  • Most fly tying materials come in a single color while in the package. Mixing colors and textures can give a more realistic, and fun look to your flies. In this video we mix bucktail, marabou, and Schlappen.

So I guess if you mixed white bucktail and lime green bucktail you could call the fly a Gin & Tonic?? Maybe if you use mint green and white you could call it a Mint Julep. Sharing this technique might save my marriage if I don't have to buy more tying materials! Thanks Brian. Keep the good stuff coming.

    Damnit Brian !
Just my rotten luck ! God how I wished I would have ran into you when we lived in the Ozarks ! (south of Springfield)
I'm a logger and now have moved back to The Black Hills of S.Dakota a few years back to stay and I get to fly fish as often as I like now because we own our own Logging Business here. I always ran into guys at Taneycomo and the White River, Roaring River and up north of Lebanon but never anyone my age. Most guys were either old crotchety GET OF MY LAWN types or guys that were Doctors or Lawyers or CEO's of some big ass company that had more money in their fishing glasses than I had in all my gear combined....I'm sure you have run into plenty of both yourself.
Opening Day of season like at Roaring River or the Springs up north of Lebanon are a sight to behold and not for the weak or meek....I used to have a T shirt that said "I SURVIVED OPENING DAY OF TROUT SEASON AT ROARING RIVER.....WHERE THE WEAK ARE EATEN!"...
That I bought at some little hole in the wall convenience store down by Kimberling City at a Bait Shop by the lake...
I sure miss the White River though super fishing in the right time of season. Still my Personal Best Rainbow and Brown came out of that river. But up here we have Native Brookies and Browns and Bows plus the hybrids like Tigers (lake Trout x Brook Trout cross hybrids) that are fast growing and super aggressive so it's just nice being back within easy driving distance of just about any Trout Fishing a true man of the fly could want or hope for. Were headed to fish a bunch of spots in Wyoming this spring and then this next Fall are headed to Northern Idaho for some Steelhead and Cutthroat Action for Vacation time this year.
My Wife is my fishing buddy and still learning how to fly fish (she is a die hard spinning rod Fisherman and Deep water Laker Trolling gal ....which is totally my fault by the the way honestly she just loves to fish period lol)
Man Like I said I sure as hell wish you and I woulda met up when we lived in the Ozarks.....but oh well you keep putting out videos and we will keep watching and who knows we might bump into one another someday yet ?

Great video as always! Is there a reason why you don't stretch the pacchiarini-tails? The one in front of you appears to be quite stiff. Stretching makes them so much softer! By the way, Pacchiarini is an Italian name, I think. So it's Pac-i-arini. The "h" after the "c" indicates that it's a "k" sound like in "o-k-ay".

I definitely stretch the tails. The bigger, "paddle tails" tend to be on the stiffer side.
