- A game of turning roulette left me with a soaking wet piece of eastern red cedar. A few challenges along the way leaves us with a truly unique piece.

Interesting that you have the clock visible to have some sort of elapsed time. Great job.. I love the look.
Thank you 🙏
I love working with cedar, and the smell is nice too. Beautiful 👌👍
I love red cedar but it can be very temperamental.
I bet the shop smells wonderful
Beautiful job ! REALLY DIFFERENT
Thank you! 😊
I really like it, Todd. The shape plus the natural edge make it look like a flower. I like the base, too.
Bill
Thank you 😊
@@dukaheritage9445 That is so cool the way you did that. Keep up the good work and stay safe.😊
Looks real pretty. I like it. From Ohio.
Thank you 😊
Great job. Enhancing the crack with inlay was perfect. You would do well in making those thin walled flowers.
Thank you so much my friend.
Wow it turned out better that I thought it would so great job thanks
Thank you ✌️
Tooling video - yes 👍
Awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you 🙏
Stunning piece! Great work!
Thank you very much!
Beautiful work. I turn a lot of cedar. Mostly because it’s readily available. I live in east Texas. I’m using wipe on polyurethane. I’m really pleased with it.
Thank you, cedar can be a lot of fun. I have a pile of this stuff, you’re making me think about digging back into it ✌️
I think a love feed tooling talk would be killer. Hopefully if you do it I will be able to watch.
Great job
Looks awesome. Good job
Beautiful turning.
Thank you 🙂
Well done. I am currently turning a freshly cut piece of Cedar into a Vase. It will be on my lathe for weeks. The reason is, as it dries and splits, I am filling the splits with Resin and glitter. I hope I can save it as the colours in the wood are beautiful.
Thank you 🙏 I wish you the best with your project ✌️
Good looking piece and I bet that the shop smelled good after the turning of that cedar log
Thank you 😊
Pertunjukan yang bagus kawan
Thank you so much 🙏
Love the shape. My favorite to work is cedar.
Got to check my drying box to see whats available. Beautiful piece.
Thank you!
Gorgeous!
Thanks ✌️
Very impressive Todd!👍
Thank you my friend ✌️
That is so beautiful piece yo
Thank you 🙏
Beautiful piece. I love the beauty of Cedar. That copper inlay came out beautiful! YES, do a live stream.
Thank you 🙏
Beautiful job inspired me to try it
Thank you 🙏 You can do it!
Love it
Thank you 😊
Stunning piece!! Reminds me a little of Yamabiko's work. I bet that smelled amazing to turn too.
Thank you very much!
Looks great 👍
Thank you 😊
I like it,looks good
Maybe someday I can make something like that too? It's so cool.👍👍
Of course you can 😊✌️ thank you
That is the way to persevere throughout the process. Beautiful piece
Thank you very much!
Nice save!!! Nice turning!! End turnings are are always tough; particularly deep hollowing cuts without a steady rest. You must have a light touch to keep it from flying off the lathe.
Next time, try some Milliput to fill in the large cracks. It comes in Standard (Yellow/Grey), Terracotta, Silver Grey, Black and Superfine White. I use mostly Terracotta and black.
Thank you, and thanks for the recommendation ✌️
I love the natural edge at the top. Great fix of the crack. Just lovely kind of wood. It makes such a beautiful shading to it all. Love it! 😸
Thank you 🙏
I like it. Nice shape and color. Clever way to repair the cracks. First time see your videos - I will be back.
I will say, if had a piece of cedar with that much white sapwood on the outside, I may have been tempted to keep the outside all white - keeping the red interior as a surprise with some shape of a lidded turning.
Thank you so much. I do have quite a bit of this material, I will keep your idea in mind for sure 🙂✌️
It's beautiful and you did an amazing job turning it also!!
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
Cedar just begs to be turned end grain with a natural edge! I was pretty nervous when you were out there on that thin rim, but it held together. Great call on the copper crack repair...looks great! Just a beautiful piece overall.
Thanks sooo much 😊
Good work brother. I snuck a peek at it yesterday 👀👀👀. Love you homie ❤️
Thanks brother ✌️
Another awesome piece! The colors aew stunning. The copper really works.
Thank you so much ✌️
Beautiful artistry as always
Thank you so much 😊
Turned out so well, I enjoyed seeing the reloading scoop used to add your Copper
Nice recovery on the crack. I'll have to try the copper on my next disaster, I usually use fine coffee grounds.
Really like this piece. Well done. The split filled with copper is a fine solution. Great job.
Thank you so much 😊
Parabéns amigo bela peça 🇧🇷
Thank you 😊
It turned out amazing! Great save... looks awesome with the natural colours, and the copper. Great video 😁💙
Thank you 😊
That is one beautiful vase. Great shape and you added to the natural beauty with the copper inlay. Great work.
In my top 5, for sure. So beautiful.
Thanks ✌️
A free style beauty. Great turn my friend. Looks like a flower from the top. I really love it.
Thank you ✌️

Looks like a flower cedar I’m sure smells amazing.

That bowl looks awesome! Thank you for sharing the video!
Thank you 🙏
Beautiful piece Todd. Love red cedar.
Many thanks!
Very nice work beautiful I'm going to try this hope it works for me also
Very nice looking piece. I have turned tons of it in the past 20 years. Love working with it. Would like to pass on some very friendly advice. Face shield and dust mask when turning and sanding. Please 🙏🏻.
Thank you ✌️ I have a shield but I hate it lol I always wear safety squints, n I usually have a mico respirator on for sanding. 😊 cedar will mess u up for awhile sanding without a mask.
You never cease to amaze us!! Turned a wicked nasty crack into a thing of beauty!!
Thank you ✌️
Nice one Buddy
Thanks so much ✌️
Really nice piece buddy, enjoying your channel, and I'm glad you're back keeping us entertained. Look forward to the next 1. Thanks 😊
Thank you 😊
Fantastic work as always Todd my friend. Love watching how you overcome any issues that arise.
Keep the great content coming. And as for a live stream, I'm always up for the chance to chat in real time with you.
Thanks so much my friend ✌️
I don't think the form is odd I think it is great and I like how you didn't give up and how you fixed the problem. Great piece
Thank you 🙏
Krásné
🙏 thank you
❤❤❤it
Thank you 🙏
Sweeeeeet
Great, looking peace brother I also love the look of red cedar and the live edge. Nice touch.
I understand you make face plates I’d like to get one with a reverse thread, 8 TPI so I can turn on the outboard side of my lathe let me know if that’s possible
Thanks
Thank you ✌️ and thanks for your suggestion with tooling, I’ll put that into consideration for a batch run. This is why I’d lake to have a live stream and talk with you guys about what y’all are looking for ✌️👍
That came out really nice. I love the copper inlay.
One question : is that real copper powder, or copper colored mica? The end result looks like real copper.
Beautiful Dude!
Thank you friend, real copper powder, i ground it on the belt grinder 🙂
Awesome stuff man, really beautiful work. Did you just sand down some copper tubing that you had and collect the dust? Thanks for sharing! ✌️❤️🍻🖖
Yes and yes 🙂 thank you my friend ✌️
What do you think about turning a bucket? Just a simple pail.
Definitely doable
Very spectacular. Shame about that crack.
Beautiful! When I tried making copper powder I ended up with sandpaper grit mixed with the copper. I used 60 grit paper. Any suggestions? Did you use a special sandpaper?
Soooo sorry for the late reply, this one got lost down the list. I use my belt grinder/ sharpener to cut the powder, I think the belts are the difference, the abrasive is ceramic and I don’t really get much grit or unwanted debris in the mix. Hope this helps
Copper makes it better
Thank you, im glad you think so ✌️
Beautiful piece ... but I was a little distracted trying to figure out what that thing on the floor behind you is, it sure looked like a big snake coiled around a tree branch!
Hehe, that’s a vine strangling itself. I have a few ideas for that piece ;)
Very nice, Sir. Do you have a favourite wood to work with? Interested.
Thank you. I think my favorite to turn would have to be redwood. Cuts like butter, always loaded with beauty, but hard to get. ✌️
What happened to the steady rest you made a couple of years ago?
Hey there my friend, the old steady was built for a 12” swing, the new machine has a 22” swing in its smallest configuration. Im actually working on a production run of steady rests that will be a modular solution for many different machines.
@@dukaheritage9445 also, the new machine is a beast. :)
I love the color of cedar and the aroma but the aromatic resins can be very irritating to breathe for me so i always wear my Trend Air Pro power filter safety visor system ,and am planing to build a dust eductor system
You can reduce some of the wobble by reducing how much you have the tail stock extended
Ifind cedar shavings and dust irritating to my skin , so I wear either a long sleeve smock or a nylon wind breaker with elastic cuffs and nalgene gloves
Neat idea to use your Lee powder dipper to pour copper filings in the cracks
I wear a welders skull cap under my helmet , and wear bifocal safety glasses at all times even under my full face respirator , face shield or Trend
An industrial arts professor of a basic wood production class that I took in 1978 told us students to always wear eye safrty in wood shop because , unlike metal shavings , that can be removed from eyes in ER using a magnet , wood splinters require surgery . And to always wear respiratory protection
Keep safe and happy turning
Beautiful
Thank you 😊
