    Absolute value does NOT just remove a negative sign. The absolute value is the distance from zero. for all real numbers, there is no distinction, but the way that it is described in the video does not work for stuff like |1+i| because you can't do anything with the i. For problems with imaginary numbers, you must imagine a plane with real numbers as one axis and imaginary numbers as the other. You then use the distance formula to find the absolute value.

    • @akgamer1825
      @akgamer1825 Рік тому

      @@SS77S7 although you are correct, I'd argue that explaining it as the distance from zero (as my teachers always did) is beneficial since students won't later have to learn a completely different way of thinking about it that gives the same result for all real numbers.

    • @cannotfigureoutaname
      @cannotfigureoutaname 2 роки тому +1

      @@emmanueldestin2353 It depends, in game development for example we mostly use methods from math libraries for most operations, the math operations are not usually directly translated into code like you would write them on paper (the equivalent of |5| in unity environment is Mathf.Abs(5)), they need to control and be controlled by logic, these operations are extensively used in games especially if 3D for stuff like: rendering, physics, AI(pathfinding,detection), if you want to use a custom notation (like 5000000 to 5M) you need to come up with a series of math operations like power and modulo to reduce the number and choose the right string from an array, but even if you use for example premade utility functions you still need to comprehend them to even use them. The more you know the more you can make, especially if the game you're working on has proper physics and, for some reason you hate yourself so much you want to get into Quaternions, definitely not talking by experience.

      Absolute value means distance from origin, no matter the dimension. In one dimensions so numbers, it means distance from 0 on a number line. This means |+1| is 1 since the distance is 1 from 0.

    • @brianfeuerman1732

      Those aren’t 1’s. They are absolute value brackets. |-6| = 6

Btw I am actually from India, idk how u know. I am just 13 years and could do these sums all day long(No showoff, no offense, its ok if are not good at mathematics, you might be good at sports or other things and if u are u shouldn't click on a mathematics video I gues, sorry if it hurts you anyways and I don't know good English so there might be some grammatical mistakes).

      It's absolute value and not parenthesis, absolute value makes everything inside of it a positive number.
