Your gasket on the oil pan reminds me of the same one on a old 1950 Dodge flathead 6cyl. They come in cork for the flathead or rubber. The trick to them though is not to cut the ends yet to leave those ends and once you tighten the pan up they squeeze right into place. Thanks for sharing the 318 video. I think he suspects it, but from the amount of water getting into the crankcase on his I am betting on a hole rotted through the cover behind the water pump. Chad is taking a sabbatical from the Internet....I wish he would come back :-(
Got to replace my timing chain on my Plymouth Satellite, 318. Only will not be out of car....chain making a chattering noise lately. Looks like your engine was originally orange, like mine.
Isn't this the same issue Retrochad has on that old cold forgotten Savoy? I don't know what is the deal with gaskets quality lately. Ive never been a fan of rubber gaskets anyways, but in that situation I guess rubber is the only thing they can use.
what kinda oil do i put in one of em 318 engines and oil filter can i use a ph43 or ph8a ..i would like to use the ph43 cause its shorter and easier to install the dag thing
i use whatever oil I prefer with some zddp additive. The usage of the short filter is dictated by the standpipe in the middle of the mount. I think that isn't an issue with a v8 though.

I always wished Chevy was smart enough to mate the timing chain cover to the oil pan in a smart way, like this small block Mopar.

Yes, it's a '70 model but was in a 1969 Swinger made up to mimic a 340. The 340 heads and manifolds are still on it.
