Woodturning - This Log Had Some Hidden Surprises!

- In this video I make two snowmen out of Spalted Silver Birch.
When I was looking for a piece of wood for this project I came across this Silver Birch that I had cut about 2 years ago. I was expecting some pretty character as Birch always looks golden and creamy, however, the Spalting lines were superb and so much better than I could have expected. The long black lines are perfectly highlighted by the white interior and the creamy colour of the untouched birch.
The Hats of the Snowmen are Yew from my garden which never disappoints. All the pieces were sanded to 1200 grit and finished with Sanding sealer and wood wax.
Is this the best Spalting you've ever seen? Let me know what you think.

Disclaimer:
My videos are for entertainment purposes only. Some of my techniques might not be the "best" or safest, so when using any tool or machinery always read and understand safety/manufacturers guidelines first.
And Yes, I'm aware that wearing gloves while woodturning is considered an unsafe practice. The gloves I wear are tight-fitting and don’t have any loose threads. I wear them for the protection of my skin. This is a risk that I am willing to take, however I am still very conscious of the potential danger and I do not touch any spinning parts of the lathe. DO NOT copy my actions if you feel unsafe doing so.

You’re right that log had some wonderful surprises in it. Beautiful work as usual.
Fantastic wood 😮 beautiful spalting and everyone loves a snowman ⛄ Happy New Year Harry, hope you get some snow! ❄ 😀
Amazing!!!! Looks like a tiger striped snow man!! Too cool!!!
You sawed off most of the bark inclusion at the beginning only to shave even more off with the woodturning process itself. They turned out great though! An odd couple out for a stroll, even the knots and inclusions added character to them! Absolutely stunning pieces Harry! You really found the characters in the grain this time! 😁👍👍
Absolutely fantastic !! Good workmanship, Great wood ! Thanks for sharing.. Howdy from Arizona.
Hi Harry the spalting on the log and orange core inside this log is beautiful, the colouring is wonderful. This is a magnificent and unique piece you've turned you are so talented and a masterwoodturner. Thank you for such a marvellous piece. Amansa xx

Fantastic skill, brilliant.
Love these!! The spalting is spectacular! Another beautiful turning ❤❤ thanks for sharing your talent, love watching your videos! Happy yule and new years to you and yours!!
I have cheated. I bought a 6 inch chainsaw so when I need to do cuts like that, I could have a piece right on my lathe and do it really easy. I have nerve damage in my shoulders and down my back so trying to saw it like you’re doing hurts. But that little 6 inches chainsaw is fabulous. Why do you rub the shavings against the project before the cloth? The spalted wood is gorgeous and using a contrasting wood for the snowmen has made these really adorable. Great job!!
Wow! The zone lines that the spalting created are absolutely gorgeous! Cool project, Harry. TFS (Thank For Sharing...) V
