- Following the anti-lockdown march in London, Peter Hitchens talks to Mike Graham about the lack of coverage by major news organisations. He says "people are told what to think, not how to think".
They also discuss the "green dogma" following the government's policy on climate change.
This exactly what Universities have become. They used to encourage people to think for themselves and have open debate. Now they tell people what to think and any dissent is called "hate speech"
Really ? Mathematics, Engineering, Science, languages,philosophy where is the problem?

the problem is in the end products,fact based subjects are not the ones destroying our youngsters ability to think for themselves,its the non fact based subjects which are doing that and politics,law,teaching,economics and philosophy are all in those ranks .communists know they cannot change fact based subjects which is why they steer clear of them.
@@philipmerewood2298 Science is taught in a politically-correct way also - no dissent on 'climate change' is tolerated, so true science is abandoned when it merges with politics. Also, they pretend men & women are the same in behaviour etc and once again no-one is allowed to question this assertion. They also pretend all races are identical apart from superficial appearance.
Our education system over the last fifty years has been designed to provide compliant non-questioning Sheeple. I was lucky to go to a grammar school 55 years ago where we were taught to think, analyse, challenge, debate and come up with a solution. Sadly now we just produce unthinking robots.

@Gavin Lisle The humanities includes both history, law and philosophy - these subjects absolutely can and do encourage and develop critical thinking. The problem in the education system isn't a case of STEM vs Humanities, it's not what they teach so much as HOW they teach it - simply put, schools have been briefed to create a compliant workforce. It's nothing new, I know plenty of old timers who are unable to think for themselves.

When I was young (many years ago) they told us that electricity would be too cheap to measure and that we wouldn't need meters.

electricity will be 3 times more expensive than gas, by 2030 they will ban boilers and expect you to use heat pumps which cost a lot. The only winners are the companies and the rich while the poor will be forced to move, downsize and for homeowners may be forced to be in forever debt

The problem I have with any Green policies are that they always emerge as a tax.

I was taught to think at school by the teacher who taught me Ancient Greek (he recently died in his 90s; he was an emeritus Professor of Latin at the University of Illinois). I’m now an emeritus Professor of civil engineering at one of the Russell universities in the UK, which only goes to show that, if you can think, you can do whatever you want and succeed.

Forty years ago we closed the coal mines but kept the coal-fired power stations using cheap coal from Poland.
