume the graft sort of contain his strength so he would be capable of be a Lord. But in this case, Radahn and Miquella, you have plenty of reasons to fear both of them, and thats terrifying. Well the 2nd phase gave us a lot of reasons to fear it (Some hitbox are bullshit tho)

Interestingly the Hornsent warriors wield double curved swords and great curved swords while Radahn wields double great curved swords.

Realistically I'm sure he's using his powers to control him, but I also like the idea that he's coercing Radahn
Great interpretation!
It's a good theory!
My personal take (based on the armor description after you beat them), is that the armor and swords used by the Promised Consort are the armaments used by a younger Radahn, before he became the Starscourge, and way before the Shattering.
funny you should mention gilded chains since Consort has literal golden chains adorning his set, while Starscourge does not. maybe you did that on purpose though LOL. either way, I'd say it speaks further to your point that the Radahn we find at the Divine Gate is not entirely there of his own free will
Starscourge's engravings are actually based on the Gravitational Pull of the planet. Very cool stuff when you look at it deep enough.

@@shaded3695 That's doesn't make sense though, he is significantly larger than Mohg.

Someone needs to animate Starscourge picking up Consort and playing with him like Patrick did Squidward in that episode where Spongebob shrunk him.
that's the thing, isn't it? It's Miquella's idealized version of him when they were young
I think somebody mentioned it already or not but you can just SEE Consort Radahn's eyes are overflowing with grace
Radahn cant be happy to be stuffed into Mohgs body. I like the Omen horns coming out if the Consort Radahns gauntlets. He is not even there, he is just a frankestein-like amalgamation created by Miquella to help him achieve his apotheosis.
I think, with Miquella ascending and being a literal god, this was a true resurrection, and not just some necromancy.
@@LeoStep93yup, he was alive again, but just in a new casing and hardware
He's 100% there. We don't know how he feels about Mohg's body, but Mohg's body was remade to be his younger self, so it's not an unfamiliar shell. All it has are a few horns. Freyja knew him very well personally and says this is what he'd want. A massive war to make the world more compassionate is pretty much ideal for him.
@@BulldogFromHell Na-ah. He does not say a word. Not a grunt, nothing, even while you fight him. Freyja is brainwashed just like the rest.
Also i'm shure a young Radahn wouldnt like to fight without Leonard at his side, this dude feels more like a Miquella Representation of Radahn than Radahn himself that is back to life, that would explains why he is mute and his weird pose
Just goes to show how much of an absolute unit Starscourge Radahn was. I only know one Radahn, and it is the general and the conqueror of the stars.
Yeah I’m honestly completely fine with treating Consort Radahn like it didn’t happen. Bro is such a downgrade in every way
@@TREVORVADERMan, actual Prime Rahdan would be completely ridiculous. Like, imagine the Starscourge fight, but he has feet, attack patterns fast enough to draw with Malenia, and HP/damage output fitting for an endgame boss (seriously, how the fuck does getting hit by a goddamned gravity-enhanced telephone pole hurt *less* than getting shanked by some random dude in Leyndell?).
Granted, a *lot* of From bosses become a lot more terrifying when you remove their crippling injuries/illnesses/corruption/etc (Gwyn in particular probably tipping the list), but Prime Rahdan in particular would make a lot of people quit.
@@jacksonscott3667 yeah I don’t ever wanna actually fight it. It would be a nightmare. Same with Placidusax with all his heads. Bro could probably 360 laser around his entire body.
A ferocious warrior!
this breaks my heart on so many levels. my boy deserved better.
Interesting that radahn has the tiniest hint of an omen curse. (And looks like patches lmao)
I reallly love both literally my favorite boss in entire Elden Ring and its dlc
Considering this info, I would say trying to revive Godwyn seemingly had nothing to do with any Consortship, it was just Miquella wanting his big bro back.
I just want to know why he didn't choose malenia. She basically already was a consort and a new body would cure her. Miquella abandoned his love so consort in this context doesn't mean romantic marriage.
@@SmartCreeper Maybe Lord Consorts can't be Empyrians as well 🤔
From Scarlet Rot Zombie to Creepy Stepbrother's Zombie Husband
Radahn and Mohg deserved better
1:59 a cape really does wonders
The fact that this version of radahn has his hair vowen at the back of his head like radagon is an awesome detail.
Godfrey hairstyle
i like how now you can see how much bigger radahns great rune really made him. also i didn’t realize radahn was agent 47
Radahn did the lookmaxxing thing.
The Mohglester's redemption
An interesting detail: when poise broken, the animation is the exact same as Mohg
The cranium on this man is insane. Damn you Miquella lol
My exact thoughts
"what Miquella can really do"? This IS what Miquella can really do, he wanted to bring Radahn back, he didn't want an amalgamation of them both. If he looks more like Radahn then it shows Miquella's prowess at shaping him more, not less.
If he looked like both of them it would show sloppy craftsmanship.
I think it’s more telling how fucked Miquella is. So powerful that he can just about erase almost all of Moghs traces, effectively wiping his existence completely. No body, no soul, just small traces of him that can be easily missed
@@3th3r78 This is a reaaally good point to be fair, I'm just coping because I wanted something like Gael or Orphan of Kos to appear as the final boss, something horrific to tie together the dark/tragic story of Miquella's ascent to godhood, which is really me coping because no godwyn
@@FishWithLipstick Tbh this is really fucking horrific. The monster brianwashed and completely ruined Mogh, who according to Ansbach both in speech and world-building cues, was a honorable and just lord who took in the downtrodden.
Well at least Consort Radahn doesn't look like a cartoon character with these weird ass proportions
from a chad to buckbroken...
The omen horns are very subtle
He's not mohg enough, should have given his wings to give trauma to players 😂
What a god damn legendary fight. Love the music, the attacks are insane. Perfect
I do find it funny they had to confirm his red hair was indeed his, and not his helmet.
Love you Miquella"
If he sided with the golden order, why did he fight Morgott and why does Morgott call him a traitor? I am not so sure
@@dgomezzzzz Morgott was never a member of any faction. He loved the Golden Order but at the same time was discarded by it cause of his Omen self.
During the shattering he crowned himself King of Leyndell to protect the erdtree and the Golden Order itself. As his remembrance said he loved the Golden Order but was never loved in return.
You gotta realize that the other demigods didn't really know much about the omen twins since they were cast into the sewers to keep them hidden, so Radahn possibly didn't even know who Morgott really was.
@@dgomezzzzz because everyone at that point was either fighting to defend themselves or fighting to gain control. Radahn is the mightiest demigod who loves war, it's not impossible for him to have decided to try it and fought Morgott, lost, and then went back to his side of the continent to regroup and defend itself. I also highly doubt an army led by Malenia is a secretive thing so he had to go on the defensive. His allegiance is to the Godfrey, his personal views, and the Golden Order, but it doesn't mean he has to side with everyone
1:25 can you get a clearer shot of the Starscourge cape imagery? In hindsight it looks suspiciously like Haligtree symbols, but there's probably half a dozen Erdtree or primeval current depictions which could also explain its origins.
It is indeed the Heiligtree/Miquella's symbol on both.
@@FaeQueenCory So that confirms it. Mister Radahn step away from that child and take a Seat.
@@AzraelSoulHunter
He didnt want to go through with it though, thats the whole reason he fought Malenia. Inconcensual.
@@are3287 Except it's not. The Rite Scroll spells it out quite clearly that Radahn needs to die as his soul requires a vessel and suicide is not something that would fit for Radahn as his a battle junkie and a warmonger so he most likely wanted Miquella to send Malenia to him so they can both have a big fight. Also he made a vow with Jerren so he kills him so either way for SOME reason Radahn wanted to die. And now we know the reason for it.
I think it's supposed to be a a tall, narrow Erdtree with a canopy full of seeds. Also, due to Liurnia and Sellia having some contact with the Nox, it might be inspired by the patterns on the Nox's gigantic thrones to boot.
It's incredible to think that we still don't know how a full power radahn in his right state of mind fights
consort radahn phase 1 is litteraly it
you might say "but hes smaller" but then hes also in a omen's body (who are superior creatures in terms of strengh and magic)
@@idkwhattonameopentosugge-ng6cm he is still being mind controlled by miquella tho
Yeah he doesnt have his beloved steed Leonard in the dlc fight. Miquella isnt even trying to imitate or care for Radahn.
@@idkwhattonameopentosugge-ng6cm actually no, consort radahn is probably not radahn himself but rather a puppet of Miquella prime Radahn would be something in his own body, riding Leonard and much bigger as we know Morgot defeated a young Radahn but prime Radahn isn't mentioned anywhere probably Malenia fought him and Scarlet Nuke couldn't even finish him off.
Or full power Leonard
Holy crap, I never noticed that Starscourge straight-up doesn’t have feet. It makes perfect sense for him to rely on Leonard for mobility.
Yeah it seems like scarlet rot eats your limbs. Millicent lost her arm. Malenia lost her arm and lower legs, as well as her eyes so she is blind.
Looking at his face, he reminds me of Doomguy. And it just feels right.
Miquella: Wanna be waifus UwU?
Mohg: OMG YES! Hold up... why not my brother?
*flashbacks*
Miquella: Wanna be waifus UwU?
Morgott: Thy kind are all of a piece. Have it written upon thy meagre grave...
young radahn when he fought the stars and won, Versus old man Radahn Starscourge the blighted heart; poor dude him, and mohg getting blindsided by the embodiment of Alabama, is just such a tragedy.
You know, Radhan being the chosen consort would explain why the haligtree has so much carian influence, from some weapons, to its aesthetic. They even got crystallians and those warrior sorcerers from caelid. It was Miquella making home for his lord. And thematically, having radhan and miq being associated with being broken by scarlet rot almost links them.
Thank you for these amazing deep dives. I don't think anybody could see even half these details given how fast the fight goes
Starscourge: 😠
Consort: 🤫🧏
Interesting, with the chains around his arms, it's almost like he's a caged lion.
Name brand Radahn vs Temu Radahn
I hadn't even noticed that the cutscene in Enir Ilim was the same as the animation in the story trailer! That's really cool!
Me: ah yes this is it. Surely this last boss fight will be miquella in all his splendid glory. I mean surely all the lore points to this, right?
Miyazaki: *prime radahns me into fucking oblivion*
3:08 my name is maxiums decimus meridius
Starscourge looks way more intimidating I was so disappointed when I first saw consort design at first glance he looks thinner and feel weaker.
somehow the "Now" face looks like it was taken from Doom 3
I see betruger in it
The only being with omen like features whos eyes still have the grace of gold
