DP/30: It's Only The End of The World, Xavier Dolan
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 гру 2016
- He has been one of most celebrated young voices in cinema in recent years, winning critics and audiences over with his intense emotional characters. Perhaps the height of this was Mommy, his 4th film at Cannes, for which he won a jury prize in the main competition. But this year, his newest film, It's Only The End of The World, got roughed up at Cannes and is still without US distribution (though it was short-listed for Oscar Foreign Language). Dolan sits with David Poland and discusses his work, his passion, and his frustrations.
Shot in Los Angeles, December 2016

He´s so inteligent, so natural, so brilant! He´s 100% emotion and that is so beautiful!!! I love him!
As a person who wants to work in film, I admire Dolan so much. He's so breathtakingly talented and is so sure of his style and who he is as a filmmaker. Thank you for sharing this interview!
He's not a kid at all, he's a smart young man, who's got a original style.
wow xavier is probably my favorite director of all time, this is great.
¬¬
me too, and he did a movie that changed my life.
Mommy (2014)
@@Historyrhymezz it changed my life as well
one of the most talented young directors out there. Mommy is a masterpiece
Laurence annywheres is a masterpiece
Xavier's movies have always touched me in different ways and that's why he's my favorite director
I can't believe you have an interview with him merci omg
I appreciate Dolan not only for his respect for Marion Cotillard in this film, but also because he defends her
characterization as being exactly what he wanted. She got much unsolicited and wrong criticism for her
work in this movie at Cannes 2016, as if she (not the character) was having a nervous breakdown. Even
VANITY FAIR got off the path on this issue. Christopher Nolan should have defended Cotillard over the
"death scene" in that stupid BATMAN movie (it was his decision which take to use) but he never said
anything and just left her to take the heat. Thanks for your loyalty, M. Dolan.
Word. ❤
I loved Marion in that film! Let's all forget the critics.
I also thought she was brilliant!
Too young to be weak and too struggling to be not scared...that's my feeling about one of my favorite director Dolan and I hope you can stay who you are and just be honest with all your emotion and ideas as always!
I know im five years late, but this is so far the best english speaking interview i have ever watched where the interviewer actually asks smart questions and manages to get him to open up in such humane and tender way (cuz there's always, you know, people telling him how of a genius he is and "admirng" his way of survivng the critics that seem to get more harsh each time). but you hardly hear him talk about how all that really affects him, and how he digests all that criticism to "milk" the good stuff out of it. He isn't my favorite director, tho Mommy and M&M really touched deep parts inside of me like almost no other film i've ever watched, but what i truly love about him is the way he transmits and speaks about himself, his art, his ideas and ultimately, the advice he gives to the new talent. Every time he speaks, he almost makes me feel like looking up to him
One of your best interviews, love the chilled out vibe.
I'm young, but I'm not a kid *color* *color*
To be fair, coloring randomly is like swingsets. They're fun at any age.
That isn't coloring. It's illustration.
51 minutes yess I've been hoping you'd interview him!!!
Ahhh i love your channel!! I feel like I'm being served a well-balanced full course meal when I'm watching your interviews. Never stop making them please!!
He comes off way more down to earth in this than anywhere else
he is so good at manouvering emotions in his films. don't need roalercosters when one has Xavier Dolan!
FUCK YEAH!!! FUCK YEAAAAAH!! FUCK YEAAAH 2 worlds colliding. I fucking love him. Thank you for such a long interview.
This was one of your best interviews. Great job.
Thanks for this long interview! This is realling interresting to get to know him better. I love the way he express his feelings. Now, I know that the film isn't available in the US, and I really don't understand why. As regards of the Oscars, this is unbelievable. I'm glad to had the possibility to watch it here, in France, with Xavier in the theater :)
thank you for this amazing interview!
Tom at the Farm is great. Own that one. Acting, directing.....So good.
I think exactly the same! I watched it six time :)
Needed a sex scene
I watched many of his movies but not the last one yet. Love his works!
I love him. Of course as a filmmaker but I think even more as a person. What comes across through interviews touches me and I just want to spend some time with him :)
Thanks for sharing.
great interview, bro!
painting and drawing and doing an interview, that was funny
I get him so well
Interesting as usual. Lots of stuff to chew on here. Would like a bit more stuff on how he works and the work in general, although the personal stuff is fascinating, it tends to get a little repetitive after a while.
Gorgeous 😍. Also a very deep interview. Feel like he bared his soul to a degree
It's sad that this film won't be getting the proper distribution in the US. His next film was shot on 65mm, or so I believe (IMDB). And, as you said, an English speaking cast. Should be interesting.
Won the Cesar this year for Best Director -- for this film.
Also won the Grand Prix at Cannes after all the hammering
by the press.
woooah yes im glad this one is longer than normal
Mommy is one my favourite films and It's Only The End of The World is really great too
I've been waiting so long to see the film but I'm in the states :(
no creo que logre una nominacion pero sera bueno verlo en los oscars como premio de consolacion
that zoom in his nose, the first seconds, was amazing lol
Around 49:00
Why did he say he doesn't think it can / will be shown in US?
Is it being restricted or?
Does anyone have any information about this?
That Guy speaks the words that i would say if i was a filmmaker (when i'll be?). Role model.
_R.I.P. Garpard Olliel...died at age 37 due to skiing accident. January 2022._
SPOILERSSSSSSSSSSSS: This movie is really great. The tension was really high with simple dialogue and good camera work. It's hard to find a Dolan piece without the subject of homosexuality and/or incest in it. Am I the only one who see's the straight signs of incest in this piece? Even Suzanne telling antoine he's "pretty" when he smiles at the last 20 minutes...
Edit: I hadn't finished it :(
Tom at the farm wasn't released in the states until 2 years after
"I'm not a kid" while a draws without looking at David Poland...
who is the director mentioned 26:49
the argument he makes about 9:33 mins in - is so valid and also representative of church, mostly black churches where you are told the histrionics have to come before the blessings and yes sometimes that is true, but to make that the rule for the change is somewhat superficial, and mostly false. thank you Xavier for bringing that point up about acting.
it's only the end of the world is exceptionally good
OMG, he will be nominated for best director next year, at the Oscar
for It's Only the End of the World? No chance, even though I really liked the movie.
No, for his next project: The Death and Life of John F Donovan (with Jessica Chastain, Kit Harington, Nathalie Portman, Kathy Bates and Susan Sarandon). It will come out next fall!!
Peter Gallagher just hope man he is really talented. (fingers crossed)
Peter Gallagher and if he wins he would be the youngest winner at 27
+Peter Gallagher I hope he isn't nominated for the Academy Awards because being nominated will most likely bring out the haters of his style of filmmaking. Already Dolan has been quoted as saying that shooting on "The Life and Death of John F. Donovan has been delayed because he was exhausted by the negative reaction many had at Cannes to "Juste La Fin Du Monde". Variety and the Hollywood Reporter were both unkind towards the film and are probably preparing to do another hatchet job on his work.
fuck yeah!
It's only the end of the world in my opinion is his best .
i need subtitles 🙋
I loved this movie
she's really young but a gr8 director
I can see why some people think he's narcissistic. Maybe I should check out the video where he responded to that comment, lol.
I think he have a stutter right?
Who are they talking about at 26:43?
Manoel de Oliveira
lmao he got so mad at the end
Michael Garmonsway why did he get mad, I didnt catch it
It's Only the End of the World
that's it !
that's the comment !!!
Why do actors all want to take on roles they are afraid of?
Crazy that he hardly has a québécois accent.
He literally speaks extensively in this video that he went to school for years to learn how to speak perfect English.
