    Love bucktail and love youtube videos, so was super😊👍🏼
    Just and tip (if you don’t tie with 400den thread😂)
    When you crank down at the maximum tension of what the thread can handle, don’t angle the bobbin tube at the thread. Aim the tube inline with the thread so you don’t the an angle that can cut the thread when cranking down at the maximum tension.
    Keep the videos coming!👌🏼😊

    Excellent stuff there! When I first saw you use that over-sized half hitch tool, I went right to my wood lathe, and within minutes, I had three of them! They're a must, for BIG fly building! I to use UNI Big Fly.

Now I’m happily hooked. I had just came in with more buck tail, and said to myself I need to find more info on using buck tail . Bingo here you are. Thanks so much for informing me on buck tail.

    Hey Brian! I just watched Loons latest video on the flow stone pattern.. with much of your influence I subscribed to their channel and use their products. In the video something caught my attention that drives me nuts.. their bobbin chirps when you pull thread. Much like two styrofoam coolers packed next to each other on a long trip - drives me nuts..any tips or hacks on that?

    • @flyfishingtheozarks
      @flyfishingtheozarks  4 роки тому +1

      I think it is more of a thing with newer bobbins.....mine don't really do it anymore. You 'can' hit them with some dubbing wax though.

    No joke, I received a bucktail from an online retailer that had, what I can only assume was poop. I mean not chunks because I know how they process it doesn't allow for poop to be on it, but I ordered white and lets just say not all of it was white. My bucktail work improved 10 fold after I began hand picking my tails from a store nearby.

    Good stuff bro! Why clear the under fur? What difference does it make if I don't?

    • @flyfishingtheozarks
      @flyfishingtheozarks  4 місяці тому +1

      The under fur is "sharp" and can cut your thread. It also negatively takes away power from your thread making it harder to control how much flare you produce.

    • @hairyfrank9177
      @hairyfrank9177 4 місяці тому

      @flyfishingtheozarks Cool man thanks! I'm totally new at this with nobody else in my life that's into it to learn from or learn with, and the closest fly shop is in another state, I appreciate the content.
      While you're here, if you don't mind, could I use "craft fur" found at Hobby Lobby and all that?
      I'm trying to get into tying some bass jigs and this stuff can get expensive real quick, plus I have no idea what I need so end up having to make multiple separate purchases as I learn.

    • @flyfishingtheozarks
      @flyfishingtheozarks  4 місяці тому +1

      @hairyfrank9177 You will soon find out the "multiple purchases" thing won't stop 😆 Most of the craft fur in hobby stores has pretty short fibers. But, give it a shot....there are very few rules in fly tying, that's the beauty of it.

    • @hairyfrank9177
      @hairyfrank9177 4 місяці тому

      @flyfishingtheozarks I can dig it bro, I'll experiment haha.
      Any recommendations for bass patterns? I watched your tips vid and said to basically stick with one or two patterns to build skill - but I don't know anybtonbegin with and I want to tie them all.
      What is the senko of fly tying? The bass fly that pretty much never gets old to the bass?

    • @flyfishingtheozarks
      @flyfishingtheozarks  4 місяці тому +1

      @hairyfrank9177 The Wooly Bugger has probably caught more fish than any one fly in the world.....and is a GREAT beginner fly to learn.

    Brian, what are the other two materials in your top 3?

    • @flyfishingtheozarks
      @flyfishingtheozarks  3 роки тому +1

      Probably Craft Fur, Schlappen, and Polar Chenille......oh, wait-- thats 3. 🙂

    • @kylebrunson8765
      @kylebrunson8765 3 роки тому

      +1 on the polar chenille. I would add rabbit strips and bucktail to round out my top 3. I’ve been tying for about 8 yrs and never once used craft fur, so I need to get on that soon!
