I personally don’t think that your video is to long. It shows an actual step by step process of your project. I like the video just like it is. Don’t shorten them.
It's valuable BECAUSE it's not flashy, in my opinion. Whenever a video is flashy I start wondering what shortcomings they're trying to distract me from. This is perfect!
I have literally watched thousands of woodworking videos and often, I get disappointed by the kind of tools and materials they use because they were all beyond my imagination. Some were just too exotic and most were things, most cannot afford...But you my friend, has shown me something to inspire again. You are doing a wonderful work. Thank you.
The air velocity at the 3 inch pipe being 33 m/s gives 3x3x33 is about 300 “units” of airflow. At the 4inch pipe it was 27m/s, giving 4x4x27 is about 430 of those same units. So even though the velocity is higher it forms a serious constriction on the airflow.
Hi Jhon, what a brilliant 3 series of dust collection videos! Amazing. Could supply you supply sizes (flanges )for your cyclone video (2nd video) in particular how you drew out your cone. Watching from Scotland 🏴 👋 Many thanks.
Yes.. A strong motor and a good impeller, reducing the intake at the Cyclone should surely increase air speed, which keeps the dust/chips moving.. The 1hp Motor with 2800RPMs must be a good strong motor. I noticed in that video, when you put the plywood over the impeller intake, there did not seem to be much motor slow down or drag.. I was wondering how much space/tolerance you had in your build of your impeller to increase the Static pressure, but, you really could not have made it much tighter than you did.. Excellent job... I will likely try to duplicate this some time in the future when I move into a larger shop.. Thank you.
Congratulations on the excellent work. Thanks for sharing. I will just build the top part of your project. It would be possible to provide the necessary measurements for my construction to look like yours. Thank you very much.
Hi hi John, I made a change from traditional dust collector to cyclone conversion, however I am having a problem with the suction. The impellers work fine but they suck from the side extraction pipe as well as the bottom of the cone so the saw dust never goes down to the drum. Any idea of what I'm doing wrong?
Velocity increase can only happen when the cross section is smaller. (For the same blower) this has limitations up to a point when you reach max velocity. A cyclone adds resistance (drag) which is normal. Every obstacle in the flow causes drag. It just cannot happen that for the same diameter with added drag you get higher fpm. This means, that either your measure method is not consistent, or the diameter has changed.
Excelente proyecto muy ilustrativo e interesante Tengo una pregunta ¿Será que se pueden recojer particulan micrómetricas como harina o maizena? Saludos y estaré muy agradecido si alguien aclara mi duda gracias
Because like you see in video I use inlet for impeller is 4" and inlet for cyclone is 3", that mean my pipping installation is using 3", my impeller if you see in part 1 impeller build I use 33cm impeller diameters and 5 cm width of the blade, that's the most suitable for my 1hp motor
@Alessandro Suppini with 6 fins I think 4" is the best velocity you will get if you reduce 1" from that 4" for the inlet cyclone, 6fin you will get loud noise and lower air velocity
Hello friend, a good hug from Santiago de Chile, I greet you. Would you be so kind as to give me the measures of the cyclone to make one of the same measure that you have.??? Thank you very much. I appreciate your kind friendship. Your work is very good. I appreciate it.

It's not a flashy video, but it's real. You are making practical items with an elevated mathematical explanation. Great content sir, thank you.

Great project. Well narrated too.
you're doing a great job! It's inspiring (and embarrassing ) to see a craftsman working with his own, hand made tools! Kudos to you!

Mantap bang.. Saja juga butuh mesin ini.. Untuk hisap debu amplasan cangkang kerang..
keren banget uyy, nunggu video test nya
Great workmanship, great narration!
Very nice! But a little disappointed to NOT see a real test with saw dust at the end of video. We can't wait 😉
Nice work. That should work wonders for all your machines.
Berkelas, gak sabar nunggu full project nya jadi
makasih banyak mas yoyok🤗

Vacuums and fans actually SPEED UP when you restrict air flow since there is less air resistance. Just try with you own vacuum
Consider myself inspired!
Tanks ,good for ide.
Very nice work 😁
That is awesome Jhon, great build videos!

Makasih mas🙏
Great Video! nice work
can you please share the measurements q plan?
Siap2 bikin dust collector ni 😁😁
Jooss semangat masee
Nice job! How did you transfer the drawing for the inlet onto the side of the top hat
Also, how did you decide the rotation
I use the pipe leftover of cut for the template, and the rotation I just follow the rotation of the impeller
Where does the exhaust air go? Did you had any filter behind that during you measure the air velocity of the cyclone inlet.
Wuih mantaaap
But is it like a vacuum or shop vac - high pressure / low volume? So it may be blowing harder but not necessary picking up more dust??
Jhon, amazing manufacturing and precise design, very well done, looking forward to seeing the testing!!!
Thank you 👍

yes, actually if you see the video you will find that my inlet diameters between impeller and cyclone are different, btw thank you.

Amazing video, could the unit be installed with a wood housing? )
Of course it can be mounted on wooden frame
Great build and fantastic gain in air velocity! 👍
Do you think that using 5” hose instead of 4” would improve air suction even further?
It depend on you impeller size sir?
