I had a positive breath test, after 14 years of reoccurring diarrhea, I started the Fod Map diet It helps considerably, I also take an activated charcoal pill once a week or twice if I am having symptons. I also developed a clinic approved intolerance to celery. Celery will destroy three days of my life until it leaves my system. Very interesting, I learned a lot from you video.
Hi Pam, thanks for watching, and I'm glad my video helped. Do you have all the support you need for your SIBO treatment?
I cant agree more about customizing approach. Nearly everyone pays tribute to this while they still tend to come up with blanket solutions. Thank you for a well focussed and helpful (and hopeful!) presentation
Hi! I'm glad you found it useful :)
Fascinating! You are very good at presenting information. Thank you. In a nutshell, it seems like we are just hosts for all these organisms.
Yes, it's kind of all about the interrelationships of the microbiome, and overgrowth triggered by all these other factors. Thanks so much again for watching!
Thanks for summarizing and explaining these new concepts Amanda! This was super helpful.
Hi Daniel, you're most welcome! What kind of doctor are you??
@@ConfluenceNutrition I'm a PharmD! I don't practice in a traditional pharmacy setting anymore though.
@@dr.danielricciardi awesome! Nice to meet you :) And I see on your channel you talk a lot about SIBO too.
@@ConfluenceNutrition Nice meeting you as well and yes I do!
Excellent video. First that’s given me hope in a very long time.🤗
Hurray! Glad you feel like it helped, Linda! Keep the faith, there is hope for healing SIBO and resolution!
This is fascinating. I have tested for H. Pylori and Sibo. However the doctor later told me they used a test that tests for both H. Pylori and SIBO, but told me I don't have either.
True on not on that test I don't know. I do know that there this video gives me hope to possibly finding an issue I'm facing so that perhaps I can solve it.
I have a hiatal hernia. Diagnosed with a 4cm hiatal hernia ( no clue if it's gotten way worse or better. I only know that being calm helps a ton.
Even before my hernia I've been dealing with constipation and severe low abdominal bloating.
It comes and goes and sugar, gluten and dairy seem to play a big role, so I avoid them often.
This video speaks of parasites. Weeks before everything went bad I was at our local Indian casino. Great, fun place to escape. I like my coffee and I always got some there. 2 nights in a row their coffee tasted worse than curled milk. Disgusting and I resorted to tea or soda.
Ever since then it's been really bad. Examples of how bad
- bloating as if I'm pregnant
- I'm the beginning my intestines felt like they were ripped open ( not anymore thank God )
- constipation
- feeling like I was choking ( couldn't keep down food )
- food slowed down or didn't seem to move as it once did ( I could actually tell, and sometimes still do )
Dizziness, brain fog, memory loss, and as described in this video felt like communication from brain to gut just didn't work.
Better now, but still not 100% feels like a war I'm fighting in my body
Hi Ryan, yes, it sounds like there is a lot going on...what are you doing to try and manage/resolve your symptoms?
@@ConfluenceNutrition Well for the constipation I found that using a foot stool helps with bowel movements.
I have for months now added fruit and more water/ cut back on caffeine which helps with Dehydration.
I try to cut back on sugar although I still enjoy it to an extent
I drink bone broth and that helps too, but I moderate it because the broth has a lot of salt
I walk often which helps as well.
I still face bloating and it really sucks. One day my pants stay up because im bloated another day I need a belt because im not bloated at all and they fall down often. It really sucks.
@@rmt74358 bloating is tough, I hear you! Thank you for sharing your experience, too. It sounds like you're working on quite a few things which is great! 2:35 that's exactly what happened to me 3 years ago, I ate something (dont remember what) and felt horrible for like 4/5 days, since then I started developing gut problems
Yes, not unusual. I just met with someone yesterday who had the same experience. Is this something you're needing help with?
Hi Amanda, thank you so much for the update. I was treating CANDIDA for 3 months with the candida diet and natural agents, including probiotics, prebiotics and mucosa building formula,,, but then I started having SIBO symptoms, and because I have no way to test it where I live... I decided to treat it as SIBO. So I stopped the probiotics, and changed to FODMAP diet and now taking Berberine. I feel much better now .... I just wanted to mention that I also tried to take the Apple Cider Vinegar like 30 mins before meals but I did not tolerate that, and when I stopped I felt better. So this coincide with the update you just mention about Butane HCL I guess... Thank you so much again
Great work, Nadia. ACV sometimes is a problem for people with candida/yeast issues as well, but whatever the reason, you did the right thing to back off and refocus. Thanks so much for sharing your experience, and for watching!
Before I knew I had sibo and just had lpr symptoms I was trying to supplement with acv and hcl and felt so much worse! This makes me feel not crazy!!
Yay for validation! Glad you learned something new :) Thanks for watching!
Honestly I just don't know who or what to believe anymore. EVERYONE is completely contradicting of each other. Not one person, Md, dr, natural path says the same thing. One says do this the other says DONT. Im starting to not even believe sibo is real, simply by the fact that NO ONE can get it straight and every person thinks it's this or that or this. Meh
Hi Sam, I totally hear your frustration. I do think that until very recently SIBO has been misunderstood. And even within that, one thing I hold strongly to is that we are all different, so our route to success is going to be different than any number of other people. The point is to figure what works well for YOU, using the theory as a starting place, not as a set-in-stone reality, because it will always need to be adapted. Dunno if that helps, but I thank you for watching.
Thank you for taking the time to help with this very informative video. It helps us a lot!!
You're super welcome, David, it's my pleasure!
I've listened to a lot of UA-cam videos on SIBO and this is one of the most encouraging one's I've heard so far. Thank you‼️
You're very welcome, Peter, glad you could watch!
Wow...so much condensed, detailed info....and you're speaking fast too 😄
Glad you liked the video, but sorry it seems too fast! Did you know that you can slow down your playback on UA-cam? If you click on the three vertical dots on the upper right hand corner of the video (on your mobile device) or by clicking the gear "settings" icon at the bottom of the video (on your computer browser view), and selecting "playback speed", and choosing 0.75x or even 0.50x. Hope that helps!
Very good information. I plan to take notes and discuss it with my gastro at my next appointment. My old gastro who works 100 miles away, diagnosed me with SIBO when my methane was off the chart and I was not sick. He told me to "stop feeding the monster" and cut out sugar. I did and the SIBO episodes stopped.
I'm glad I can help...and I'm glad the simple change of removing sugar made such an important difference. What are you currently dealing with?

I've been saying it for roughly 4 years that my gut haven't been the same since I've got sick after eating fried fish at a restaurant near my home. Since then I've had less bowel movements, loose stools, and one of the weirdest things i have it i feel like I've lost weight, like my clothing is looser but on the scale it says i still weigh the same. I've felt terrible since then. I'm not sure what's going on. Traditional doctors do not know how to treat bacterial overgrowths.
Not at all weird, and actually quite common! I suppose this means you haven't been tested for SIBO?

@@ConfluenceNutrition At the moment trying low fodmap diet which is ok but ideally I'd like a functional medicine doctor but they are very expensive. I Got a medicine called rifaximin which I'm reluctant to take because i don't actually have a Sibo diagnosis and didn't know if taking a medicine for something i might not have could cause more harm than good.
@@太好了F Hi there, got it...I'm not a functional doctor, but I'm a functional nutrition practitioner and these are the exact kinds of challenges and questions I help clients with, because you're right, it IS confusing, and there's often much more support needed beyond "here take this pill". If this is something you maybe need help with, let's set up a call so I can see if I might be able to fill in that gap for you. Would you like to?
Thank you for this information. Once I started to learn about using prokinetics, I got one with ACV in it..... haven't been breath tested yet (this week!) so I will hold off..... hoping for great results with proper treatment 💪😍
Best of luck to you with your new approach :)
I have tested positive for bith hydrogen and methane SIBO, though the methane result was much higher, meaning an overgrowth of both bacteria and archaea. My symptoms are quite severe and debilitating. To the point where it's hard for me to believe I only have sibo. Ive thought for years i must have a structural defect in my system. But nothing else has been found in all the tests I've done, which includes imaging. I have pain every single day, without exception, which is constant, even when I fast. But definitely worse after eating. I have ONLY constipation, absolutely never do I get the diarrhea. I honestly wish I had the opposite problem, because when i was younger i had IBS with frequent bowel movements, and can say for a fact that chronic constpation is much worse. The SIBO with constipation has been going on now for 8 years. And it absolutely did start with food poisoning. A very severe bout of food poisoning. I also had the misfortune of having just come off a week of azythromicin about a week before the food poisoning. So much of my microbiome and immune system were destroyed just before the poisoning.
I have no idea what to do at this point. I've tried many of the herbs, to include black walnut, wormwood, oregano oil, garlic, blackseed oil, caprylic acid, etc. My system is so sensitive that all those seem to just cause pain and inflammation. Garlic is out of the question being high fodmap, which is terrible for SIBO symptoms. I've done more research and tried a greater variety of probiotics than most people will in their lifetime. Probiotics like Bravo from Switzerland, Seed, Visbiome, a custom formula from Viome, and many others that I've researched over the years. This was before I did my research about how bad Probiotics can be for SIBO. That all makes sense now. All Probiotics, including fermented foods, make me sicker. So then I built up the courage to try Probiotic enemas 😬. I've tried quite a few, and they've done nothing for me.
Right now I have a very expensive bottle of rifaxamin sitting on my bathroom shelf, which I am debating trying. I just hate antibiotics, and all drugs for that matter. And I know that there is a high rate of relapse of SIBO after taking rifaxamin, especially with archaea. Antibiotics will not effectively kill off archaea like they will bacteria, so I really don't know what to do at this point.
Hi Philip, my heart goes out to you...I know how hard it is. I also was very resistant to the antibiotics, but they changed my life and helped me heal from SIBO. Although, the protocol for methane is to pair the rifaximin with either neomycin or metronidazole. This has been shown to be more effective. I did several videos detailing my SIBO treatment process, here is the first one: ua-cam.com/video/pRYMIY14oHo/v-deo.html
And then the relapse rate is often due to not following up properly, so here is my video where I discuss how to prevent relapse: ua-cam.com/video/KiiwD_IiCmM/v-deo.html, and the overall SIBO treatment plan roadmap, also important: ua-cam.com/video/29qsUdBLKlk/v-deo.html
I find that a significantly common reason people don't succeed with SIBO treatment is that they don't follow all the way through. If you've had SIBO a long time, or your numbers are very high, you are quite likely to need multiple treatment rounds.
Hang in there, you can do this! AND it is also possible there are other underlying infections as well...but one thing at a time. My best to you.
@@ConfluenceNutrition My Dr prescribed the rifaxamin with metronidazole (flagyl) instead of neomycin. I read an article about the effectiveness of metronidazole in inhibiting archaea growth. But I don't know which protocol is better.

Hi Naomi, I responded to your email :)
Back in the summer of 2020 i remember how I got food poisoning from eating a cheeseburger that looked very sus but not thinking much of it and as result later that day I started having a stomach ache experiencing diarrhea and being gassier than usual so recognizing this wasn’t a normal upset stomach I went City MD which they prescribed me to probiotics and thus I was somewhat relatively Normal until a year later after eating a sandwich I had the worse stomach pain I’ve ever experienced in my life so bad to point I was afraid of eating to which I went to the emergency room and all they did was take blood and do a CT scan and found nothing so they requested I see a gastroenterologist, which the first GI MD I saw only had me take a blood test, a stool kit and a colonoscopy in which a my result were all normal especially in my large intestine, to which I asked the doctor if they could check my small intestine which they said they mostly likely wouldn’t find anything in the small intestine and they diagnosed me with ibs said that my symptoms were mostly due to my diet and stress. Not fully convinced I decided to see another Gi specialist and they had me take a breathalyzer test in which I was diagnosed to have sibo and that I mostly likely would have to take antibiotics to treat it but after seeing some else’s comments in the comments I do worry if I won’t return to normal 😩

I tested positive for SIBO with the hydrogen breath test that was recommended by a Naturopath. Such a relief as I had spent most of my life (over 45 years) being tested in the mainstream medical system for various things and finding nothing, even being told by doctors such things as I was swallowing too much air or that it was in my head. The struggle is REAL ! After a course of special antibiotics followed by probiotics and the SIBO diet I had been symptom free for over 4 years. Unfortunately every time it comes back, it comes back worse. This time I ended up in the ER twice, and still mainstream medicine(where I live) does nothing to help. The long term effects of untreated SIBO for me have been dry skin, hair and nails, hair loss, eczema, anemia, fatigue and asthmatic allergies. I have gotten to the point where I am almost afraid of food because I have no idea what is causing my flareups. Other than this I am very healthy and active and well within my weight and bmi range. I am glad to see more research and information coming to the medical profession as I was quite surprised that a naturopath had information on this when the medical doctors had no idea.
Yay for finding help where previously there was none! The food trigger piece is important, from my perspective, to get some clarity on. Are you working on this currently?

Haven't done any testing or seen a doctor due to the pandemic, in my early 60's.I survived meningitis about 7 years ago or so and have had stomach issues ever since, not much before.I was on 3 antibiotics and anti virus meds by IV for weeks. I've had bouts of stomach problems for years now and have tried many diet changes with little success, until recently. I have pretty normal bowel movements but I've recently been dealing with a huge gas problem. It was mostly belching and bloating, very uncomfortable. A couple months ago I started the keto style diet and had relief with in days, best I felt in years. The gas changed from belching to farting and I got a lot of relief. In the last week or so some of the upper gas has returned and the discomfort. I've been using ACV and kombucha on and off along with bile salts and enzymes. The keto diet made a big difference but it's had to tell if the ACV,K,B or the enzymes helped a lot, I tried introducing them separately but it's hard to tell because the symptoms are a bit up and down.

Hi Indigo, welcome, I'm glad you found me. It definitely sounds like something is going on that needs to be addressed. I have lots of videos that may be helpful for you on my channel...thanks for watching and subbing!
I’m confused. I saw a western GI specialist who told me breath tests are not accurate so they skip straight to antibiotics if a patient has symptoms. So I hired a Functional Medicine doctor to work on it with and he did the Genova GI map to detect SIBO which came back with 5+ strains of bacteria overgrowth.
Hi Erika...there are a lot of different thoughts on this matter, but from my perspective (and of my colleagues, both NDs and MDs) the breath tests are relatively accurate, and I find them pretty reliable and that they often correlate with symptoms. You can skip straight to the antibiotics, but without a pre-test, you can't assess post treatment to see what happened either.
The Genova GI MAP will not test for SIBO, stool testing only tells you what's going on in the large intestine. This bacterial overgrowth you found is in the large intestine, not the small, and SIBO treatment will not address it. It's so important to consider all these details in the larger context, and to be working from the perspective of your personal goals, as well as trying to understand which of these things you're focusing on are the mediators of your symptoms. This is exactly what I help my clients with inside the Calm Digestion Method...because there's so much to keep organized as you move through your process, as well as lots of questions that need addressing that you may not want to pay your ND or FMD hourly for! If you'd like to discuss further, I'd love to connect.

Hello Merkava4IMI, I have the same symptoms. Can you go into detail about the steps you took to get rid of your sibo. Thanks
Hi Amanda! Thanks for the video. I’m just wondering if this means we shouldn’t take digestive enzymes with sibo?
Hi LuckyLuc, in general, no, this info doesn't impact digestive enzymes, just the stomach acid piece. That is, unless you don't respond well to enzymes. Thanks for watching!
I don't believe it because how do you explain all the success stories with acv?
Well, this is the trick about ALLLL the gut research and recommendations: every one of them is a theory, that may be backed up by research. But it won't hold true in every situation. We're all different. This is why I advise people to always bring it back to what's true for YOU. For some people, even with SIBO, ACV helps them feel better. For others it makes them worse. Thanks for watching!
Thanks Amanda
You are very welcome :) ❤
Thanks for the information. Is there a different between the lactose and lactulose breath test? I have tested with a lactose test and the results where positive and the score where very high but today I did a glucose test and the results where negative. What Doese that say? Hope to hear from you
If you truly took a lactose test, this was likely to test for lactose intolerance, whereas a lactulose SIBO test uses lactulose as the bacteria feeding solution to try to provoke SIBO gases (hydrogen and methane). A glucose breath test is the same thing, but uses glucose as the feeding solution. Glucose tests are slightly more accurate for SIBO in research, but apparently, they may more often miss SIBO in the far end of your small intestine. A lactulose breath test could help confirm or deny the presences of SIBO bacteria. Hope that helps!

After passing the offending mass i would settle down in a euphoric state as my natural endorphins where so hight. But not doctor could help. Have you ever heard of such a problem. I still get this but not as bad.
Hi Open Heart, I have heard of high levels of pain with BMs, and certainly have experienced the sweaty nauseous feeling from urgent BMs, though less so the euphoria piece. What happened near the time you got sick? Have you identified a trigger?
@@ConfluenceNutrition no but it still happens but not so intense. And therefore no euphoria. Only thing i could come up with is to much bacteria on the food. So no eating leftovers or food stored in fridge unless cooked just before its consumed. Fresh Butter can do it but cook it in garlic bread no problems. Have been taking betaine hci and iron and B1 for 2 mouths now and have lost 5kg down from 73kg but i have more energy.(but to light for a man). So i am not getting enough out of my food. I Suppose my intestinal track is badly damaged.
@@openheart6113 it sounds like the problem may be histamines...but as always, these musings are a hypothesis, and it's important to test out that theory before going down the rabbit hole of big permanent changes. This is exactly the kind of thing I help my clients with. There are so often unanswered and difficult-to-answer questions about our symptoms and their mediators/triggers, so I spend a lot of time focusing on teaching how to do this.
And even if your gut is "damaged", it can also be repaired, even if slowly over time...
@@ConfluenceNutrition thanks for the hope. I have tried low histamine bactera for my gut. One of my friends did realy well on low histamine bactera pills.. But not so much with me.
@@openheart6113 Probiotics are a whole other topic that can, for some people, require a lot of careful work to bring into your life. And this may be further evidence of histamine intolerance. Sometimes, probiotic supplements have added prebiotics to support the probiotic organisms, but many people with IBS symptoms react to these as well. You can find answers if you know how to look, definitely keep up your faith in a solution!
Thanks Amanda for this interesting new info! I had food poisoning about 10 yrs ago followed by 8 wks of diarrhea. I started to simplify my diet which controlled the diarrhea. Use FODMAP a lot. If it were a true infection I wonder if diet change would help? But I also have a lot of stress which I do believe plays into it. My husband has Parkinson’s 10+ yrs. I’m doing a course of xifaxan now but from this new info it might not be the right med🤷🏻♀️. I did the breath test but they couldn’t get a result…not enough of something, but they’re treating me anyway.TY🙏🏽🙏🏽
Hi Linda, I'm sorry to hear about your husband :( So, the food poisoning infection doesn't really linger, just the toxins from the food poisoning damage the nerves. And yes, the FODMAP or any other diet really won't fix or cure the problem, it's more of a symptom-relief approach so that you can deal with life, WHILE you work on resolving the underlying causes. Even though you didn't get a result on your test, you can still view your experiment with the xifaxin through the lens of, "do i feel better, the same, or worse after treatment?" to guide your next steps. Keep me postedQ

I’m very active male at 26 years old . But 3 months ago i had several problems. Joint pain, weakness, depression .anxiety . Unnormal Discomfort when i ate a lot right below my rib cage in the middle . I haven’t been to the doctor but i have been eating healthy and have felt better but not back to full strength like i use to. I also think it has lowered my iron. Because my pumps in the gym are not as good and i get light headed if i stand up fast sometimes. I hope i can beat sibo naturally. Because i do not have insurance. Im scared to go back to anxiety and depression. Is it possible to beat this naturally . Im very strict with diet
Hi there, it sounds to me like you're letting the cart get a little ahead of the horse...your problem may or may not be SIBO. That said, there are natural treatments, essentially herbal antibiotics, as well as specific diet changes that can help resolve it. They don't work for everyone, but many people do find relief that way, if it's done right. If this is something you're needing help and support with, feel free to book a free discovery call to learn more about how my Calm Digestion Method program can help... confluencenutrition.com/contact. I feel u bro! I was miss diagnosed with chronic gastritis and ibs. Turns out it was sibo. I been down this road trust me and I took it upon my self to do my research and came across this antibiotic called ceftriaxone! It’s used for all types of infections Including intestinal infections. So I took 2 trips to planned parenthood separately and I told them I had a uti. They gave me a total 2 shots containing ceftriaxone with in 2 weeks and let me tell u all my symptoms were gone! I changed my diet and began to workout it’s been 5 years now and I feel great. No more lack of iron b12 depression anxiety suicidal brain fog the list goes on! @@Jaysinner619 That's an amazing testimonial, I've not heard of that antibiotic. Thanks for sharing your experience!
I have a foodmarbel aire2, it registers hydrogen for sorbitol and I have constipation. I don’t seem to be one of the conditions mentioned
Can you expand your question, please, I'm not sure I understand what you're hoping I will comment on...
Yes,I have been tested at least 2-3 times and believe I have the Hydrogen. In fact I’m being treated for it again. I was diagnosed with IBS when I was 18 and found out I had Salmonella in the last 10 years and I found out I have MC colitis in 2015. 😔
Oof, salmonella sounds tough. I hope your current treatment helps you! Thanks so much for watching.
Hi Amanda,
I've been tested positive for methane sibo(even though I have no problem with bloating and constipation, rather the opposite problem) and also found that I have dysbiosis. I'm now starting my protocol with antimicrobials, oregano oil and other things to support this, such as digestive enzymes, prebiotic (guargum), probiotics(boulardii and biome lift with lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium).
According to my protocol I'm supposed to take all these supplements at the same time as the oregano oil but I came across information that some people recommend to take first the anti microbials and then introduce the pro and prebiotics later after few weeks.
I'm a bit confused and don't want to make my problem worse.
What would you suggest, or what way do you usually recommend to do the protocol?
Would appreciate your thoughts.
Hi Pavlina, this is a common question! Unfortunately, there's no one right answer. The nuanced answer is that probiotics frequently make SIBO symptoms worse for many people, and for this reason, Dr. Pimentel, the main US SIBO researcher generally doesn't recommend them. THe guar gum has been shown in studies to improve the outcome of SIBO treatment. So in general, if you were my client, I would encourage you to use the guar gum during treatment, and consider holding off on the probiotics. If you really are interested in them, I would trial them separately, but not during treatment, too many variables at once can muddy the waters. Does that help?
@@ConfluenceNutrition Hi Amanda, thank you for your reply. It's very helpful!
@@pavlinajirankova7382 You're very welcome :)
@@pavlinajirankova7382 There are multiple studies that have shown probiotics can significantly reduce sibo. The problem is that most probiotics are useless and don't work. People with sibo don't have enough good bacteria, so even if you kill off a lot of bad bacteria, you still haven't got enough good bacteria. But getting lots of good bacteria in your gut and feeding them with prebiotics will eventually fight off the bad bacteria.
I didnt really understand why increasing the acid is bad. So only if you have the third type you wouldnt use hcl? But the other ones should be treated with increasing acid?
No, in general, it's now thought that using stomach acid support encourages SIBO and IMO...there's not so much research about the hydrogen sulfide, but it stands to reason it would also be contraindicated. In general, now the thinking is deal with the SIBO and THEN consider stomach acid support, if indicated, or if it clearly shows a benefit when you test it out.
@@ConfluenceNutrition can you lead me to the research on this topic? I have a hard time believing that supporting stomach acid with hcl would be the wrong way to go.
@@Salamaleikum80 at this stage, it's indirect research. Previously, it was thought that PPI use (reducing acid) led to SIBO, but the study Pimentel has referenced in podcast interviews suggests that this actually isn't the case, and he also notes that a significant majority of his SIBO patients reported feeling worse on betaine HCL supplementation... here is the study he worked on, that showed there was no increased risk of SIBO from PPI use: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33534012/ and this one: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27402085/
Final question…. Is SIBO completely curable?
Hi Aayush, I believe that it is, but it may require more beyond simply antibiotics...SIBO usually has it's own root cause, and resolving it requires figuring out what THAT is. I feel pretty well cured. It's been a year since I did any treatment, and I'm doing well.
@@ConfluenceNutrition thanks for words of hope
@@brothercaleb You're very welcome...are you needing support with SIBO treatment?

Hi there! Great video! Ive been tested positive for Ibs and hydrogen sulfide Sibo(through indirect testing). Regarding discovery 5, Ive been prescribed betaine HCL pepsin and cinitapride(a gastropronetic), shall I stop taking them? Thanks a lot!
Without knowing anything about your case, I certainly can't advise you to take or not take anything. Ultimately, to answer this question for yourself, you'll want to ask "do I feel better while using betaine HCL, or worse?" and use that to guide your actions. Thanks for watching!
@@ConfluenceNutrition Thanks a lot for the quick reply. That looks like a tricky question, actually :). Woud you be able to share the study where Dr. Pimentel says that acidic compounds are not recommended? I've looked for it but I haven't found it unfortunately. Thanks again!
@@jorgeluiscastanomartinez-b6550 Hi Jorge, he may have discussed it in this video: ua-cam.com/video/7atCK2wjJvQ/v-deo.html In terms of specific studies, what he and his team found in a study (pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33534012/) was that PPI use (lower stomach acid) was NOT associated with higher rates of SIBO, as was previously thought. And Dr. P. mentioned that he had noticed many of his patients said their SIBO felt better on PPIs, while patients supplementing with betaine HCL generally felt worse.
Great progress but does it not move treatment forward, if the two bacteria are klebsiella ecoli why not just target with pomegranate husk..instead of strong antibiotics..

Hi, please why now docteur pimental don't mention adhesion ,? Can we say now that adhesion isnt the root cause ?
Hi Fouadi, he does mention it at times, and in some cases this is definitely a root cause (it was for my personal case of SIBO), but in the majority of cases, it's triggered by a case of food poisoning. Thanks for watching!

@@fouadiahmed3652 Hi again, I had surgery to remove endometriosis, which caused a lot of injury to my abdomen. I didn't have surgery to remove them, I did something called Clear Passage therapy to help stretch them out. It helped a lot. This may be the mechanism of your symptoms, or it could be something else. The trick is to systematically assess those potential causes so you can find what most helps. Have you been evaluated for bowel obstruction?
What about if I
Just have bloating - I had a bacterial small intestine infection 20 years ago after México food poisoning- it’s come back 2 x - now it’s back - my stool fine just bloated stomach like 6 months pregnant by end of day - no farting - just pregnant belly - what are your thoughts ?
Significant bloating can definitely be a symptom of SIBO, but if your stool is normal, you just may not meet the official IBS criteria. IT sounds like it might be worth running the test in any event.
I did the sibo breath test and it came back with sibo positive. I also did a comprehensive stool test. It came back with dysbiotic Bacteria and it was klebsiella pneumoniae. That's the strain of sibo I'm now trying to kill.
It's important to know that stool bacteria and small intestine bacteria are distinct...but you're right that klebsiella is one of the two main bacteria the Dr. P says are causing SIBO in the small intestine. Thanks for watching!
Who do you go to for a test?
When I'm taking the SIBO test, my ND orders it for me, but I do offer SIBO testing inside my Calm Digestion Method program. I have access to the Commonwealth Labs test. It's a lactulose breath test for hydrogen and methane. You can access the TrioSmart test directly from TrioSmart as a consumer. If you go to their website, they have instructions there on how to do it.
Hmmm interesting. I have methane sibo but high levels of klebsiella. Doesn't really corolate with his findings for me.
Well, if the klebsiella you found are from a stool sample, this means they are in your large intestine, and one of Dr. P's huge findings was that the microbiome of the small intestine and the large intestine are vastly different. So this might be a "yes, and..." situatoin. Yes, you have Klebsiella in your colon, but ALSO have the methane-producing archaea in your small intestine. Hope that helps, and thanks so much for watching!
@@ConfluenceNutrition I just find it weird that I am constipated while having klebsiella. Is it really something that needs treatment? I have read its normally found in stool
@@sharonschauer3257 No, it doesn't necessarily warrant direct treatment... you can think of it like a weed in a garden. If you support the garden environment, weeds can't grow. Rebalancing the gut environment with a diet that suits you, sometimes probiotics, and other digestive supports is one way to go about it. You can also introduce antimicrobials in this situation if tolerated, but that part may not be necessary. I hope that helps.
We did not understand the last point regarding not taking stomach acid supplements so does reducing stomach acid cure sibo
No, reducing stomach acid doesn't cure SIBO, but supplementing stomach acid can make SIBO worse. We all need healthy levels of stomach acid, but the wisdom now is to wait to do so until you are SIBO negative.
im in such a pain. can u recap? i have super constipation. is there any sibo corollation?
Constipation can be correlated with methane sibo...if you think this could be your challenge, I recommend testing! See this video: ua-cam.com/video/ODp4hbedP5M/v-deo.html
What does it mean if you have elevated levels of CdtB only? I did the IBS smart test last month, I had a bad case of food poisoning in Bali the spring of 2020. I was already managing my SIBO from a food poisoning case in 2015. My symptoms are much worse now despite treatments.
I'm no expert at interpreting the IBSCheck test, but if i had to guess, this would suggest your SIBO/IBS is influenced by the toxins, but that the toxins have not triggered the anti-vinculin antibody production, which is good. In theory, this should mean that your SIBO may be a little more treatable than if you also had the antibodies. Thanks for watching!
So does this mean gi map is not effective for diagnosing dysbiosis?
Hi Kiley, no, the GI MAP IS effective at "diagnosing" dysbiosis, but ONLY in the large intestine, which SIBO testing demonstrates dysbiosis in the small intestine. They are different organs wtih a different "normal" microbiome. Does that make sense? Thanks for watching!
I wonder if these anti viniculin antibodies can contribute to gastroperesis?
I suspect that if they're high enough, they could, though there are other possible reasons for gastroparesis as well.
@@ConfluenceNutrition thank you for your response.

Does this mean treatments like Atantril are less effective?
Hi Richard, Atrantil is a herbal formula that primarily helps with bloating symptoms, and to a small extent with methane SIBO. It's not really a treatment or cure, though for a minority of people it does make a big difference. If you truly have IMO (methanogen overgrowth), Atrantil isn't going to resolve the problem, but can be part of the solution. Does that make sense?
@@ConfluenceNutrition Sure it makes sense. Here is a recap of where I was at & what I did. I did have IMO & tested positive twice. I also had higher levels of hydrogen and lower levels of methane in one test & the other was just elevated methane. I’m not sure what eventually cured it.
Treatment & results.
As you know antibiotics have no direct action on archaea but they do attack the hydrogen producers. I did 2 rounds of antibiotics & during the second round I took garlic, oregano oil, atrantil, guar gum fiber, turmeric and a specific probiotic that I can’t recall. I’m sure you know it, I actually stopped taking peppermint thinking it would exacerbate the severe motility issues I was having. I kept this regimen up for a month during and after the #2 course of antibiotics. My symptoms did not get better but I tested negative shortly afterwards & they symptoms have improved. I probably had some inflammation & it took a while for any sense of normalcy to return. I’m certain that quite e bit of damage was done & I did my own regimen without direct supervision which I don’t recommend. I was as careful as I could be especially with the oregano which can burn your GI of taken too much. In any case something worked. I just don’t know what it was.
I got so sick of how it affected me that I was willing to take risks. It’s a very complex disease that is in my opinion not well understood, same goes for the microbiome in general ( again my opinion. I am not a medical professional nor am I a researcher). My only advantage is I am very good at analyzing data and interpreting it. I’m grateful people like you are pressing forward with the research. The ultimate cure won’t come from me that is for certain.
@@ConfluenceNutrition One thing I did do before going on that final regimen is I did test each one individually to determine tolerance. I just did not know I was doing that at the time. I was taking these things to try and get results but it was useful to know how they affected me & felt somewhat confident that I could handle taking all of them. You called this titration in another video. Hope this is an interesting read at least.

Is there any info on kombucha and sibo? I read kombucha has a small amount of acetic acid like ACV but kombucha has a lot of gluconic acid. Should someone with sibo not drink kombucha?
Hi James, great question! Ultimately, this is a case by case situation. Theoretically, that acetic acid, plus the probiotic content, can be aggravating for many with SIBO. But some people tolerate it just fine. As always, the question is, how does your body feel or respond when it's consumed? Thanks so much for watching!

Can mold toxicity cause sibo ?
To my knowledge, no, SIBO is usually triggered by food poisoning or slow gut motility allowing the wrong bugs to grow in the small intestine. But underlying SIBO could make mold toxicity feel worse for you. I hope that helps!
@@ConfluenceNutrition can h pylori or parasites cause sibo ?
@@ItsMichaelBernal Yes, kind of indirectly, if they slow down your gut motility. And since H pylori is in the stomach, which is the top of the GI system, it can impact everything downstream. But it's not a direct cause in most cases.
But............Did they say which antibiotics killed them??
You mean the SIBO bacteria? If so, the rifaximin/neomycin combo is the treatment of choice, or herbal combos of berberine, Allicin, neem, and oregano oil are also researched to be effective. An elemental diet can also be used.
I did a carnivore diet for 6 weeks about 15 years ago. The first day I went back to my normal diet I got really constipated and bloated by even drinking water. All these years later my stomach still grows with everything I eat. I guess eating only meat for a while then going back to a normal diet screwed my system up. I’ve done antibiotics years ago. A few diets. And nothing has worked. I took a stool test very recently and tested for a bunch of overgrown bacteria and a parasite called blasto. I’m assuming I might have methane sibo due to the bloating. Although the constipation is better. I’m taking anti microbials. One is called paratrex, and the other is called pure micro defense and digestive enzymes. With a low fodmap diet. Still no changes. What is a bio film buster? Should I add that? Anything else to try? Like a natural pro kinetic to speed up my gut? I’m tired of being bloated 24/7. I also suspect histamine may be an issue only because I sniffle all the time and no dr can tell me why. Would love any advice!
Hi BeastModeFilms! Your question is a little bit bigger than I can answer in a brief comment here...but I would recommend focusing first on the blasto. A biofilm buster may help with that project. Prokinetics are usually used between rounds of treatment. SIBO may be an issue, but you're right to approach parasites first. It's also possible that the blasto is a "false flag", meaning it may not be the primary thing responsible for your symptoms.
