I'm an artist and like streaming my process, I've gained more followers on twitch than on UA-cam, but I don't get as many viewers on twitch anymore. I've tried streaming on UA-cam but there's really no category for art unless you are educational. I'm definitely not at that point in my skill to start teaching people how I draw. Hey Elijay, my YT channel that created mainly for streaming (as a VTuber) just got monetized yesterday, and it's all thanks to your kind advices. I remember watching your Twitch guides back in the initial stage of my channel 5 months ago; however, I watch them because I want to implement them to my streaming strategy on YT, not Twitch. I NEVER EVER will think Twitch is Superior in Streaming than YT is, not only because its discorverability is painful but Twitch is so limited when comes to content creation. You van only do a livestream there, and your vods got deleted forever when time passes. With that said, now I'm a happy YT partner! 1000 Subs and 4000 Hrs are surely harder to get compared to just 50 follwers and 3 avg viewers, but I'd say with some planing and dedication you will get there, and it will worth your patience. I'm a living proof here as I got monetized within 200 days of streaming here. Please keep publishing great streaming tips and tricks like this, I really enjoy learning from you.
Great information here! I had my first UA-cam stream last week and had like the same amount of people as I have on Twitch! New people coming in and saying they found my Short and clicked in! Really eye opening for sure and interesting to see how it worked!
First, thanks so much! Your videos have helped me a lot in terms of stream related equipment and information. I tried streaming on and off Twitch for a year to two, and I was semi-regular but I won't say I did everything people recommend but I really did not get much growth on there in general when I tried really hard. Averaging 3-4 people a stream at best (some being friends) and trying to be creative at what I'm playing to get clicked on more - BUT in a month of doing UA-cam Videos I surpassed my followers on twitch (112) and recently hit 1k after doing YT for 3.5 months. I did my first live stream on YT last Friday and averaged 17 viewers! It's honestly insane. I agree with others: A video about how to go live on YT with best tags or info, etc would be AMAZING! Thanks for all you do. 👍🏻
I’m a newer streamer that doesn’t have a whole lot of knowledge about technology. After searching through discords and redit pages looking for tips and help, I finally came across your UA-cam. Definitely helped me shape my account thus far and I’m happy to say I’m only a few follows away from making affiliate. Huge thank you my man!
This is very informative. I think people just want Twitch to be better because they're used to it and don't want to change what their used to, but it has a lot of glaring flaws that UA-cam seems to have already addressed in their own platform. Both platforms aren't perfect though, so it's good that we have both to compete with each other. Competition is the driving force that fixes problems or makes improvements.
Yeaaaaaaah stream scheduling! My resolution this year has been to do my art streams on my UA-cam channel, and god but I LOVE having a scheduled stream all set up and ready to go. I know I've loved it as a viewer, where the content creators I like will announce their scheduled stream and I can set a reminder or otherwise camp out early. The UA-cam streaming experience on the technical end has been lovely, more of the VTuber tools that I like are becoming available on UA-cam, and otherwise it's a GREAT time to pivot some of your stream plans here. I still do gaming/hangout/less structured things over on Twitch... but *that's* been going better too, because my art focus this year has been drawing more attention to my other stuff! Another benefit I've seen argued about UA-cam streams is that if you structure your stream length and topic to be potentially rewatchable, you can get people who actually want to sit and check out your VOD. I'll have to see how that pans out personally, but it's an approach I'm taking and I know creator acquaintances who've had some success with that.
Thanks for this video! I’ve been debating trying to stream on UA-cam because there doesn’t appear to be many people watching streams of the game I’ve been playing. But shorts seem to prove that there is an audience, so it couldn’t hurt to try!
Thanks for making this! It’s interesting, logically anyone who wants to grow would want to streamline the process of moving from one form of content to another, it seems like switching from streaming on twitch from UA-cam is guaranteed to see more newcomers hopping over from shorts, really a no-brainer. In fact, one could argue now would be a great time to try it out while the streaming side of UA-cam isn’t as saturated 🤔
The one thing I did that helped me grow fastest on Twitch was make my gaming handles my twitch channel. Dead By Daylight, World of Warships, and Red Dead Redemption Online all had my twitch channel as my name so people sought me out after games to say "gg" or "u suk, get gud". After switching to Restream and streaming on both Twitch AND UA-cam, I find that my Twitch still grows like that, but my UA-cam channel grows because people are looking for livestreams on UA-cam and they see me there and think, "Art deco, handlebar mustache, AND games I like? I'll check that out." The youtube side grows FAR more organically.
Channel points. FFS. I've only recently started streaming - and I've done so on UA-cam. I wish they'd implement channel points so I can do some fun interactive redeems. That's the biggest missing item in my beginner's opinion.
Hey Eljay!! Thank you so much for making this video! I 100% agree with you and I've been explaining a lot of the same things to people who are just absolutely convinced that Twitch is the be-all, end-all place for streaming. I moved to UA-cam in September of 2021 and everyone thought I was insane, but I saw this coming a long time ago. Even as a small streamer, it frustrates me as well because people aren't really doing any research and don't even consider any other possibility other than Twitch, then stream and stream and complain they don't grow. One of the big things you mentioned in the video that I'm a huge proponent of is explaining how UA-cam is NOT bad for livestream discoverability, it just works differently. It's not just random browsing like it is on Twitch, it works as a search engine. But just because it doesn't work the same way as Twitch, people are automatically assuming the discoverability is bad. I hope you do great on UA-cam! I've been loving it so far!
I'm glad you brought up the Minecraft problem on youtube. That entire category of streams is a nightmare. I've been on the fence about starting up UA-cam streaming fully but I think this video is pushing me over the edge on it.
Genuinely the most REAL “best ways to grow” channel out there, I’ve learnt so much since finding your channel and your Pokemon channel, it’s really been a motivation, really changed the way I look at content creation, I want to personally thank you ❤️
UA-cam certainly has been improving their livestreaming service quite quickly as of late. I would still prefer to stick to twich currently however - for one reason: the community feel. UA-cam can't easily replicate that kinda community "vibe" that twitch has with subs and bits, and I rely on those to interact nicely with my viewers. Sure, a bot could add channel points and other stuff, but it's quite limited in what it can do in terms of visuals, since it's text-based only. Once youtube adds stuff like channel points, I think I'd make the jump across. The linking with existing content is quite important to me, as I prefer to have a single location for all my content - which is also why I have a linktree - single location for all my socials. Still, I'm kinda worried about the fact that youtube is a monopoly and there is nothing else to rival it. I really hope someday another platform will come out and rival youtube so it'll force them to keep improving. (specifically, policy/strikes/demonetization/copyright wise.)
That community feel people talk about isn’t actually a helpful concept. I talked about it a few videos ago, it’s too niche and hard for new users to join, and learn that culture. Same as TikTok. UA-cam culture is easier to understand, and if you are a good creator you build your own community culture. The community take is the same as the one in this video, based on logic that actually hurts itself. Same with channel points, if the only reason you’re growing is because of points, then you’re going to hit a massive wall because those don’t scale as your average viewers scale. Also I wouldn’t consider policy strikes and demonetisation or copyright as reasons, since Twitch is just as bad when it comes to bans, with the added joy of inconsistent choices and refusal to engage or communicate because they don’t have the staff to reply like UA-cam does.
@@StreamScheme That's fair. I mean, my goal isn't to grow in the first place, I'm quite happy with my consistent 5 or so viewers. I stream mainly for interaction and to have fun, so the channel point thing not scaling with viewers is fine to me. I do get the idea that it's a bit niche for people to get into, but still having those things as options would be nice imo. Granted, my opinion might be very skewed because I've got limited exposure to twitch's culture myself, since I just press "go live" and start messing around.
I will say, I originally streamed on Twitch for a year and a half off and on. I started making videos more seriously and got a few videos that did really well on UA-cam so i switch to UA-cam streaming for about 3 months. I got 15-20 viewers on average for a month or so but when those videos that were doing well stopped getting views it really fell off. I just felt it was hard to keep an audience when there are limited 3rd party tools for streamers for viewer engagement on UA-cam. Because when I'm playing a game I can't always be entertaining chat with my person I have to rely on the gameplay and sometimes the gameplay isn't enough. I try my best to be animated all the time but that can be exhausting. Another con of youtube gaming is the community/audience (at the least for the game that I play) all the kids that came through my stream were just asking to play with me constantly versus when I went back to Twitch i would have actual conversations with people and they had fun with all the third party tools that I have for the stream. It just felt better and more comfortable on Twitch. There pros and cons to both. I think UA-cam is great for discoverability but as for streaming tools it sucks. Also downloading a VOD in true 1080p quality is a nightmare versus Twitch you can download the VOD in 1080p without any quality loss. Clips is also easier on Twitch. I was able to capture every moment very easily and my content was better on UA-cam because of it. I looked and looked for better streaming tools for UA-cam but I found it difficult along with getting my VODs, if there is a solution to these I would love a video on that. In the time being Twitch is a better streaming experience for streamers and viewers. I know this video is about discoverability so i kind of got off topic. I agree with what you said but i don't think we should discredit Twitch too much at least for the time being because there might be small content creators that might make a switch that might actually hurt them if they don't know what they are doing. Anyway, I'm just rambling, but this is the perspective of a small content creator.
Im telling you people, DO NOT sleep on UA-cam and the power it has. Don't wait to jump to UA-cam streaming. Do it NOW, build that audience NOW, and just enjoy the process / journey.
Amazing video. As much as I like the category system, what you mentioned makes so much sense. People are so used to the Twitch UI, so they want the same for UA-cam. UA-cam just has way more to offer than Twitch as it is not solely a platform to stream on. That being said, I still like streaming on Twitch due to its features, but I am excited to see what UA-cam brings to live streaming.
This is such good information, I might actually try UA-cam live now. I had a question if anyone is willing to answer. When Eljay says he studied the algorithm for UA-cam shorts, I get what that means but I'm not really sure how to do it. How do you analyze in a way that actually helps you grow? Do you just mimic the thumbnails and titles you see?
No, it has an entire algo, BMIX. I’ve got a video coming soon on the exact lengths and retention rates. How to set your titles and tags. Saying it doesn’t have one, and blaming luck with hit and miss is just excuses to not succeeding.
This might have convinced me to come to UA-cam for all the streams. Honestly that LIVE filter for the search is kind of huge. I wasn't aware of using that. Thanks for the info!
IDK if you have made one already, but a video to small streamers that run CONSTANT ads on their stream I feel needs to be made if not already. I don't know about everyone else but when tuning into a new small channel, I will leave immediately when getting more ads than gameplay. I feel this is a major mistake a lot of small streamers make.
I multistreamed Minecraft on Twitch and UA-cam for all of 2022. People actually found me and started watching on UA-cam while no one found me on Twitch. However, Twitch can be great if you're not streaming a super saturated game like Minecraft. But UA-cam's discoverability is, by far, better... as in... there is actual discoverability on UA-cam.
I have a question should I do twitch streams or UA-cam streams I have a 1.3 average viewer ratio on twitch and 148 subscribers on UA-cam IM SO CONFUSED
Honestly, all of this is why I have considered if youtube is truly the better option, especially after Twitch rolled back the preview window of streams. The only downside is, I can't find something equivalent to channel points on youtube. I just love the viewer interaction you can get from it, but with that being said, I wouldn't be surprised if youtube just needs some time. If the demand is there then youtube have a tendency (for the most part) to actually listen... Unlike some other streaming platform. I'm still mad about the preview window being removed.
I've been multi-streaming on UA-cam, Twitch and Facebook for a little while - whilst also making regular long-form videos and Shorts. I was already growing on UA-cam thanks to the videos, but it's evident how those things work together in an eco system if you plan your content right - whilst my only motive for still streaming to Twitch these days is so I don't completely lose touch with followers who will pop in every now and then. As for Facebook, that's still mostly experimental. Some features and the way the pages work (plus now Facebook Reels like Instagram Reels) are interesting, but also the meta business suite is three broken, unintuitive UIs duct taped together to make something vaguely functional on occasion.
I think the people saying “UA-cam needs a discovery” is because they don’t want to edit videos and just stream exclusively and if you just stream exclusively, I don’t think you’ll get anywhere on UA-cam at all. At least not from what I’ve seen.
I agree to an extent, but also I've seen Streaming be the most discoverable thing some have done on UA-cam, that flowed into their videos and shorts. It's a platform that lets you automatically connect your formats together, and the one your best at lifts the others.
is the LIVE highlight on shorts a mobile only thing? just checked a short on a streamer who is live and didn't see anything indicating the youtuber was streaming (and i'm listening to the stream as i type this)
You help alot of people with your content. I have very slowly improved but that's on me, your tips are what helped me be more creative with my content and I thank you.
I don't think that UA-cam won't beat Twitch, honestly I preferred streaming to it, but unfortunately in my country we have 1 UA-cam ingest server and it is overloaded when many of us can stream causing us to be forced onto servers we get bad connections too. I really wish it wasn't the case though...
Love the video quite a bit i actually think i'm going to start streaming on twitch i just need to find a way to make clips in an efficent way. Since there isn't a clip feature on YT tmk, please correct me if I am wrong.
Tbh, my main issue is that it require so much fucking effort to be even a 2 digit streamer now a day. Do this, do that, do these, so and so. Like dude, I just finished working a 12h shift, every 2 or so days I'm working on my cars or racing, than when I want to go live I just want to go live and game while chatting to peoples, I don't want to do another job after working my ass off the entire time, gaming live should just be a relaxing thing. The only way I found to even do that is being one of those Play with Viewers streamers and even than, I never had more than 20 people at a time, I usually hover at 4-5
Yet again I'm still struggling as a streamer 9 followers I keep trying I post on twitter and still getting nowhere I also have a schedule I've picked a game I'm good at and still nothing
I have always been nerveus using Twitch because it feels so weird to me and being able to stream on the platform i have used since i was a kid would be amazing thanks man
Your videos are awesome!! I made my first tik tok video last week and it gave me seven new viewers. I'm new to streaming (about eight days.) I'm curious if you have any insight on how many viewers UA-cam has over twitch.
Hey, can you make a video on how to set up a live stream or upload a previous stream to UA-cam? A starter video would be amazing. Also what if I’m a beginner and my quality is a bit poor. I am increasing my quality though (I have a capture card).
I’ve been enjoying your content for a long while now and I’ve been trying to use tips you give to try to go and grow. It’s been slow but I just wanna say thanks for what you offer
My problem is YT is still the community. I wholeheartedly agree with all the points in the video, but my person experience as been that my Twitch friends don’t want to watch UA-cam, and the new chatters I get on UA-cam are just weird? Granted, I mostly play Minecraft, so I’m asking for it, but I’ve met chill people on twitch, and freaks or children on YT
Great video! Does anyone think it would be a good or bad idea to just experiment on UA-cam streaming if im already partnered on twitch? I wanted to build my UA-cam up but my content isn’t easy to convert to just plain UA-cam videos.
I dont know, but for me twitch is easier because I have 0 understanding in editing videos. None! I dont even know what to use to edit videos. I think thats a very very big concern. If editing was easy, or at least not difficult to understand, I'd 100% do youtube. All I see is people saying make shorts, and work on different social media platforms like youtube and tictok to grow your channel, but people don't understand youtube and ticktok requires some level of editing that many like me don't have. I even tried youtubing tutorials. Still confusing
Affiliate is easy to achieve to suck you into a system that traps you long term and forces you to grind forever. UA-cam is harder to monetise but is built on long term sustainable content, and pays better revenue cuts.
Streaming while supported on UA-cam, With so much content out there most viewers won't stick around for long. Apart from a few regulars. Which is not bad if can have a good conversation. However video and shorts grow a YT channel more then a stream because you can over edit it.
I’d say your underestimating how many people really enjoy streams on UA-cam as they are rarer and usually viewers are more committed to the creator after watching all their videos, but at the same time I do agree it’s harder to hold an audiences attention, you need to be a better creator. I still think I’d rather use all the extra discovery on UA-cam to build an audience who enjoys my content, and comes back consistently than try do that on twitch. And I’ve done both platforms.
@@StreamScheme Believe you me, When someone says Twitch to me because I always on UA-cam due to the fact it's a all around better platform for content. I end up missing there live streams anyhow.
I think over this past year a lot has changed and I want to focus on platforms that have long term futures for my content. My stream yesterday is a fully packaged VoD anyone can watch forever, even though I had internet issues and lost half my viewers in the middle, I can get thousands of views over the next few months, and that all helps my channel, shorts, videos, and other streams
Hello there!! Love your content! #videoIdea #question I would love to hear what you thing about multi streaming on Twitch UA-cam And TikTok simultaneously this year? Thanks for always having the answers 🤟 or trying to 🤷♂️😁
ive been watching your videos for the past 2 months and its been really helping me! so thank you for the content you provide! Keep up the good work! if i can ask a favor, Could you give me a honest channel review? I think itd be nice to get a vets opinion on it! Also pm me your opinion! Thank Stream Scheme! Love ya man!
Sometimes i have my doubts to continue to stream on youtube, but i think it's because i've been on twitch for so long. But i started to be active on my youtube again in Novemeber, and from 20 subs, 0 watch hours, i'm almost at 100 subs and over 100 watch hours, streaming gaming but mostly art with vtubing 🥲

Holy sh... I had no idea about the Shorts Live Now feature. That's such a powerful discovery tool.
Thanks for these videos Eljay, super informative!
I can vouch! As a community member for years on discord and twitch I had no idea Eljayem was streaming on UA-cam
This might have convinced me to come to UA-cam for all the streams. Honestly that LIVE filter for the search is kind of huge. I wasn't aware of using that. Thanks for the info!
when you get called out for watching on a second monitor. lol! I love your content though!
Thank u for the help.. my twitch is slowly growin and u helps so much!!! Road to 300 followers baby!!
thanks for making this because its really interesting and its making me rethink my ideas for streaming.
is the LIVE highlight on shorts a mobile only thing? just checked a short on a streamer who is live and didn't see anything indicating the youtuber was streaming (and i'm listening to the stream as i type this)
I believe for now it’s mobile only :) but almost all shorts views are mobile based
At first I was like: Of course we need categories. But you changed my mind. UA-cam is doing it differently but certainly good.
Good point ✌🏼
What about people like me, I just got affiliate last year. Is it worth it to break that and stream to both UA-cam and Twitch?
You're welcome to stream over here. It feels like I am the only one ...
I’ve been enjoying your content for a long while now and I’ve been trying to use tips you give to try to go and grow. It’s been slow but I just wanna say thanks for what you offer
I didn’t even finish the video yet but 1:45 😂
Shoutout to +NumbNexus streaming haha
I just wanted to say thank you I never knew you could find live streams that way.
no the second monitor bit killed me >.
It's heaps harder for streamers to make any money on UA-cam unless you are a big creator. Idk seems easier on Twitch but could be wrong
Affiliate is easy to achieve to suck you into a system that traps you long term and forces you to grind forever.
UA-cam is harder to monetise but is built on long term sustainable content, and pays better revenue cuts.
Lazy? I have no artistic skills whatsoever.
I don't get any viewers on my live streams on UA-cam or twitch
Bae at the top of the Minecraft category. Based.
Early squad, eager to watch 🫡
I just made a Affiliate last week... Took me a damn year!
What I don’t like about UA-camlivestreams is the chat.
It looks boring and ugly imo.
I just don’t enjoy the chat of different streamers.
You are really cool
Are you anti Twitch now ElJay?
I know you switched over but do you think it is unwise to be on twitch?
I think over this past year a lot has changed and I want to focus on platforms that have long term futures for my content.
My stream yesterday is a fully packaged VoD anyone can watch forever, even though I had internet issues and lost half my viewers in the middle, I can get thousands of views over the next few months, and that all helps my channel, shorts, videos, and other streams
@@StreamScheme I appreciate you responding and telling me your thoughts!
I see this happening!!
Hello there!! Love your content! #videoIdea #question I would love to hear what you thing about multi streaming on Twitch UA-cam And TikTok simultaneously this year? Thanks for always having the answers 🤟 or trying to 🤷♂️😁
Felt called out a lil bit at the 3:40 mark ngl >.>
Do you think variety streamers stand a chance on UA-cam and in 2023?
I’d watch my video that dropped last night, it’s entirely about that :)
ive been watching your videos for the past 2 months and its been really helping me! so thank you for the content you provide! Keep up the good work! if i can ask a favor, Could you give me a honest channel review? I think itd be nice to get a vets opinion on it! Also pm me your opinion! Thank Stream Scheme! Love ya man!
This makes me cream for once.... I am now considering the following
balls *hello*
water
🤘
Sometimes i have my doubts to continue to stream on youtube, but i think it's because i've been on twitch for so long.
But i started to be active on my youtube again in Novemeber, and from 20 subs, 0 watch hours, i'm almost at 100 subs and over 100 watch hours, streaming gaming but mostly art with vtubing 🥲
