  • 2 YEAR UPDATE: After two years of near daily use, the AC-DC board blew (looks like a mosfet but I'm not inclined to repair it, so I just removed the AC/DC board), so I am now using it with a DC power supply on the battery input.
    Get it here: www.banggood.com/custlink/GDm...
    If you are looking to add a full-featured charger to your setup then look no further. Suitable for any hobby that uses LiPo batteries, I have absolutely loved adding this beast to my toolset and use it every day, across my range of drones, RC cars, general electronics, it's a real swiss army knife.

    Got my own a week ago, screen was dead on arrival but I can hear the machine running and buttons responding.
    Gave it time to run but nothing.
    Haven't had a reply from the store for a few days now since reporting the fault either and their refund period is 30 days.
    I'm hoping to get a reply in the next day or so or I'll have to escalate a claim against the store which I don't want to do.
    But ultimately, I brought this charger for the two GensAce 15000 15A 100c lipos I have coming.. eventually.
    Paid and on a waiting list it seems.

    How about a video on how you made your 2 cell balance board? Hard to tell from video how it is wired.

    As long as you don't accidentally connect something backwards, this is an awesome charger. It has SMD fuses inside which require dismantling the entire unit, and at least intermediate soldering skills to repair. Would have been nice to see reverse polarity protection. Also, FWIW, mine (just purchased) has a red knob.

    • @JasonSuterOssum

      Thanks that's good insight, I have fortunately not tested that yet, I'm super careful with lipo connections but eventually everyone makes a mistake.
      At least it is fused though, a surface mount fuse is still better than trying to repair the thing at a circuit level.

    • @sumdood2035
      @sumdood2035 2 роки тому

      @@JasonSuterOssum yeah, I'm surprised there are fuses at all. Reverse polarity protection would obviously be better. Even my IMAX B6AC has that. It has warned me when plugging something in backwards without frying itself.
      HOTA has alot to offer at it's price point, so I understand compromises have to be made.

      @@sumdood2035 I realized this weekend that there actually is some level of reverse polarity protection, but I don't know what it's limits are (and hope I don't find out). When I am using it in power supply mode to drive my soldering iron, and I turn the supply off, it gives a brief "reverse polarity" warning, so there is something coded there... curious.

      @@JasonSuterOssum That's interesting. I'm wondering where the line is between warning and blown fuse. I'd assume connecting a 5000mah 4s backwards would probably do the trick.

    Very nice explanation of potential charger uses. Charger indeed is not the sexiest thing in our hobby. But hobby can't exist without a good charger. Thanks!
    FYI: Pb battery charging mode is useful for anyone who have a car, bike or some other battery storage with lead-acid batteries. I can charge my car battery with this charger.

      @JasonSuterOssum  2 роки тому

      Thank you! Yes, a good charger is really worth the investment, and it protects your batteries too so it will pay for itself in the end!
      You are right about the Pb mode, I haven't needed it yet, but it's nice to have the option.

      @@JasonSuterOssum @Jason Suter This charger indeed is a Swiss Army knife :) Already figured out that it allow me to charge batteries directly in field. Small charger size is a big plus here. A chance to fly longer with whoops and my GT-349 3" quad (which is awesome for park flying FTW). Plus this is a way how to discharge 6S batteries if my 5" quad accidentally broke (freestyle is harsh sometimes :) ). Laughed so hard about discharging whoop 1S batteries to charge 4S battery :D But... yes - I bought this charger also to discharge unused full whoop batteries to storage voltage. Idea about charger as field DC power supply is awesome too. USB port is handy to charge not only a phone, but also EV800D googles I gave to kid, spectator FPV monitor, my Tango 2 radio (or other radio with USB charging) etc.
      The main argument about purchasing exactly this charger was the largest possible balancing current. Which is important - balancing often take a half and more from total charging time. 2 x 1.6A is one of the best results between known hobby multi-cell battery chargers at today. Only 40 minutes to charge six 4S 1300 mAh batteries in parallel - that is awesome. My old SkyRC D100 did that in 1h 40 min.
      Rarely but sometimes I need to charge my car battery. We have autumn and winter with cold weather and snow here too. During working days I rarely drive large distance. AC + heating still slurp battery a lot. And sometimes car surprise me with empty battery at morning. Possibility to charge car battery with same charger that is used for LiPo charging, is a good chance to avoid purchasing another charger only for lead-acid batteries.
      Noticed that fan is always on when this charger is powered from AC. Not the worst fan noise though, my old SkyRC D100 before fan replacing to quiet fans roared like jet plane on tarmac. But would like to switch the fan off when charger doesn't charge or discharge something. Are it is possible with firmware upgrade. Or I should begin to search quieter fan?

      @@KrotowX Thanks for all of your insights! Yes it really is a swiss-army knife! A great tool to have in the arsenal.
      I haven't seen any options to disable the fan in firmware. Mine hasn't been annoying enough to really investigate further, but if ever do make a change I'll be sure to document it.

      @@JasonSuterOssum Seems that fan is always on during charging. And when charger is on AC power which kinda make sense due to compact AC PSU with high power output inside. I already found and ordered replacement fan (50x50x10mm, 5V DC) which should be quiet enough to avoid waking up my home at night.

      Hey there! Im assuming that you have included a balance lead? In that case I charge similar packs using the LiIon setting, with a charge current of about 1A , depending how much of a rush I'm in, but I'll not push it much over 1C like I might with a lipo.

      @@FPV-ke1ef Sorry I don't really follow this question. Normally the charge voltage for an 18650 is 4.2V.
      I think you should take a look at the datasheet for your batteries, they should define the charge current and voltage, it is safer than me guessing.
