I have been using the tailwind for years and it has been flawless! One thing you didn't mention, if you use an android phone and have bluetooth in your car, you don't need thhe vehicle senser. It works perfectly in my Prius with no vehicle senser and my Samsung phone, also the notification comes on my Samsung watch with no special apps on the watch.
I have both. I got Homelink first but I also wanted something to integrate with my smart home so I got Tailwind as well. The Tailwind is not intended to be the primary auto-close. It is there, in case you forget to close the garage. Using Homelink to close but having Tailwind as a back-up is the best of both worlds. I also found the reverse to be true. With Homelink, even at the longest range I'm always waiting for my garage to open before pulling in, while with Tailwind, it opens exactly when I want. Also, with Tailwind it is connected to my smart home so that when the garage door is automatically opened my door leading in to my house is also automatically unlocked and my home alarm is turned off. For me, it isn't an either/or. Both of them do slightly different things and both work great together!
Great video! Once I went to Tailwind's website and saw that if you have an Android phone you don't need the additional vehicle sensor like the one you needed to put on your main screen in your Model Y (I didn't want to stick anything on my Tesla), and that it works right through my phone, I was sold! I also saved an extra $3 bucks with your discount code. Every little bit helps. I paid 67 bucks rather than $300 for Tesla Homelink. I also like that I will receive notifications when the garage door is open and closed and that I can check and see if the garage door is closed on my app. No more wondering if I closed the garage door when I left. Looking forward to seeing how good it works right through the my android phone app. Thanks for posting this video!
Thank you for a very informative video. Sometimes, I do not always take my iPhone with me. Is it necessary to have both the phone AND the puck in the vehicle at the same time?
Even if I set 250 to close but it will not trigger to close about 1000ft that’s too far and unsave. Also I notice the sensor will not trigger to open if you left the house and come back less than 5 mins
I like the idea but the long distances required bug me. I have homelink and prefer how it begins closing the door before I’m even out of the driveway so I have immediate visual confirmation. Would be cool also if the car sensor could be powered from the accessory port or usb.
Thanks Rat, nice find, got it on my to do list. One question is it possible to click the door closed, my habit is to sit in the driveway n see that it’s closed before driving away, looked like you were out of sight of it before it closed. Keep the video coming.
I just ordered one of these and really enjoyed your thorough review. When you were adding the sensor for the car you skipped over the part in Settings that I was hoping to see. I'm a little confused does Battery Optimization and Background Data Usage need to be enable or disabled on my iPhone? Thanks!
Yes multiple sensors allow this to work in multiple cars. If the door does not auto open you can open in the app too. Also can be added to Home on Apple and you can use Siri.
That is a great question. I believe that they work independently and so they should each open and close the door regardless of where the other sensor is.
My father got this device today and it’s a total piece of trash. I own a 2023 Tesla Model 3 performance and I paid 70k for it. I think I can afford 300 for proper honelink vs this ghetto rigged thing. If you CAN get honelink? Do it.

Tesla’s labor is included with home link 325. I like this for my other cars though.
Tailwind is awesome, regardless of what make/model vehicle you have.

@@RatsTesla but are so far out of sight, someone could run in your garage before it closes and you wouldn't even know. 250 is a long ways away!
Thanks. I am looking for a device like Tailwind. Will order one soon.
Has worked awesome for the last year.

You can also use Siri, Google Assistant, or Alexa voice commands to close it.

They should be enabled.
@@RatsTesla Thank you!
How has this held up?
can this work with multiple cars? just buy more sensors right? so if it doesn't close auto..then how to close? you still need your opener in your car?
Yes multiple sensors allow this to work in multiple cars. If the door does not auto open you can open in the app too. Also can be added to Home on Apple and you can use Siri.
Just another curiosity if I have two sensors in two different cars would garage door open or close if one car home?
That is a great question. I believe that they work independently and so they should each open and close the door regardless of where the other sensor is.
It sucks that I need to buy sensor the pro package doesn’t comes with sensor
I totally agree but this is a much cheaper option and can be expanded to other cars.
@@RatsTesla would you be able to change the distance? I think 250 feet is little too far for garage to open or close
@@dillonle4034 yea the distance is adjustable. 250 feet is perfect for opening because then the door is open when I get there
How do you connect to android devices?
I am not sure. I only have iPhone. Can’t test android. I would search UA-cam.
Thanks for the video, but I think I will just pay the $300
