👋👋 Hey guys, Emily here again. This video has some weird glitches towards the end again... Just wanted to acknowledge it and let you know I'm doing my best to figure it out! We appreciate you guys watching!
I can’t tell you how much I just learned about wiring up the fans on an LS based swap. Very educational and made things so much clearer. When you out the numbers on the relays it a made sense. Oh and I love the banter between y’all. So funny.
very nice. i did the fan install in my 99 suburban. I gotta admit with the hot days lately over here it has been worth it. i never need to use high mode. keep me cool with the ac going cold. Keep up the good work
I was considering putting electric fans in my 2005 2500hd, so it sounds like I might have the wires in the harness already. If not, I now know how to put them in there. Thank you, Jerry and Emily, for a valuable video and for sharing your knowledge. Awesome, and juice is cute, too.
Thanks Stefano! Check out the channel I Do Cars. I believe he did a swap on a 90's Land Cruiser, and might have some info that would be helpful for you. Best of luck on your swap! --Emily and Jerry
Awesome. I've got the LS swap thing pretty much down, done 10 of them with my last '68 C10 but the wiring always holds me up. I don't mind doing it but even simple things like the fans can be a chore and take an inordinate amount of time when done right and I'm talking stand alone not harness work. It's my Achilles heel. You all are the harness kings, I'm learning so much just watching. I was going to use a stock harness on the C10 but I just have to get it running so not this time but I do have a 4.8 with a T5 sitting in the back of my garage looking for a S10. Strictly low buck I'm going to take my time with that one and use a cut down stock harness and using a stock fan is a lot cheaper than picking something aftermarket. I always like developing new skills even at my advanced age, just built my own stainless steel exhaust and my MIG welds didn't come out all that bad with flux core and tri-mix but now it's on to the harness work. I have a half dozen of them, all but one DBC and it's time to get on the horse and work it out. Thanks so much for your video's, I have them archived and will be using them going forward, a lot.
It looks like a big task, but if you take it circuit by circuit, it's definitely doable. Thanks for watching, Ken! We always look forward to your comments. --Jerry and Emily
Yet another very good video. I’m working on another ‘97 Subaru EJ25 into a ‘73 Beetle. The fan relay wiring is so crucial in any vehicle. Running the 3 relay setup in parallel/series this way is rad. Going to give it a try in this project. I know this is LS/OBS swap videos, but the wiring is kind of universal in its application. I’ll eventually find the right truck to do my LS swap…
Thanks Jon! You're exactly right that this is a universal application. As long as you have something to trigger it, this is a great way to set up electric fans on any vehicle. Send us some pics of the Subaru swap sometime! We still have that 72 Super Beetle here. I don't think we can talk him into an engine swap, but it is getting disc brakes soon! Thanks for tuning in, Jon! --Emily
hey there thanks for another amazing and educational video, what brand of crimper and pole dancers is that i tried to pause and read but could not confirm. I love the corn in the beginning
On the larger wires I had done a few of the solders and they looked like they didn't really have enough solder to make a good connection. I do really like the solder ones though on anything smaller than 12awg. Thanks Rowdy. Jerry
I bought that off of a Snap On truck back in the early 90,s, I have found them online. The one that I use has been used and abused and keeps on going. It is a great tool. Thanks. Jerry
Is there a way you can tell what ECU you have by year? You mentioned that the 05 ECU had the ability to regulate the fans but previous years didn’t. Can I guy just look at the part number of an ECU and tell it’s a 20XX model and it’s good to use. I only ask because I ordered my unit online and a year never came up. They did however tell me in messages they turned on fans during programming so I’m assuming they used like an HP tuners program to flash and update accordingly.
You can google the service number that is on the ECM and kind of get an idea of what year it is. It will be a pretty wide range though of what it came from. If your connectors are red and blue, you would be looking at 2002 and earlier. And if your connectors are blue and green you are looking at 2003 and up with the gen 3 motors. Programmers usually just upload a tune that they have on hand, so you might have a computer that is a 2004 for example but it has a tune uploaded in it for whatever year they might have had that tune for. Best thing to do is get to where you can plug a scan tool into it and the scan tool will identify what year, make and model you have for a tune. Jerry
Hey Kevin, we haven't had any issues with that, but we always use new GM Genuine pigtails like the ones in this video. They are 10 gauge and have never let us down. Here's a link! amzn.to/3tuhlZu Thanks for tuning in! --Emily and Jerry
I did the same wiring went over it over and over to make sure I wired in the wires the same way but mines don’t come on. My question is if I run aftermarket universal fans will it still work or does the factory fans something in them that allows them to run at a low speed and a high speed that universal fans don’t have? I’m pretty new to wiring in fans and I’m just trying to finish up a truck build that was abandon it runs and drives just no fans
Hi Daniel, aftermarket fans shouldn't matter. If you're confident all the wiring is correct, I would ground the relays using a jumper wire to make sure they work. It sounds like maybe your ECM isn't programmed to run fans. Let me know a little more about what you're working with for a donor ECM and wiring harness. Thanks for watching! --Jerry and Emily
The motor came out of a 05 Silverado 5.3 and I did see on the computer it the 2 connectors have wires coming out of them and followed them back and found it has a 2 pin connector and I just grabbed power from there? And you say ground the wire if you could help where exactly to I ground it out on the relays?
The connector that comes out of the wiring harness that goes down to the ECM are the wires that ground the high and low relays. Are you using the donor fuse box also from the 05? Jerry
Yes I am same setup as in the video I will double check the ecm ground cable and try it again I know I did the relays right but I will try using a power probe and adding ground and hopefully that’s it. Thank you so much I have been stuck on this for 3 days
Ok. If everything is wired right. You would disconnect the two wire connector that runs the fan and then just connect the relay side of the connector to ground and your fans would start up. That system has 2 40 amp fuses for the fans and 1 ten amp fuse that runs the relays. Make sure those fuses are good also. Jerry
Hey Gus! We did get your email! It's been a crazy couple of weeks, but we'll get it shipped out as soon we we have the new belt for it. I'll send you an email with the tracking number as soon as I have it. --Emily
This is more of a question than a comment. Followed the process to the T. Why is my 10 amp wire turns on fan when the ingition switch is off, But cuts off when turning on ignition?
Donor engine is from 2006 GTO ls2, harness was custom made for my 75 c10. PCM is from a 2002 Chevy truck and fans came from 2001 camaro. Thank you for your reply.
When you had your computer programmed, did you let the programmer know that you were going to run fans from that PCM. The 2002 trucks did not have electric fans and would be something the programmer for that PCM would need to know. Also, did you have to add the wires at the pcm or we're they built in the harness. Jerry
@UglyTruckExperience Hello, thank you for responding. Pin 42 was already running both fans, but I added Pin 33 to harnes to run fans in the same manner you showed in your video. Also would I Nedd to add separate relay apart from the 3 relay set up per your video to run Vintage Air Unit and trinary switch I recently installed to my truck?
Pin 33 on that 2002 ECM went to the AC system to control the recirculating door. You will need to get a hold of the programmer of that ECM and ask if its possible to make pin 33 control the High fan control. If not you will have to get a newer computer. I think pin 33 is a source to ground with key off. Sounds like you have done everything right. The 2002 computer is just not programmed or capable of running fan. If you get the fans going like they should I can't see why you would need to add anything for the Vintage Air. Let me know what happens. Curious about this one. Jerry
I'd like to see you guys do a 88-98 obs. They are a super popular swap and lots of questions on the net. Preferably a 89 since that's what I'm going to be doing😊
@@UglyTruckExperience no problem. I seen your channel being thrown around about a good channel to watch about ls swap wiring on a obs page I follow. Figured I'd pass it along to you guys. Thanks for what you do it definitely helps give the confidence when it comes to wiring.
Hey Guys, Thank you for all the videos. I have used so many to do my swap on a 82 c-10. Quick question my fans are not coming on engine is off a 2006 Tahoe with electric cooling fans. I used the original fusebox/harness which came with the fan relays already wired in. They should come on without needing any wire modification? or is there still wiring that I'm missing? Thank you Vence
On the passenger side fan, the black wire that comes from that motor is the ground. It was originally tied into the core support ground on the passenger side. Would be an easy wire to forget since it is tied into the headlamp wiring bundle also. Without that ground, neither fan would work. Let me know if you have that ground. If not I will keep trying. Jerry

Carefully tho. Because as fast as it cuts the wire loom and tape. It'll lay that Wire in 2 if you just start ripping through it.
