@@ChrisGardnerYT I believe the finish is called Rubbed Vintage Satin or something... Really love the satin feel of the neck and the way the stain wears off...
Actually, they are binding decals from inlaystickers.com. I had them on my neck as well, but they started coming off and the neck was sticky. So I took them off. But the binding on my body is the same ones. They don’t last forever, but they have lasted about 4 or 5 years with slight peeling. Idk if you could do a clear coat as I have never done it. But for my body and neck with leftovers, I think it was $30.
Nice video update Chris. I have one in Cherry and very pleased with it. Did you buff/shine the top? My top has a matte finish. If you did buff/shine the top, what did you do? Thanks.
Chris, What do you prefer: LPJ or Studio? And Why? And what your difference abour Standards? Thankss for Video, I have LPJ, but I have not idea about Studio....
Personally, I prefer the LPJ over the Studio. I really like the ‘61 Burstbuckers. Though Studios are fantastic guitars. In regards to Standards, it depends. I really liked the 2017 Blueberry burst Standard and the Slash Anaconda Burst Standard. I played the original Slash Anaconda before the current run, and it was the best Les Paul I played.
i bought an LPJ new in 2014 because i wanted a Les Paul but not for Les Paul money. At first, I didn't care for it much and i got back into playing guitar and restrung it and now i cant put it down. i really like the guitar. my only complaint, because its a lefty they put the pots in backwards so i have to roll inward to get more volume instead of rolling out counter clockwise.
@@ChrisGardnerYT oh no worries, its a lefty so i understand how the mistake was made. im actually looking into a new wiring hardness and putting a Planet Tone Pasadena 1978 pickup in there instead of the T498.
@@ChrisGardnerYT it's a 2013 that I bought in May of 2014 and oddly enough when I was walking into sam Ash I literally passed George Lynch as he was walking out and I didn't recognize him and the sales guy at sam ash was like hey, did you know that was George Lynch? That's the whole story about picking up my guitar that day.
I would say it is around 8 pounds. It’s definitely lighter than most newer standards and even customs. It’s not as light as a Strat, SG, or Lee Paul Special. I recommend you playing it in person if you can. You also can get a wide strap that helps alleviate the weight distribution.
Yeah I can understand that. It depends for me. If it is a nice standard, then I like having the binding. There is one thing that I prefer most on Les Pauls: no pickguards. I have never liked them, and they look better to me because the pickguard covers up a lot of the beauty of the guitar.
Absolutely. Two more things I don’t like on Les Pauls, at least singlecut, are P90s and gold finishes. I have never really cared for either. Though I did like the dual P90s on the 2019 Les Paul Special Doublecut.
Yeah I am pretty surprised at how that little amp sounds. I may get the little Bods Katana mini one day. But before I do that, I would want the 50 watt.
@@ChrisGardnerYT I have a 50 watt Boss Katana. It's awesome! You can get about any tone out of it that you want it you download the patches. By the way, because of your video, I bought a 2013 Gibson LPJ on Ebay last week and I love it. It's a great guitar for the money!!! 😁
excellent video! I saw your first video about the LPJ, I got a cherri color, I really like how it sounds, it strikes me that the neck is 50s rounded and yours seems bigger than mine, what gauge of strings do you use? ? greetings from Argentina.
Nice! Are you walking about the neck profile itself or the guitar? Right now, I am using 10s-52s. I like having the option to drop tune it. Right now, it is in drop C# for Van Halen.
I do not have any experience with that amp. I personally would keep the LPJ, especially since it is in a more unique color, and save up for the amp. You will then have both!
I think those guitars were a great deal. They only made them for two years, and both Versions had maple necks. Ohh yeah, and 9 hole relief as opposed to modern relief.
Love mine too, bought one the moment they came out and it's been my main guitar since. Paired with a Marshall it's a beast of a guitar...
Very nice! What finish do you have? One day I want a Marshall stack. I think my next amp will be the Boss Katana.
@@ChrisGardnerYT I believe the finish is called Rubbed Vintage Satin or something... Really love the satin feel of the neck and the way the stain wears off...
Oh nice! I wanted the chocolate one, but I fell in love with my Fireburst. I wish Gibson did not discontinue them after the 2015 LPM.
I, myself, have a 2013 Gibson LPJ and a 2014 Gibson SGJ along with 2 Gibson Melody Makers
I have the same guitar and I really love it! I’ve been curious about those binding decals, do they stay on permanently? Could you clear coat over it?

2024 and I'm looking for a cherry lpj...
Good luck on the hunt! I have noticed that the asking prices on reverb are higher than normal. Any luck with Guitarcenter?
@@ChrisGardnerYT I'm in the UK, making my hunt even harder...
Hi i have one i could sell you. Im located in Denmark.

I have not done anything to it. It is just played. I have had it since 2015. The only thing that could do it would be the polish I use to clean it.

Oh I’m sorry that they did that. I recommend you taking it to a guitar tech to have it rewired.

Are you sure it’s a 2014? Because the 2014 LPJs came with the ‘61 Burstbucker Zebras. The 2013 model came with the 490R and 498T pups.

I just found a deal near me, but I just wanted to know, it is heavy? That's very important to me because of back pain issues

I think I prefer the les paul’s without the binding on the neck and high gloss finish...nice review.
